Chapter Saying Goodbye To My Troubles 11
Chapter 11
Nydia nearly choked on her saliva.
Her life was just beginning, and now she was being asked to become Eddie's wife and take on such a responsibility. That was out of the question. Norman asked, "Ms. Vega, why are you coughing so much? Are you sick?"
Norman looked completely confused, his hair sticking up like antennae as if he were trying to pick up signals.
Nydia took a couple of sips of water to calm herself down.
"No, no, I'm fine."
Norman was even more puzzled. "Then what's wrong?"
Nydia thought for a moment, then asked with a serious tone, "I saved you on the plane, does. that mean you owe me something?"
Norman nodded eagerly. He promised he would be grateful to Nydia forever.
"So, you should become my aunt, and I'll take care of you."
Nydia nearly choked again, almost losing her breath. After some time, she calmed down. She gently patted Norman's head.
"Helping you was no big deal; I didn't expect anything in return. Of course, I also hope you..." She coughed again, pulling a face. "Don't repay kindness with harm." Norman blinked, clearly puzzled. He wondered if becoming Eddie's wife was such a bad thing.
After a long pause, Norman seemed to come to a decision, his face full of determination.
"Then I'll be your son, and we'll never be apart.
Nydia coughed harder, unable to catch her breath, and gave his shoulder a playful slap What's with you today? Can't stop shocking me, huh?"
Norman clung to her arm like a little boy asking for attention. "But I want to be with you, Ms. Vega."
Nydia gazed at him and couldn't help but feel a little sentimental. She had raised Ted for five years, but in the end, he only wanted someone else to be his mother.
Yet Norman, who had only been with her for a week, trusted her completely, sticking to her like glue. It seemed that family bonds couldn't be forced, no matter how hard you tried. "This is out of the question too, because I'm going back home soon," Nydia said.
Chapter 11
She had come here to further her studies, and Eddie had provided a lot of support. That had already repaid the life-saving favor that Norman owed her.
Once she returned Elipus, she would be worlds apart from the Houle family, and there would. be no further connection.
Norman pouted immediately. "Ms. Vega, don't you like me?" The words were barely out of his mouth before he began to cry.
Nydia couldn't comfort him, so she took out a brooch from her clothes and handed it to him. It was a cartoon version of a giant panda, one she had made herself.
"Don't cry. Look, I got you a gift."
Norman immediately stopped crying and looked down at the brooch in his hands. "This is for you. If you miss me, you can find me at the Surgical Department of Elipus Medical Center." Norman's eyes brightened instantly. "Let's make a pinky swear, and it'll be a promise for a lifetime!"
Nydia laughed and extended her hand, making the pinky promise. "Alright, a promise for a lifetime."
Eddie hadn't been around last night. She had heard that Brigham had already been discharged, and the two of them had talked all night..
Nydia wasn't interested in the business dealings of the big shots. Without Eddie's contact information, she had to send a message to his assistant explaining that she was leaving.
To her surprise, when she was at the airport in the afternoon, Eddie appeared with Norman in tow. Norman was wearing a well-fitted little suit, carrying a light gray crocodile leather bag. As soon as he saw her, he ran over and jumped into her arms. "Ms. Vega, I want to go with you," Norman said.
Nydia had just picked him up, but at his words, she nearly lost her breath in shock.
"Mr. Houle, I didn't..." She wasn't planning on taking Norman with her.
Eddie remained as cold as always, with no expression on his face. "It's my decision."
Nydia blinked in confusion.
"I have some matters to attend to and can't take care of him. He'll go back with you to Elipus. I'm entrusting you to look after him for a few days."
It wasn't a request or a discussion. It was an order that left no room for refusal.
"Mr. Houle, you..."
"30 million dollar's in-compensation," Eddie added, cutting her off."
Nydia tightened her hold on Norman and smiled. "Talking about money feels too formal. I mostly just enjoy spending time with children."
Norman clapped his hands happily. "Yay!"
Eddie had arranged for a private jet. "There will be a dedicated team to ensure your safety while you're in Elipus."
Nydia hesitantly asked, "Earlier, you mentioned that you'd like me to look after him for a few days. How long would that be?"
"At least half a month, possibly up to a month."
"Got it."
Perhaps feeling she wasn't quite steady enough, Eddie handed her a phone number. "If your encounter any trouble, you can contact this person."
He paused, as if remembering their earlier conversation about equality, then added, "He won't. interfere with you. There's no pressure.
Nydia carefully placed the contact information in her bag. The things given by a big shot could very well save her life at a critical moment. "Thank you, Mr. Houle. Goodbye." Eddie nodded.
Norman didn't have any intention of saying goodbye. He clung to Nydia, looking thrilled.
"You look like you really want to leave your uncle, don't you?"
Nydia didn't dare ask why Eddie had entrusted her with Norman. Given Eddie's status, he must have considered it carefully before asking her, so there was no need to question it further. Besides, she genuinely liked Norman, so she didn't mind looking after him. "Some people may seem human, but in reality, they're total monsters," Norman muttered.
Nydia blinked, "Huh?"
It took her a moment to realize that Norman was expressing dissatisfaction with Eddie's autocratic ways.
"Aren't you worried I'll tell your uncle about that?" she teased.
Norman immediately deflated. His little hair tuft flopped down like a wilting antenna.
"So... Does love change? You don't love me anymore? You love my uncle now?" His innocent. words caught Nydia off guard.
Children really did have a way of speaking that was both endearing and terrifying at the same
time.
Change 11
Nydia hurriedly covered Norman's mouth with her hand. "Little brat, if you keep talking like that, you'd better watch your back." Norman blinked his beautiful eyes and tugged her hand away.
"So,
you still love me the most," he said happily, jumping up and wrapping his arms around her, swinging back and forth.
Nydia had initially felt a bit of sadness at leaving, but now it all faded away. She laughed and picked Norman up again, heading onto the private jet.
Once the plane landed, Nydia took Norman to the hospital to report in. Her work was highly research-driven, and the department head, Harlan Neel, was very pleased.
"You should write more papers. You're truly talented and deserve recognition."
Nydia felt a bit embarrassed. "But some of my treatments combine modern and traditional medicine, and some are even my own creations. They haven't been internationally certified." Harlan didn't mind at all and responded encouragingly, "You saved lives, that's the strongest proof."
Nydia's mind immediately opened up, and several new research topics began to form in her thoughts.
Just as she was about to discuss more details, she received a call from her colleague, Jane Slater. "Nydia, you need to come quickly. The boy you brought in got into a flight with the other kids." Nydia's heart skipped a beat.
