Chapter 2. Greenwolf
Zane
It's a usual Friday night for me. Another town, another bar, and another night of hooking up with random women. My picks tonight are a group of freshly turned vampires. They are new and scared. They want guidance and I'm here to lend a hand or third leg if I'm lucky.
I'm somewhere on the East Coast in a jazzy club called Starfish. Terrible name but it's vampire-friendly. Sadly for me, it had been too friendly in the past and I've been banned for getting drunk and fighting the owner. Luckily for me, the chump is nowhere around so I'm in the clear.
The girls at the table are already drunk and are giggling nonstop. It's annoying but I don't have much choice if I plan on getting laid tonight. It's not that I'm a bad-looking guy. With my wavy brown locks and gray eyes, I'm quite a catch. Also after being alone for a hundred years, I have a pretty large amount of money saved up to spend on drinks.
But the problem is all girls want now are relationships. And I'm not the one-woman type of a guy. They say I'm emotionally unavailable, but I have emotions. I just don't want to share them with anyone. Plus no girl wants to be with a loser with no job, vampire or not.
I used to work for a guy named Aquarius. He was rich and powerful. Everyone wanted to work for him but he chose me. He owns a contract-killing business. If you want a supernatural creature dead he makes sure it happens.
The Royal Council have rules in place to keep the supernatural world at peace. Rule number one is to stick to your own kind, most do this anyway. Rule number two is it's illegal and immoral to kill another supernatural being. Doing so will result in immediate punishment which is usually death to you and your loved ones. There are more rules but they aren't as important.
Aquarius works for the Royal Council which is why he is so important. He helps decide who lives and dies and you don't want on his bad side. He has at least two hundred vampires working for him. Traveling across the country killing whoever he says to. It's pretty much an army for the Royal Council. I was the best and everyone knew it. I got the best contracts and all the popularity that came with it. Girls, money I had it all.
But one day he gave me a contract I couldn't complete. He wanted me to slay a family of humans. I found them and watched them for a week. I couldn't figure out why he wanted them dead. They seemed normal, innocent.
I went back to Aquarius and told him I refused to do it. I don't kill innocents and I don't kill humans. Their weak and inferior they are no match for us. It's best to just leave them alone and let them kill themselves off.
Aquarius wasn't happy. He told me to do the job or get lost, and that I was replaceable. So I left and ever since then, my life has gone downhill. I couldn't get any other vampire jobs. I was blacklisted. And I refused to work with humans. My life seemed to lose all meaning.
So now I travel around. I own a penthouse nearby but hardly stay there. I spend my time partying and hooking up with women. But it's starting to get boring. I don't think I can suffer through this for another hundred years.
My depressing thoughts are interrupted by a large hand on my shoulder. I already knew who it was and it isn't who I want it to be. I put on my best panty-dropping smile. "Bruno! What a surprise! you still work here?" I get yanked out of my seat and I'm now staring down a six-foot, four-hundred-pound monster. My favorite asshole security guard around here.
His voice which is as deep as his belly button I assume roars out. "Zane Wilder! You're banned from here or did you forget?" He scolds me.
I let out a fake laugh to lighten the mood. "Still holding grudges I see. I'm sorry I didn't know it was your mother." The table of women laugh but Bruno does not look happy.
He drags me toward the back of the club. I hear the metal door open and I am thrown onto the ground landing on my ass. I stand up quickly and dust off my jeans and dark blue button-up shirt.
Bruno stares at me from the doorway with his arms crossed. "Do not come back. Next time I not so nice."
"Yeah yeah screw me over who cares how I feel!" I yell the last part but no one seems to care. Bruno shuts the door without giving me another glance.
Horny and hungry I start walking down the dark alley. I shove my hands in my pockets and kick a crumpled-up soda can. This wasn't how I wanted my night to end. I at least thought I would be in a bed full of women in some sleazy motel. Now I have to make a new plan.
I keep walking until I hear voices. It's humans and they're headed my way. I walk over to the brick building and lean against it. Fading away into the shadows I wait for my next meal to make its arrival.
"That bar sucked we need a new spot." One male complained.
"I heard Greenwolf has an all-nude strip club let's go."
Stepping out from the shadows I make my presence known. "Strip club sounds like fun to me." I flash my red eyes and fangs alarming the humans.
In seconds I bite the neck of one and knock the other one down stepping on his chest. I pull my mouth away feeling the warm blood drip down my chin.
"Delicious, Maybe I'll go to Greenwolf next."
