Chapter 14
The house was quiet when I woke. I enjoyed the quiet as I woke and showered. I knew that we would get some answers today, and things could get crazy quick. I finished showering and put on some jeans and a loose top. I smiled when I had to use an elastic to hold my button together, I knew it was stil just bloat at this moment, but I was still excited to still be pregnant when all of this was happening.
I walked out to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee and found Sean at the counter looking at a folder of paper. When he saw me he put them away and smiled.
"Did you sleep alright?" he asked bring his cup of coffee to his lips.
"Yes, thank you. I needed a good nights rest." I fixed my mug of coffee, and took a sip.
"Oliver had an emergency he had to treat, but should be back soon. He didn't want to wake you." "Oh, ok."
"Are you hungry?" he asked as he turned to face me. I faced him and let my eyes linger on his form. He was wearing a t-shirt that fit snuggly across his shoulders, but loosely around his abs. His sweatpants were hung low on his hips. He looked amazing, and he wasn't even dressed for the day. I found myself biting my lower lip, as I took another sip of coffee. "Darling, you can't bite your lip. It does things to a man."
"Any man, or you?" I brazenly threw back.
"Oliver and I talked, I know what you decided. I'm trying to ease you into the new dynamic, but darling, chewing your lip like that tests every ounce of control I have-and I have alot." He pushed himself off the counter, and slowly approached like he was nervous I would run.
"What if I don't want to be eased in." He grinned at my response.
"You aren't ready to fully be with both of us." I felt my eyebrows wrinkle. I had decided to try it, doesn't that make me ready? "Physically, you aren't ready." He clarified, "But don't worry, we'll work on that." He said as he brought his hand to my check. I leaned into his touch. He brought a sense of comfort, of ease. He felt like Oliver, but different. I cleared my throat and straightened my head back out. I took of sip of coffee.
"So, um, did you find anything out yet?" I asked, moving away. I had to put space between us. I went to sit at the table with my coffee.
"It looks like he's still back at his house. He hasn't missed work. We still don't know if he's working alone yet or not, but leaning toward yes. It explains how Gina was able to be taken by surprise. She wouldn't have let Josh get that close to her." he added opening the file back up. His head shot back up. "You didn't answer me. Are you hungry?"
"A little. Do you have bacon?" I asked perking up. Bacon sounded amazing.
"Do I have bacon? What kind of man would I be if I said no. That's a crime, ma'am." He said teasingly as he went to the fridge.
I stood to help, and he shooed me away. I grinned, set my coffee down, and grabbed a pan. He watched me do this with an eyebrow arched, but didn't move to stop me. I placed the pan on the stove and let it start warming. Grabbing the butter and eggs from him, I started melting the butter, watching it as went from a liquid to a solid. Gosh, I loved eggs cooked in butter. I grabbed an egg from the carton and cracked it into the pan. Smiling, as I thought of yummy the food was going to be. I was starved.
I grabbed a spatula from the holder by the stove and turned back to flip the egg cooking. As I turned the smell of the egg cooking hit me like a freight train. My stomach turned instantly, and I dropped the spatula and ran to the bathroom, with my hand over my mouth. I heard Sean call my name, and the click of the stove top being turned off. As I reached the toilet, I instantly fell to my knees as my empty stomach heaved. I went to move my hair aside, but felt it being pulled back.
"It's ok, darling, I got you." I head Sean soothe as he rubbed my back and held my hair. After a few minutes I was convinced I was done. I turned and leaned back against the tub as I caught my breath. Sean stood up and grabbed a face cloth, wetting it with warm water. He handed to me along with a glass of water as I wiped my face.
"So, the baby doesn't like eggs." Sean chuckled.
"So you know about the baby, but are still ok with us?" I asked.
"Oliver doesn't keep much from me. Plus, he's already talked about adding me in. He wanted to be sure that I wouldn't freak about the pregnancy and hurt you." He said looking at his hands as he squatted down next to me. I just nodded and let my head fall back to rest on the edge of the tub.
"So you are ok, with it then." I asked, not meeting his eyes.
