Chapter 37
The guards pushed Kira into her bedroom and locked her in. She threw herself at the door and when that didn’t work she devastated the room with a powerful wind storm. The last of her energy failed her as her things went crashing to the floor. Her heart ached with loneliness. She could feel Domascus no more.
Kira sat on the floor and leaned against the door frame of the balcony. She looked up with tears in her eyes. Michalei stood there looking down at her, arms folded across his chest.
“What do you want?” She growled.
“Just checking in, making sure you’re alright.” He replied.
“What did you do to Domascus?” She demanded an answer as she stood.
“He has been bound and imprisoned just as he offered to be.” Michalei stated.
“I want to see him.” She said.
“That is not going to happen, Kira. He made a deal, his life for yours. You are going to have to accept this and move on.” Michalei said softly.
“To hell if I will. He and I are united and there’s nothing you can do to change that.” Kira growled.
“Time heals everything Kira. Domascus is gone and soon the pain of separation will fade and you’ll be free again.” Michalei said. “I promise you’ll be just fine.”
“Be gone from me you wretched beast.” She turned her back on him.
Michalei shook his head and left Kira to brood alone. He made his way through the castle and found Sephiroth sitting on the throne. He had his head in his hands and appeared completely exhausted.
“How is she?” Sephiroth asked.
“Our Kira is quite pissed off at the moment. I’m sure she’ll calm down in time.” Michalei replied.
“Did you see that look she gave me? She’s never going to forgive me.” Sephiroth sighed.
“She will, but I think we’re going to have to do a few more things before she does.” Michalei replied.
“Let’s discuss that tomorrow my king. You need to rest.” Michalei prompted.
“You’re right.” Sephiroth sighed. “I just can’t get the image out of my mind. Why would Domascus sacrifice his power and freedom for her rather than use those things to destroy the threat?”
“It is nothing more than an illusion my king. Do not let him put doubt in your mind. We have won. Kira will be alright, you’ll see. Now, go and rest.” Michalei stated.
Sephiroth nodded and walked away quietly. He didn’t go straight to bed though. He made his way to Kira’s room and demanded entry. The guards let him pass. What he saw when he walked in broke his heart. She sat with her back against the wall staring out across the city. The room was destroyed and she still bled from her wounds. It was like the life had been sucked right out of her and all her will to live was gone. He hit his knees beside her.
She didn’t even look at him when she said, “You should have trusted me.”
“Kira,” He sighed.
“You should have believed in me.” She added.
“It’s better now Kira you’ll see.” He said.
“No, papa it’s not better.” She sighed. “He is a good man. You should have seen it and now you’ve doomed us all.”
He didn’t know what to say when she added, “Just go.”
Sephiroth wanted to cry. He looked at his daughter and sighed. As he left her alone he knew that she was broken. What he no longer understood was whose fault it was. He went to bed determined to have the answers when he awakened in the morning.
