–Elazar–

As the light of the spirit shards sparkled within the cave around us, I could only see their enchanting light reflected in Kora’s hazel eyes.

Right at this moment, nothing else mattered except her. Not finding a way out, or tending to the wounds on my body. She was the only thing I could see, and the only thing I wished for. The only thing I wanted, with her beautiful pink lips and soft pale skin.

It was as if she was the only thing that existed, the only thing that truly felt real in my life. Despite her being the small, frail one, it felt as though she was holding me in the palm of her hand.

I was trapped within her gaze, within her presence.

Kora lifted her hand towards my face, a curious spark dancing behind her eyes as I held my breath. Her eyes moved to the top of my head and I felt all rationality leave me.

Is she looking at my mane? Is she looking at me as a potential mate?!

My eyes briefly glanced at her long, unbraided locks and my tail flicked around happily beside us.

As she reached towards my head, I tensed. She grabbed hold of my horn, tugging on it gently, and I crumbled from the bolt of pleasure that surged through me, followed by a growl that was akin to a whimper.

Removing my hand from her face, I clutched the female’s wrist to stop her, but she only tightened her grip, refusing to let go as a stern glare took over her features.

“Kora–”

“I knew it!” she exclaimed. “You get turned on when I pull on your horns!”

She tugged on it once more as if to prove a point, sending an overwhelming shock down my spine and straight to my shaft.

Faux!

I gritted my teeth, trying not to move and lose control. But she was making it really hard by holding on, still straddling my waist.

“Female–you need to let go!”

I strained, bending forward enough to keep the pressure to a minimum.

“Are you a massakest or something?! Is that why you pushed me out of the way when the plant tried to grab me?!”

She tugged harder, and I shuddered.

Faux! I can hardly understand what she’s saying!

“I do not understand,” I hissed through my teeth. My tail tumped against the ground hard as I tried to keep her from pulling on my horn again.

“You really are a perv, aren’t you? Is that why you keep sticking around me? Is that why you brought us out here?!”

She grabbed my other horn with her free hand, and I shuddered as pleasure coursed through my body.

A snarl escaped my throat as I rolled, pinning Kora beneath me. She squeaked as I bit into her bare shoulder, digging my claws into her thick thighs to hold her in place. I barely kept myself in check, from piercing her delicate skin as I growled.

My tail swiped around wildly as I held the small female down, her soft frame cushioned sweetly beneath me.

“Holy shit–ok, ok I yeeld!” she breathed as She slowly relinquished her hold on my horns.

I could feel her heart racing against my chest, and her rapid pulse beating between my fangs.

I shifted, drawing one knee up between her legs, and a sweet scent filled my nose as the growling in my throat died down. Carefully, I removed my fangs and claws from her flesh, pulling away as I reined in control over myself once more.

Looking down at Kora’s exasperated face, I could see that red tint spreading across her cheeks in the dark. She swallowed hard, and my gaze locked onto the delicate skin on her throat as it moved. My tongue flicked out, running across my fangs and lips, desperate for just the slightest taste of her skin.

“Okay, not gonna lie–that was kinda hot,” Kora muttered.

My eyes moved back to her face. My entire body was pulsing with energy as I hovered over the small creature before me, battling against my instincts to take her.

Those hazel eyes moved downwards and widened. I followed her gaze, only to become self conscious about the erection peeking out from underneath my leathers.

I hadn’t forgotten the first time she witnessed my shaft, how angry she had been by it.

With a growl, I turned my head away from her, running a hand over my face.

I messed up again. What was I thinking? She’s repulsed by me, why was I foolish enough to think she could ever consider me a potential mate?! Why would such thoughts even occur within my mind! She is a human! How could I court a human?!

There were so many obstacles that had completely evaded my consciousness until now.

We were not the same.

Being mated to Kora would be looked down upon by all, and would only cause harm for both of us. Not to mention she was repulsed by my appearance, and became angry any time she noticed my arousal!

I jumped to my feet, retreating. I grabbed at my hair in frustration, turning away to hide myself from her until I could quell my unrequited desire.

How could I be so foolish? Letting myself become entranced by her.

I-I shouldn’t even be here. I shouldn’t be around her, around a human. I should be back within my den, crafting weapons or tools! I’ve been so blinded by all these strange feelings I obtained in her presence, that I forgot what I am…

The memory of losing Ratha to Talok came crashing down on me all at once, dread and shame seeping into my very soul.

I’m a failure. A worthless male who lost his chance at having a mate.

And now, all I could imagine was Kora looking at me with the same disgust and shame as Ratha.

