Chapter My Troubles 15
Chapter 15
Many people were dissatisfied when Nydia announced her participation in the upcoming medical competition.
As a result, she took part in several difficult surgeries in the past few days, with many doctors. observing from the outside on a large screen.
After witnessing her exceptional skills, the voices of opposition gradually diminished. As she walked out of the operating room, Nelson smiled. "You did great today. Mr. Woodward happened to pass by and saw your technique in cyst removal. He was in awe." Nydia, still feeling the tension of the surgery, relaxed now that it was over. "You're not lying to me, are you?"
Nelson adjusted his glasses. "Talent always shines through, and remember, never forget where you came from once you've made it."
Nydia couldn't hide her smile after receiving the praise. As she washed her hands, the splashes were louder than usual. Nelson watched her, his gaze deepening as he observed her beaming expression.
"I've been thinking..." He hesitated for a moment before speaking.
Nydia paused. "What are you thinking?"
"I think you've changed." But then, he quickly shook his head.
Nydia froze, unsure of how to respond.
"Well, not changed exactly. You were like this even back in college," Nelson continued.
Nydia was stunned.
She had grown up in the countryside with Lizzie Spencer, so naturally, she wasn't the type to back down easily. Lizzie was now a department head, known for her fiery personality and determination.
As for Nydia, when she had first married Mick, her temper had just been just as fiery.
She helped Mick, who had recently lost his sight, deal with many people who tried to take advantage of him. At the time, Mick was deeply moved and even said she was the best wife in the world.
But things had changed after Mick regained his sight. Once, during an outing, she'd confronted a manipulative woman. Then, it was revealed that the woman had been intentionally framing someone else. However, the woman's family was exactly the kind of group the Whilcer family sought to ally
with.
Mick had gotten angry and asked her to calm down. After that, he never took her to any more events. Eventually, when Mona appeared, everyone started to believe that she was Mick's wife, "Is that so?" Nydia bit her lip, feeling like a fool for how she had behaved in the past.
Sensing her thoughts, Nelson said meaningfully Unrefined stones are often found at the peak, while smooth pebbles are trampled underfoot."
No one should dull their edge at any time. If they did, they would only become someone else's. stepping stone.
"You're doing just fine the way you are now."
Noticing her sudden shift in mood, Nelson quickly changed the subject. "Back when you were in college, everyone loved you. Our professors always said you were like a little sunbearn.
He had meant it as a lighthearted comment to make her smile, but Nydia's eyes shimmered. with unshed tears instead.
She almost felt like she was no longer the confident, radiant woman she once was, instead, she had become lost and weighed down.
"Thank you for the reminder, Nelson," she said softly.
She would be herself from now on.
Nelson handed her a pack of tissues, and she hurriedly wiped her tears away. "You did great in surgery today. It's worth celebrating. Norman mentioned he wanted to go to an amusement park. How about we take him after work." Nydia paused for a moment. "But...?"
"Norman would love it. I'll buy the tickets," he said before she could refuse. Without waiting for her answer, he had already pulled out his phone to make the arrangements.
"Wasn't Norman excited about the suspension bridge? You should bring an extra set of clothes, in case he falls in the water," Nelson continued as they walked back to the office.
Nydia found herself thinking about how much had changed. In the past, she only had eyes for her husband and son. She showed up at work on time and left on time, rarely interacting with colleagues.
Even though Nelson was a fellow alumnus and had helped her out at work, their interactions had been minimal.
Now, though, she realized how thoughtful Nelson was. After just one day with Norman, he already remembered her preferences.
Nydia couldn't help but mutter to herself, "Turns out men do have a good memory after all."
When Ted was born, he had been weak. During her maternity leave, she hardly slept.
Before returning to work, she had written down everything to take care of him. But not long. after, she got a call that he was allergic to something.
She had to take more time off to care for him.
For many years, Mick had forgotten Ted's peanut allergy, her birthday, and even Ted's favorite things. Whenever she complained, Mick would tell her to stay home and be a housewife, as if by doing that, he wouldn't need to remember anything about their family. At the time, she had thought all men were the same-straightforward and without the capacity for these finer details. But now she realized it wasn't that they couldn't remember, it was that they simply didn't want to.
Nelson was still pondering whether to visit the haunted house when he heard her voice. He turned his head slightly. "What? I didn't catch that."
"Nothing," Nydia replied, smiling faintly as her thoughts were interrupted.
"I'll go check qn Norman now.
Meanwhile, Norman sat quietly in the doctor's break room, speaking to Eddie on a video call.
"Uncle Eddie, aren't you coming back soon?"
"Your wife will be taken away if you don't hurry. I'm doing my best to protect her for you.'
Eddie sat in the opulently decorated room, his posture relaxed and detached. Beside him, Max lay sprawled at his feet, occasionally lifting a paw toward the screen, almost as if waving. Norman's dissatisfaction grew even deeper.
"Look! Even Max here knows to thank me. Uncle Eddie, you're the rude one here."
Eddie, seemingly uninterested in Norman's complaints, asked flatly, "Are you done playing around? If so, I'll have Keith pick you up."
Norman's eyes widened in shock. "I'm talking about your wife. If I leave, you'll lose her for
sure."
Eddie leaned back against the plush couch, excusing a cool, lazy demeanor. "Keith will pick you up later. Pack your bags."
Without waiting for a response, he ended the video call.
Norman sat there, utterly dumbfounded. His tiny fists clenched in frustration. "Why doesn't Uncle Eddie want a wife? But I want an aunt so badly."
Just then, Nydia pushed open the door and walked in. She caught sight of Norman sitting on the chair, looking utterly defeated.

The smile on her face-faded as she approached quickly. "What's wrong?"
Norman didn't just look upset, he looked like he was on the verge of tears. Without hesitation, he grabbed onto her arm. "Ms. Vega, I just want to stay with you."
Nydia blinked, clearly puzzled. She hadn't even hinted at sending him away.
After all, Eddie was her big sponsor, and Norman was practically a little patron himself.
Kids had quirky thoughts, though, so she didn't dwell on it too much. Instead, she gave him a reassuring smile and said, "How about this? I'll take you to the amusement park. Sound good? Norman's eyes instantly lit up. He hadn't been to an amusement park before.
Eddie always restricted his movements. He was dying to try the Ferris wheel. "Really? Yes, please!"
With so many people at the park, Keith would never be able to track him down
"Ms. Vega, let's go now! I want to ride the Ferris wheel, the big pendulum, and the roller coaster. You'll come with me, right?"
Nydia laughed as he pulled her hand toward the door. "Slow down. We still need to wait for Nelson."
Norman froze. "Wait, what?"
"Uncle Eddie, I've done everything I could. You're on your own now."
