Chapter 1168 Won't Let Anyone Mistreat You
Velma had a proud look on her chubby face. "I've learned a thing or two over the years, such as reading others."
"Not bad! Keep it up." Old Madam finally smiled.
Her approval touched Velma.
"For so many years, this is the first time you've ever praised me."
She was almost moved to tears.
When Old Madam saw that, her satisfaction dissipated and turned back to disdain. "How can I praise you for all the stupid things you did in the past? Alright, stop crying. You look ugly when you cry." Velma sniffled and quickly stopped crying.
Old Madam continued, "Do you know why Julien is so angry with the McDaniel family this time? He knew that they reaped many benefits in his name and caused a lot of trouble, but he said nothing because Mr. McDaniel was his mentor. However, the McDaniel family merely created a scandal, which completely angered Julien. He decided to end his relationship with them. Can you guess why?"
"To seek justice for Sydney," Velma blurted out with disdain.
Old Madam nodded. "That's one of the reasons. What really angers him is that they bullied his beloved woman and tried to drive a wedge between them. They crossed the line. To Julien, Syd is a treasure that he has taken great pains to get back, but they tried to drive her away. Their actions irritated him and prompted him to cut off all ties with them. As Julien's stepmother, you were supposed to stand on Julien and Sydney's side, but you chose to help the McDaniel family plead their case. What do you think Julien would do to you?"
She darted a cold look at Velma.
Velma's face instantly turned ashen.
'What would Julien do to me?'
She had no idea.
Such a thing had never happened before.
But a voice in her mind told her that it wouldn't be good.
Growing anxious, she quickly grabbed Old Madam's sleeve and pleaded. "I see it now. I didn't realize it was such a serious matter. I just... Please, don't tell him about this, or I will be doomed." She started to cry again and shed tears of fear.
She indeed looked ugly when she cried.
Unable to bear the scene, Old Madam looked away once again. "Alright, stop crying. I never said I would tell Julien."
Velma was relieved and exclaimed, "Really? Ha-ha, you are the best. I'm so happy."
Old Madam felt helpless about the sudden change in her mood. "I decided not to tell him for the sake of your care for him. If you had treated him poorly, I wouldn't have let you go, no matter how much Alexander liked you."
"Thank you." As Alexander was mentioned, Velma went back to normal and thanked her more sincerely.
Old Madam waved her hand. "Don't be blinded by small gains again. Luckily, you didn't go straight to Julien, or else you would be in great trouble. Remember, do not interfere in anything about Julien and Syd. You might only make things worse and make them resent you. Do you understand?"
Velma nodded repeatedly. "Yes. I will definitely stay out of their business and focus on living my life. I won't meddle in anyone's affairs again."
"That's the right thing to do. Alright, if there's nothing else, you can go back now. I'm going to take a rest," Old Madam said, wearily rubbing her temples.
Velma stood up. "Okay, bye. I'm going to teach Glenda a lesson. She almost got me in trouble."
With that, she left the pavilion with a fierce look.
Old Madam helplessly shook her head, but she didn't stop Velma.
Obviously, she supported Velma's decision to settle the score with the McDaniel family.
Those people were disgusting and deserved a lesson from a vixen like Velma.
Then they would realize that the Flint family was their protector, not their servant.
Old Madam's eyelids drooped, and she picked up her cup. Her turbid eyes were filled with frost.
Velma headed out in a hurry.
On her way out of the gate, she ran into two people.
Seeing them hand in hand, Velma widened her eyes in disbelief.
'Are these Julien and Sydney?'
Velma subconsciously stopped in her tracks, gaping at the pair in front of her.
In the distance, they talked and laughed, unaware of her presence.
Their appearances were refined, and they looked like a perfect couple.
Even though she didn't like Sydney, she had to admit that Sydney matched Julien in every way.
But that was not important. The point was why they often appeared in the old residence.
While her mind was wandering, the couple came closer.
Julien saw her first and looked surprised.
He knew that Velma rarely came here because she was afraid of Old Madam.
He didn't expect to bump into her.
The woman beside him noticed his strange look.
"What's wrong?" she asked, following him to look over.
Her smile faded when she saw Velma standing not far away. Her good mood early in the morning was somewhat affected.
It was normal as Velma was the last person she wanted to see.
Her reaction didn't escape Julien's eyes.
He flicked her hair behind her ear and said softly, "Don't fret. I won't let anyone mistreat you."
Sydney smiled. "Fair enough. But if I'm mistreated, you will sleep on the couch for the next month."
Julien's pupils contracted.
'Sleeping on the couch? That's harsh.'
That was considered the worst punishment for him.
To not end up on the couch, he had to protect her every step of the way.
With that in mind, he led Sydney to walk over and took one step forward to shield her.
He knew that Velma didn't like Sydney. When he was around, Velma wouldn't dare to act recklessly, but she might roll her eyes or do something else to upset Sydney. Those were considered mistreatment too.
So, he shielded Sydney, not giving Velma a chance to bully her, even though she might not succeed.
As her man, he was obliged to protect Sydney.
He couldn't sit by just because she could protect herself. Otherwise, what kind of man would he be?