"Look at me when I tell you this, darling," he started waiting for me to follow his command, "I consider it a blessing to be a part of the relationship, and watching you grow and raising a child with the two of you. Blood or not." He said as he put his hand to my cheek. I couldn't help myself and leaned into his hand. I nodded, and got up. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"Back out to find somthing to eat, I'm starving." I threw over my shoulder. I heard him scramble to get ot his feet, and follow me out. When I entered the kitchen I saw Oliver cooking.
"You just dry heaved for five minute, and now you want to add something to your stomach?" Sean asked confused. Oliver's head lifted and grin appeared.
"Welcome to pregnancy, man. Don't question it, did the eggs do you in, sugar?" He asked looking at than of eggs he was finishing cooking.
"Yea, the smell." I said glaring at the pan.
"So bacon and pancakes it is." Oliver said, setting the eggs aside. He finished making breakfast and we ate in comfortable silence.
"Sam has confirmed that Josh is still back at his home. So I'm not sure how he found the information, but he hasn't appeared to physically be looking for you. We sent a guy over to monitor, but it doesn't seem that he knows where you are. If Sean agrees, I think we stay here. But there's not reason to go into a complete lock down yet." Sean nodded as he said this.
"Well, than I wanted to talk to you about something." I said, pushing my plate away. The looked at me, waiting for me to speak. "I'd like to get a job and would like to start working again. It's been a while since I've worked, but I want to earn my own way." I said looking into my empty coffee cup.
"You don't have to work if you don't want to, sugar. We have more than enough to take care of you. But if you want to work, we won't stand in the way. There's a few business around that have help wanted signs, I'd start there. Or you could always freelance, and find customers online." Oliver said with a shrug. I was so excited. I got up and hugged them both. I'm going to get my shoes, than I check around locally." I said as I quickly left the room.
I grabbed my shoes and came back to see that Sean was dressed and waiting in the living room.
"I'm going to go with you, Oliver wanted to sleep-he was up early with his emergency this morning." Sean said grabbing his keys. I nodded and followed him out to his truck. The first stop we made was to a local clothing store. They had just hired someone yesterday and hadn't taken the sign down. She took my information in case something opened. Our next stop was to a bakery, but I didn't have the skill set needed. The third stop, turned out to be a success though. It was a book store, and they needed someone to help with stocking shelves and running the check out. I was super excited I loved to read, so this was like the perfect job.
I agreed to start the following week, and convinced Sean to stop so I could get some work clothes before we turned for home. As we came back from the clothing store, my phone rang. It was a local number so I answered it, it was the OB. We set an appointment for the end of the week, I was nervous because I was worried the week would crawl by.
Sean, Oliver and I fell into a comfortable routine. I learned more about Sean, and before I knew it, it was Friday and time for my appointment. I convinced both of the guys to come with me. We were in the exam room waiting, nervous energy filled the room. I jumped with the door opened.
"Hi, guys. I'm Dr. Elizabeth Jones. I'm going to be your OB. Oliver already filled me in on your history, so we can skip that. We have that you should be around 9 or 10 weeks, with a due date of November 12th. This isn't your first pregnancy correct, you had a loss in the second trimester last time, due to trauma?" I nodded. "So we are going to get some routine labs. Any risks for genetic disorders on your side or the father's?" I shook my head. "Ok, so we'll just the routine work, and if something pops a red flag, we will investigate more." She said writing in my chart. "Any symptoms, questions, or concerns?"
"No, I've had some morning sickness, but nothing too bad." She nodded.
"That's common, one the best ways to handle it is have some saltines by the bed. Eat a few in the morning before you get up. Try to have several small meals and snacks. When you stomach is empty, that usually at it's worse." She responded, noting it on the papers. "Want to do a quick ultrasound and make sure our dating is correct?" I nodded, excitedly. "We can try an abdominal approach, but depending on how far you are, we may have to do a transvaginal ultrasound." I laid back, and she lifted my shirt. "This may be cold." she warned as she plopped some jelly on my belly. She moved the wand, spreading the gel around. Almost instantly a heartbeat filled the room. I felt tears prick the back of my eyes. Oliver and Sean each grabbed a hand. The doctor was very quiet as she did the exam. Finally, she looked at me, and my stomach fell.
