Chapter 1505 On Guard
"Elder... is she dead?"
"Is she even human?"
"How did she fall from the sky?"
"Everyone, be quiet. Don't let the guardian find out. Hide her well."
Lisa twitched her fingertips, feeling the chatter around her quiet down as she pondered. Where am I?
But she couldn't open her eyes. She tried to move and struggled to get up, but she couldn't budge at all.
Lisa was puzzled. This can't be. No matter how severely injured I am, I should be able to sit up as long as I'm awake.
At this moment, she couldn't see that she was wrapped up in white bandages; even her eyes were wrapped up several times like a mummy.
Finally, the voices around her started again, "Elder, aren't we suffocating her by binding her like this?"
Another elderly voice replied, "Nonsense. Does she look like she'll die?"
Lisa finally understood that she was bound.
"Who... are you guys?" she managed to utter. Her voice was low and muffled because her mouth was also wrapped in bandages.
Fortune jumped up in surprise. "Elder! She spoke! She can speak!"
Lisa was speechless at his response. You're the one who can't speak!
The elderly voice asked her, "We are the McCarthy family from the Nether's witch clan. We found you unconscious and severely injured in the grassland and brought you back. Who are you?" Lisa stiffened as she was on high alert.
Witch clan? And their last name is McCarthy?!
The only McCarthy witch clan she knew was the 'family' who had buried her as an undead for several years when she was still in the Human Realm.
Lisa thought she had fallen into their hands again. She had heard over the years that the witch clan who had buried her had ceased to exist and disappeared from the world. How did she end up here?
Seeing Lisa's silent and resistant stance, Logan reassured her, "Don't worry, we're not bad people. If you don't want to talk, that's fine.
"But you can't wander around. If I'm not mistaken, you're not originally from the Nether. If the guardian finds you, he'll kill you."
Lisa remained silent. She didn't know about the Nether, let alone that it was where the original witch clan had gone after disappearing.
The only thing she understood was that there was a guardian who would kill outsiders. For now, she was safe. Otherwise, they could have killed her while she was unconscious.
She didn't know that Lilly had been here before, and Logan and the others had heard Lilly mention her name. Due to her cautiousness, she missed the chance to know them.
Lisa lay on the bed, listening to the fading chattering voices. Perhaps she was hidden in a deep place, so she could only hear some indistinct voices and was unable to make out what they were saying. After lying there for who knows how long, she suddenly smelled a familiar scent.
Spicy fondue?!
It was the familiar smell that she and Anthony often encountered when they visited similar fondue shops during their travels.
So, Lisa quickly deduced that she was still in the Human Realm, in a place called the Nether. She had to contact Anthony as soon as possible. He must be worried sick.
It was almost Christmas, and she wondered how worried her family would be. So, Lisa tried to get up again as she thought of that. Finally, she sprang up and stood up.
Fortune was carrying a bowl of food, intending to bring her something to eat. But he saw Lisa spring up from the bed. It frightened him into shouting, "Shoot! She's become a zombie!" Logan quickly came in, only to see Lisa flailing her arms, trying to tear off the white bandages on her face that quickly turned red with blood.
"Stop moving!" He sighed, "If you keep this up, even your strong body won't be able to withstand this."
Lisa told him, "I need to make a phone call!"
He was puzzled. "What phone call-"
She interrupted him, saying, "I need to call Anthony... Don't bother. I'll leave on my own!"
Logan didn't understand what she was saying as he stepped forward and said, "Let me help you gain some clarity. Don't move."
Lisa was on high alert, and soon, an old man appeared in front of her, who was merely trying to help her gain some clarity. She was confused about his intentions. "Let me go," she said coldly. Fortune couldn't help but say, "If you go out like this, you'll die soon!"
There are man-eating demonic beasts outside.
However, Lisa remained unmoved. "That's none of your concern."
Lucky and the others also entered and said, "We're just trying to help you."
Lisa continued to be cold. "I don't need it."
Then, Duncan questioned her, "Why are you so ungrateful?"
To which she replied coldly, "There's no such thing as a free lunch!"
The youngest, Fortune, retorted, "Then you can leave! Our good intentions are wasted on you! You make it seem like we're obligated to help you!"
Lisa replied with a hum.
Fortune almost choked with rage. "I've never seen anyone like her. We helped her, and she acts as if we're out to harm her!"
Seeing Lisa's firm stance, Logan had no choice.
They couldn't exactly knock her out and force her to stay. She was so badly injured that they wouldn't even know where to hit her.
"I'll see you off then." Logan packed up his things. "Let's go!"
Fortune protested angrily, "Elder, we shouldn't bother! Let her find her own way out. It would serve her right if the guardian found and killed her!"
Lisa remained silent as she hopped toward the exit.
Logan couldn't bear the sight of her as he called her back and rebandaged her wounds. "You're all bandaged up because you're badly injured. I'll apply some medicine for you. These are the best we have. Whether you recover or not is up to fate."
Lisa remained silent. Once she was bandaged up, she walked out. Seeing her leave without a hint of reluctance, Fortune got angry again.
"Go! Just leave! You didn't even say thank you. If we help you anymore, I'll change my name!"
Lisa paused before finally turning around to say, "Thank you."
Fortune snorted and turned away.
After a brief moment of hesitation, she spoke up, "I'm Lisa McCarthy. Thank you for saving me."
Fortune turned back abruptly with an incredulous expression.
Wait. Lisa McCarthy? Lilly's aunt is also named Lisa McCarthy!
"Hold on..." Without a second thought, he chased after her.
