Nydia's words left Ted momentarily stunned. Mona was also surprised.
"Nydia, are you going to abandon your biological son and rush to be someone else's stepmother?"
The moment those words were spoken, Ted's eyes welled up with tears.
"You really betrayed Dad! You're the worst! How could I have such a despicable mother?"
Norman was about to step forward to say something, but Nydia quickly pulled him back, shielding him behind her. Nydia looked at her biological son with a deep sadness in her heart.
"I'll step back, and you can have the mother you think you deserve." Her voice was cold, as though it had no warmth.
Ted's eyes welled up with tears that froze at the corners.
"Have you had enough of this?" A familiar, cold voice interrupted them from the crowd.
Even without looking, Nydia knew who it was. She had expected to run into him once she returned, but she hadn't anticipated it happening so soon.
"It's still the cooling-off period. Are you already planning to find someone else?" Mick's expression darkened, his presence charged with tension.
His cold gaze flicked over to Norman, a clear warning in his eyes. However, to Mick's surprise, Norman was unafraid. He stood with his hands on his hips, glaring back and baring his teeth, as though he wanted to bite him. "Mr. Wilcher, you're just in time."
Nydia ignored his disgusting remarks, choosing to get straight to the point. "I hope you can keep Mr. Ted in check and stop him from causing trouble."
Mick's expression darkened further. "What did you just call him?"
He took a step forward and grabbed Nydia roughly by the arm. "Ted is your biological son!"
In his fury, Mick's grip tightened painfully. Nydia winced, breaking into a cold sweat, unable to speak.
"Moms only care about their own kids. They don't like other kids. She's not my mom!"
Ted's emotions finally broke as he saw that Nydia hadn't even spared him a glance. After crying out, Ted immediately turned and ran, with Mona quickly chasing after him.
Nydia gritted her teeth against the pain, her eyes now cold and distant. She lifted her gaze to Mick, her tone devoid of any warmth. "You saw it he doesn't want me, so why should I Chepp 13
continue making a fool of myself?"
Norman, who had been stunned by the shock earlier, finally reacted. He charged forward like an angry wolf, grabbing Mick's arm.
"Let go of her. You've hurt her, let her go!"
But Mick, in his fury, had no sympathy for the unfamiliar child. Instead of letting go, he tried to shove the boy away.
Norman took the opportunity and bit him. He was using every bit of strength he had.
Mick winced in pain, finally releasing Nydia. But his icy demeanor remained unchanged.
"Heh, you brought this child to the hospital just so I could see him? Do you think I don't see through this little act? Tell me, is this the child of some patient you're taking care of?" Nydia rubbed her reddened wrist, cursing the man in her mind a thousand times over. When she didn't answer, Mick became even more convinced of his suspicions.
"You came back early from abroad because you can't stay away from me? Now you're too proud to apologize, so you bring a child to provoke me?"
He sneered repeatedly. "If you resign right now and promise to stay home and be a good housewife, I might give you another chance."
Without Nydia's care recently, his life had become a bit chaotic. He missed the peaceful years! of their marriage. Since Nydia realized her mistake, as long as her attitude was right, he wouldn't be heartless.
Nydia was so angered by his condescending words that she almost laughed.
"If I remember correctly, we've already divorced, right? My life is none of your business," she. said, reaching for Norman's hand.
"Or are you regretting your decision, Mr. Wilcher?" she added, provoking him further.
Mick was infuriated. "Nydia, if you miss this opportunity to apologize today, I won't forgive you again."
Nydia scoffed. "I'm not some pest that would constantly stare at your broken, decaying mess. Save it for Ms. Poole. After all, she doesn't mind anything."
With that, she grabbed Norman's hand and walked away, leaving Mick behind. Norman kept looking back.
"Ms. Vega, his expression is ridiculous."
Nydia was speechless. She paused but couldn't hold back her laughter. "Don't say things like that."
Norman immediately covered his mouth with both hands, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
His voice leaked out through his fingers. "I'm going to rinse my mouth and be more careful with my language."
Nydia's laughter grew louder. Norman was such a bundle of joy.
But little did she know, not far around the corner, Ted had been hiding. He watched them. The joyful sight of Nydia and Norman laughing together made his small fists clench tightly.
After Nydia checked on the patients she was overseeing, she returned to her office and ran into Nelson Mcbride, who had just returned from his studies abroad.
Nelson always wore gold-rimmed glasses, and his delicate features stood out against his soft
skin.
He handed her a form.
"Wait a coincidence! I was just looking for you," he said.
Nydia took the form and glanced at it. It was about a medical competition. Such events happened many times a year, but this one was different-it was a national-level competition and only top-tier doctors were invited.
"Do you want me to make copies for you?" she asked, feeling a bit confused.
Nelson smiled softly, his tone calm and warm. "How about you and I team up for the competition? Afterward, we'll be working closely with Mr. Neel on surgeries."
"Ah?" Nydia couldn't believe what he had said. "But... Can I do it?"
"I've heard about your training abroad, and your self-created technique that can bring the dead back to life-just that alone outshines most people."
"Nelson, you're too kind. I'll be counting on your guidance. I hope we can achieve great results together."
Nelson smiled slightly, his voice even gentler now. "I hope so too."
Then, he paused before quietly adding, "I heard that you were troubled by a patient today?"
Although the crowd had dispersed later, there were still some gossipers. Many people believe that there must be something suspicious about Mona changing her attending doctor. It was possible that Mona tried to interfere in Wick's relationship with Nydia, which was why someone came to confront her. Nydia waved her hand dismissively. "It's nothing. Some people speak before thinking."
"I'm glad it didn't affect you," Nelson said, a hint of concern in his voice.
After a brief hesitation, he added, "By the way, it's nearly time to leave. Should I give you a ride home? We can discuss the details of the competition on the way."
Just as Nydia was about to decline, Norman ran over from where he had been quietly flipping through a picture book. "Yes, yes! Ms. Vega, let's go! I feel like I've been pickled in disinfectant.
Nelson breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Norman's words. "Relative's child?" he asked.
Nydia hesitated, unsure how to explain Norman's relationship to her. After all, his background was far from simple.
