Stop It, She’s Remarrying (Fia and Conrad)

Chapter 1236

Chapter 1236

Irene spoke to her mother softly. "Mommy, please don't be angry. Adrian knows that you don't like Uncle Maxwell so he went to open the door for you."

Fia gave her a warm smile, thinking that the boy was probably getting the door because he liked Conrad, not because he wanted to help his mother avoid him. When the door was opened, Adrian was disappointed when he saw who was standing outside the door.

"What's wrong, little Adrian? Don't you like seeing me?" Sally said as she took out a gift box and handed it to the boy, imitating Eileen's method in pleasing the kids.

"No! I don't want it!" Adrian pushed her hand away. "Mommy will get mad at me if I take it."

Sally extended her gift awkwardly and said, "But this is my gift to you."

"No, I don't want it. Yesterday, Aunt Eileen got me and Irene in big trouble! We were scolded by Mommy because of her gift." Adrian pouted while glancing at Sally, "Were you the one who pressed on the doorbell?"

"Yes, it was me. I want to meet your mother to talk about something."

Adrian pulled a long face and said, "Okay, I'll go get Mommy."

"Okay." Sally pulled back her leg that was almost stepping through the door. It was impolite to step into another's home without the host's permission.

"Mommy, that doctor auntie is looking for you."

Adrian sat back on his chair and continued having lunch dejectedly.

Fia walked to the entrance to meet Sally after making sure Adrian was already seated.

"Is there something you needed, Doctor Sally?"

"Well, there's something I'd like to talk about." Sally peered into the apartment and asked, "I noticed your son is in a bad mood. Is he alright?"

"He's fine." Fia took a long look at Sally. She had gotten skinnier over the five years.

"Have you had lunch?"

"Not yet. I'll be having lunch when I get back to the hospital later. I'm here to warn you about Mr. Maxwell."

Sally paused before saying earnestly, "He's indeed a handsome man. He is also rich and influential. However, he's a very heartless, horrible man. He once had a kind-hearted, wonderful wife but he never treasured her nor protected her. This made her suffer a great deal... She got injured and..."

"Yes, I heard about her from Ms. Reid." Fia interjected Sally's words halfway because Sally looked so saddened and woeful when talking about the past.

Sally gave a bitter smile and said, "Then, Mr. Maxwell lost his memories. Before you appeared, he and the heiress of the Parker Group were really close. The whole business world had been saying that they were a match made in heaven."

Fia leaned against the door and said, "Sure. But I'm not interested in all those stories."

"Pardon me if I talk too much. But I feel that you should learn more about what kind of man Conrad Maxwell is. Please do not be fooled by him." Sally said earnestly, "I've never agreed with Eileen's idea of having you seducing that man." Fía blinked her eyes and asked, "Why?""

"I believe in karma. If you seduce him with an ulterior motive, it'll hurt you too in the end. I don't want to get an innocent outsider like yourself involved in this whole ordeal," Sally said.

Fia looked at her intently and asked, "But you all said I look like Fia Lawson. Don't you want me to help avenge your friend?"

"I've always wanted him to suffer for what he did to Fia. But this doesn't mean we have to rope in innocent people into the mix!" Sally sighed. "Please forgive Eileen. She's been grieving for Fia for five years. She hasn't had it easy since the day Fia died."

"It's alright, I understand." Fia stood up straight and said, "Perhaps you could come in and have a bite first?"

"It's okay. I need to return to the hospital." Sally turned and prepared to leave.

Fia suddenly recalled something. So, she called out to her. "Were you delivering medicine for Conrad Maxwell?"

"Yes, my brother asked me to deliver them to him."

"I see."

Seeing Sally off, Fia stood at the door and stared at the floor for several seconds. Conrad's body could not handle anymore drugs. She had specifically warned Silas about it but why did he not stop Conrad? When she returned to the table, Fia had already lost her appetite while her children had finished their meals. So, she cleaned the table and washed the dishes.

As she was washing the dishes, she heard a loud thud from above.

Thinking about Conrad's condition, Fia felt an intense anxiety burning her from her insides.

"Mommy, where are you going?" Adrian and Irene asked curiously.

Fia regained her composure when she heard her children's voice, and realized that she had dashed to the entrance with her apron still on.

She had wanted to rush upstairs to check up on Conrad.

"I... I'm heading out for a bit. I'll be back soon."

The children stared at her and asked, "But where are you going? Aren't you going to bring us along?"

Thinking about it, Fia also worried that something might happen to her children if they were left alone at home without supervision. These two little rascals had always known how to come up with various mischievous schemes.

"Sure, let's go together." She took off the apron and led her children upstairs hand-in-hand.

The children looked at one another joyfully. Mommy was taking them to see Uncle Maxwell! Hooray! This was such a huge step forward in helping them reconcile!
