Chapter 1159 To Be Part of the Flint Family
Sydney looked at the smirking man who had achieved his goal and then at signing Old Madam who looked regretful.
Annoyed, she glared at Julien, patted Old Madam's hand, and comforted her with a smile. "Grandma, don't listen to him. Although I can't be your biological granddaughter, you can treat me as one. This doesn't conflict with my relationship with Julien. Just like how some mothers-in-law see their daughters-in-law as their daughters, it doesn't affect the relationship between their sons and daughters-in-law. It's not like you're going to adopt me."
"Ms. Raines has a point. There's no conflict." Felicia agreed with Sydney and joined her to console Old Madam.
Old Madam thought about it, looking at Felicia and then Sydney. Liveliness came back to her face, and she smiled. "Then it's settled."
Relieved, Sydney nodded vigorously.
At the same time, she didn't forget to glare at the man again.
It was all his fault.
Grandma had been in such a good mood just moments ago, chatting happily with her.
But this petty man made grandma unhappy with his words.
Thankfully, she managed to cheer Old Madam up once again.
Or else, he would be unforgivable.
Julien read her mind and awkwardly rubbed his nose.
He regretted upsetting his grandmother.
But he had to voice his objection, or his wife would become his sister.
That was not something he liked to see.
Their silent interactions didn't escape Old Madam's and Felicia's eyes.
They were both surprised and amused to see Sydney managing to discipline Julien so well.
One of them preached, and the other listened obediently.
It was funny that the arrogant man just silently accepted it.
Felicia bent down and whispered to Old Madam, trying to stifle her laugh. "Old Madam, did you see that? This is the first time I've seen Mr. Julien like this. It's interesting."
"Yeah. Given his personality, I used to think that no girls could restrain him until Syd did it," Old Madam concurred contentedly.
Felicia said, "It takes one to know one, and they are made for each other. It shows that Mr. Julien really loves Ms. Raines, so he willingly accepts her discipline and that Ms. Raines really loves him, so she is willing to guide him. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been bothered."
"Indeed!" Old Madam nodded with a smile.
The dinner was long, but cheerful laughter was throughout.
Sydney, Old Madam, and Felicia did most of the talking and laughing, while Julien talked little. But he kept picking up dishes for them since they were the ones whom he cared about the most in this world. As a result, the three ladies ate a lot, while Julien had little.
It didn't bother him. He was happy as long as they were satisfied.
After dinner, Julien answered Zach's call and went to his former study in the old residence to handle business.
Sydney and Felicia accompanied Old Madam back to her room.
On the way, Sydney talked about the McDaniels going to find her in the office during the day.
After listening to her account, Old Madam sneered. "I knew it. The McDaniels are as shameless as ever. They came to see me empty-handed and with a bad attitude last night. Based on the fact that he guided Julien for a few years, he thought that he could compare with me and put on airs, asking me to plead with Julien for them. That's ridiculous. After sending them away, I guessed that they would come to you. I just didn't expect them to still assume that terrible attitude."
"Yeah. I was stunned by Clay's arrogant words. From where did they get the nerve to ask for my forgiveness? They brazenly claimed that they were the family of Julien's mentor and they were close to him. Since I am going to marry into the Flint family, I am supposed to flutter them, forgive them willingly, and put in a good word for them in front of Julien. Otherwise, they would not agree to me being with Julien. How ridiculous they are!"
She grabbed Old Madam's arm, helping her step over the threshold, before continuing, "They taught me how to do things, as if they were part of the Flint family."
"I've never seen such shameless people," commented Felicia.
Old Madam's face turned cold. "Speaking of which, it's also because Julien indulged them. Since Mr. McDaniel is his mentor, he has helped the McDaniel family a lot. As long as they didn't cross the line, he would not reject their requests. At first, Julien had time to keep an eye on them and prevent them from going beyond themselves and causing trouble. But as Julien became busier, he paid them less attention till they got bolder and forgot that they were from the McDaniel family. When Mr. McDaniel came last night, he acted like the head of the Flint family, so it was only normal that his son talked to you like that." Sydney led Old Madam to sit on the antique bed and said, "People who don't know their places will bring destruction upon themselves."
"Yeah. The McDaniel family has already reached that critical point, haven't they?" Old Madam said, taking the cup handed over by Felicia. After taking a sip of water, she added, "Over the years, they have been haughty because of Julien's indulgence and caused a lot of trouble. They think they will go unpunished, but the accounts have been remembered. Once they are ditched by us, their enemies will take them down sooner and later. Just wait and see."
Old Madam handed the cup back to Felicia.
Sydney helped Old Madam lie down, saying, "As far as I remember, the McDaniel family used to be an insignificant clan. They rose to the top probably after Mr. McDaniel became Julien's mentor. After gaining power, they lost themselves. Typical nouveau riche behavior."
"Exactly!" Old Madam comfortably leaned back on the pillow handed by Sydney. "Fortunately, you didn't yield to those losers' threats and do as they say."
Sydney sat down on the edge of the bed, smiling. "Grandma, I'm not that foolish or weak. I am the chairman of a corporation. Although I'm still new to this role, I have become much more courageous. How could I easily be threatened into compromise?"
