Singularity

Chapter 26

Kira hadn’t heard from Domascus for days. That could only mean one thing. He had yet to find a solution. Now, here she stood, on the afternoon of the anniversary of her birth. She was a woman now and in a few short hours Michalei would take her as his if Domascus couldn’t stop him.

There were no tears left for Kira to shed as the servants came to prepare her for the ceremony. She was bathed in a cleansing bath filled with scented oil and then dressed in a long silver corset gown. In her black hair a silver crown was placed and attached to it was a white veil. Once her purification was complete she was left alone to stare out over the city in silent misery.

Kira had no idea how long he had been standing there behind her. Two taps of the cane on the floor caused her to turn around. Domascus’ father smiled at her as he stood in the center of the room. At first she thought her mind was playing tricks on her until she found the courage to speak.

“Sir,” She exclaimed. “What are you doing here?”

“There’s something that I need to ask you.” He replied.

“Of course, ask away.” She said as she moved closer to him.

“Do you love my son?” He asked.

Tears formed in her eyes. “More than anything sir.” She replied.

He reached out and grasped the necklace around her neck and pulled it away as she cried out. “No, don’t!”

“You gave life back to me. It’s the least I can do returning the favor.” The necklace appeared around his neck.

“Now go to him.” He demanded. “It won’t take long for them to realize what has been done.”

“Thank you.” She cried as she backed away slowly and vanished in a flash of light.

It only took a few minutes for the door to fly open. Michalei stood there shocked for a moment as he realized what had been done.

“You were expecting someone else?” The old man smirked as he taunted Michalei.

“What have you done?” Michalei howled.

“She is free from you now and nothing you do will stop her.” He laughed.

Sephiroth appeared in the door way just in time to see Michalei fly into an uncontrolled rage. He glided across the room, dagger in hand, and jabbed it harshly up through the ribcage and into his heart. Sephiroth watched in horror as the man died with a smile on his face. He couldn’t understand after everything they had gone through, what was worth dying for. He didn’t have time to figure it out. Michalei stormed across the room and grabbed him by the arm.

“Kira has returned to him. We must go now. Domascus has to be destroyed before she does something foolish.” Michalei stated.

“Yes of course. I shall gather my things.” He replied in a daze and stumbled away down the hall.

Sephiroth couldn’t wrap his mind around what was happening. Michalei had just killed the father of Domascus and was preparing to do the same to the son. Kira was gone. She had run back to him just as he had feared she would. As he gathered his sword he cursed profusely. There was nothing he could do but run with it. He was tired of fighting and it had to end soon. That was what he prayed for as he went back in search of Michalei, a swift end.
