Chapter The Sea Maiden

The wind slid like a lover’s caress over her form, cradling it, adoring its curves before leaving. Eyes, the same turquoise as the waters in front of her sparkled in the sun.

She stared into the great expanse of ocean water as waves lapped at her bare feet. The sand squished beneath her weight. She giggled as small fish nibbled on her toes all the while a hand patted her engorged stomach.

“One day this world shall be ours,” she whispered.

It was almost time for the child to be born. She could feel it as surely as she felt the pulse in the waters before her. Like her ancestors, she would give birth in the same water which tickled her toes. She had to or else risk her baby dying.

Stretching her limbs as far as her stomach allowed, she waded into the cool waters, and let the waves buffer her and her child. She could feel the ocean’s pull at her like a song of a siren.

Then she felt her body was ready.

She bowed her head and screamed as pulsing pain wracked her spine. She had lost her water that she was sure of, as she felt the trickling of warm water gush down her legs.

She was surrounded by the essence of the ocean, rich turquoise energy which had risen from the waves and had begun to build upon itself like the layers of a cake, the form of a woman. A familiar woman, one she had known for only an instance in her life.

“Mother,” she gasped.

All around her women materialized before her eyes. They who had become the essence of the sea corralled against her, sang to her as she screamed again, and brought forth a new life.

A new Lannister to the world. The babe was silent watching the world with wary brown eyes. It screamed once then more silence as if it knew of the magical happenings surrounding his birth.

She smiled as the sea swirled around the babe and became a blanket. Her mother and the women smiled.

The curse would be broken. Even if she would never see her son grow, he would not lose his life to the sea as he was the first male in over three centuries.

The sea’s essence slowly swept through her blood and soul, and an urge she could not deny. It was time.

She hugged her babe to her chest tears lingering in her eyes. It was the curse of the Lannister women. They could bear a child but never could they touch her until it was her turn to become a part of the ocean. Now as the only male scion, her little boy would break the curse.

She placed her son on the calm waters and watched him as they carried him far from her. Tears that were still falling began to glow the same color as the essence. She felt it as her body slowly dissolved into water and was remade with the essence as the core of her being.

Opening new eyes, everything took on a new meaning. She felt the touch of her mother once more and could now see her and every other woman perfectly as if the mist had lifted.

“Welcome home Moira,” she said leading her deeper into the sea.

She was finally free to be who she was.

A Maiden of the Sea.
