Chapter 1173 The Terrible Soup
Sydney stopped stirring the soup and turned to look at Julien.
Julien compressed his lips for a while before speaking in a deep voice, "No."
"Then why are you just staring at it without drinking?" The Old Madam immediately became unhappy.
Julien asked with a helpless expression, "Grandma, do you think this soup is drinkable?" He pointed to the bowl in front of him.
The Old Madam asked with confusion, "This soup was specially made for you. Why can't you drink it?"
Julien took a deep breath. "If it was specially made for me, then why is my soup different from Leaf's?"
"Yes, Grandma," Sydney nodded in agreement. "Mine looks like chicken soup, but his... I can't tell what it is. It just feels strange. Why didn't you give us the same soup?"
Just judging by the smell alone, Sydney knew it must taste terrible. And the color looked extremely peculiar as well.
She couldn't understand why the Old Madam would make such a strange soup.
'Does it really have any health benefits?' she wondered.
Julien was moved when he heard Sydney speaking up for him. She truly embodied the role of a supportive wife, constantly considering his well-being, which was in stark contrast to the Old Madam... Looking at the soup in his bowl, Julien felt his scalp go numb. He deeply suspected that the Old Madam wasn't trying to nourish him but rather trying to poison him.
Seeing the confusion and bewilderment in their eyes, the Old Madam sighed, "What are you two thinking? The reason why I didn't give you the same soup is because the nourishing effects are different. Drinking chicken soup is highly beneficial for women, particularly when they experience low vitality and fatigue. However, as a grown man, why would you consider having chicken soup?" While saying this, the Old Madam gave Julien a disdainful look.
Julien pursed his lips. "Whether it's chicken soup or not doesn't matter. I just want to know what kind of soup this is. Could it be the water used to clean the pot after boiling chicken soup?"
Sydney spat out a mouthful of chicken soup directly, followed by a severe cough that made her face turn red and tears well up in her eyes.
"Oh, what's wrong?" The Old Madam became anxious and stopped drinking her tea. She was about to get up to check on Sydney's condition.
But Felicia was more concerned about the Old Madam's condition. As she attempted to rise, Felicia gently pushed her back down. "Madam, please don't get agitated. Just sit here, I'll go check on her." With that, she walked towards Sydney.
Julien was also worried about Sydney. When she started coughing, he immediately stood up and half-embraced her, gently patting her back to help her catch her breath.
After a while, with Julien's help, Sydney's breathing gradually calmed down and she felt much better.
At this moment, Felicia brought something over. "Ms. Raines, please eat this."
"What is this?" Sydney came out of Julien's embrace, sat up straight, and looked at Felicia.
Since she had coughed so hard just now, her voice was hoarse, sounding pitiful.
Felicia looked at her with concern and replied, "This is medicine. It's very effective for sudden coughs. You must have felt uncomfortable in your lungs after coughing so hard just now. Eating this will make you feel better quickly."
Upon hearing Felicia's words, Sydney immediately smiled. "Thank you so much, Felicia. I just happened to need this."
"Then eat it quickly." Felicia smiled and urged her.
Sydney nodded and took the medicine from Felicia's hand, tilting her head back and swallowing it.
Julien attentively handed her a glass of water.
Sydney glared at him but still took the glass from him and drank the water along with the medicine.
Julien touched his nose and guiltily looked away. He knew why she had choked just now. So, he was definitely feeling guilty.
The Old Madam naturally noticed Julien's guilty look and snorted disdainfully, "You deserved it! How could you even compare the soup to dishwashing water? It's astonishing that you came up with such an idea. Look, Syd got choked because of you."
Sydney nodded repeatedly. "Exactly, how did you come up with it?"
She was overwhelmed with shock upon hearing his words at that time.
She had never thought about this aspect before, but now, because of his words, she felt that his bowl of tonic soup seemed quite similar to dishwashing water.
Sydney covered her forehead and couldn't help bursting out laughing.
Julien looked at her and then at the Old Madam. "Take a look for yourself. Doesn't it look like dishwashing water?"
"Not at all." The Old Madam frowned unhappily. "This is specially prepared by Felicia, not dishwashing water. Do you think the ingredients for this bowl of tonic soup are simple?"
"Oh?" Julien raised an eyebrow. "Then tell me, what exactly did she use to make this tonic soup, and why does it have a strange smell?"
"Well, of course..." Before Felicia could finish her sentence, the Old Madam lightly tugged on her pants under the table, interrupting her.
Felicia immediately realized something, her eyes darted around, and she smiled, "It's just simple nourishing ingredients, but with a little bit of offal. Offal has high nutritional value, which is good for men." "Felicia is right. Alright, drink it quickly and stop talking so much." The Old Madam urged impatiently, frowning.
It seemed that if he didn't drink it soon, she would just pour it down his throat.
Sydney looked at Julien and tugged at his sleeve. "Why don't you just drink it? Although it smells strange and probably doesn't taste good, it definitely isn't dishwashing water. After all, you are the Old Madam's grandson, and she wouldn't do that to you."
"Ms. Raines is right. Mr. Julien, please drink it quickly. It's really good for you." Felicia also nodded and persuaded him.
The Old Madam didn't say anything, just stared at Julien fixedly.
Under the gaze of them, Julien finally compromised. He frowned, and picked up the bowl in front of him. After taking a slight breath, he closed his eyes, and took a sip.
He knew the Old Madam must have prepared it with good intentions.
So no matter what this soup was made of, he must take a sip.
While Julien was drinking the soup, everyone present stared at him.
Unlike the relief of the Old Madam and Felicia, Sydney was worried.
To be honest, she was really concerned that Julien would have problems after drinking this unidentified liquid.
Hopefully, she was just overthinking.
Sydney tightened her grip on the spoon in her hand, feeling uneasy.
Just as she was contemplating these thoughts, she was abruptly interrupted by the sound of Julien spitting out his soup.
The movement startled Sydney.
"What's wrong?" Sydney quickly checked on his condition.
Julien leaned to the side, one hand clutching his throat, the other supporting the table, continuously retching. His face turned red and he looked very uncomfortable. Sydney even saw that his hand gripping the table tightened, and the veins on the back of his hand bulged.
It was evident how much he was suffering at the moment.
Not only Sydney, but the Old Madam and Felicia were also shocked by Julien's reaction.
"Mr. Julien, are you okay?" Felicia also went over to inquire.
Although the Old Madam didn't speak, her eyes were filled with worry.
After all, he was her eldest grandson. How could she not be worried?
Julien was in such discomfort that he couldn't answer their questions at all.
Seeing him in such pain, Sydney felt sorry for him and stood up to pat his back, just like how he had patted her earlier.
The Old Madam and Felicia involuntarily looked at each other.
"Madam, did we make a mistake?" Felicia asked with some regret.