Kora didn’t want me! How could she? And why couldn’t I accept that and leave her alone? Was I simply using her as an excuse to drown out everything that had happened?

Was I really so pathetic?

A soft, small hand grasped my own. I snapped back to reality, glancing at the small female. Her face was twisted with worry, not disgust like I had expected.

“Who hurt you, El?”

Her question was so simple, yet I did not know how to answer. No one had harmed me physically, but a part of me knew that wasn’t what she was asking.

Unable to answer, I turned away in shame, not wanting her to see me so weak. So pathetic.

“El.” Kora grasped my face firmly, turning my head to look down at her once more. Her beautiful hazel eyes bore into me, making me feel helpless.

I hated it. I hated this feeling. I hated being so weak.

“I’m a pathetic excuse for a male…all this time, I have been using you to make myself feel better.”

Kora wasn’t weak or frail. She did not need someone to protect her and care for her. She was capable of doing that all on her own. I could see it in her eyes each time we scavenged for food together, or when I showed her something new.

She only lacked the proper knowledge to survive out here in the forest, not the strength. And yet here I was, believing I needed to care for and protect her, like I was something more than-than this.

I gritted my teeth, forcing my gaze down to the floor, unable to meet her eyes.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know–” I choked on the words and grabbed at my hair, pulling it taunt. I was ready to tear out every strand from my skull after what I did.

“Stop it.” Kora’s feminine voice spoke up sternly. She grabbed hold of my hands and pulled them away from my head, making me face her once more. “I don’t know what you’re beating yourself up for, but stop it.”

“I’m a failure of a male.”

She was silent for a moment, her eyes searched mine before her gaze softened. She tugged me forward as she took a seat on the ground, pulling me down to sit with her. I reluctantly followed suit, crouching down in front of her.

“You’re not a failure, Elazar.”

Those little words tugged at my heart harder than she ever did my horns, but I could only focus on everything I had done wrong. I opened my mouth to speak, to argue this fact, only to be silenced as Kora slapped a hand over my lips.

“Hush up, and listen.” She gave me a hard glare that made my tormenting thoughts quiet down. “I know we haven’t known each other long, and I know little to nothing about you…I don’t know what has you so upset or why you’re beating yourself up, but I do know it’s not worth the stress. I’ve done it for years and I know for a fact it only makes things worse.

“I’ve lived my entire life being treated like trash, being told I’m worthless and could never amount to anything. At some point, I started seeing myself the way others did, and ended up being used and pushed around by people. I made some really sheety choices that put me where I am today. Those same people turned their backs on me and sent me here to die on this planet!”

She went silent for a moment, staring down at her hands. With a shaky breath she returned her gaze to me with a smile. “But I didn’t die. I fought and survived, and even now I’m still dephyng them. Proving them wrong, that life isn’t so unforgiving and messrabel. That I’m not so helpless.”

Kora…

“I’m not sure what others have told you or how they have treated you, but take my advice. Don’t let their words or ideals shape you, you’re a good male, Elazar. If it wasn’t for you, I would’ve died long ago.”

Despite the broken Xandisian and mix of English, I still seemed to understand most of what Kora was saying. Or at least, I was able to determine the meaning behind her words, and I felt a bit better about everything.

She was right about one thing. Ratha’s disappointment in me and the shame I created by failing against Talok in that challenge…I couldn’t let it hinder me. I was still a capable hunter and natural survivor, and I shouldn’t let the tribe’s ideals stop me either.

Kora does need me…just as much as I need her. It doesn’t matter that we are different, that she’s human and I am not.

Reaching out, I wrapped an arm around Kora’s waist, pulling her closer. Her eyes widened, but I hardly hesitated before nuzzling my forehead against hers, closing my eyes.

I will protect her. I will keep her safe and make her happy. I’ll make sure of it.

Silence filled the air around us with the occasional drip of water from above hitting the floor. When I opened my eyes, I was met with the beautiful sight of those hazel irises I’d come to adore.

“I thought you were going to kiss me,” she murmured.

I pulled back slightly, unsure what she meant. “I do not know what that is.”

A small smile played on her lips as she giggled. “Then maybe I should show you, you big dummy.”

Kora grabbed hold of my face and closed her eyes before pressing her lips to my own. I froze, unsure what to do or how to respond. But that didn’t seem to deter her as she gently moved her lips against my own.

Tentatively, I closed my eyes, attempting to mimic the motion. It didn’t take long for me to learn exactly how a kiss worked, and I started to enjoy it. The longer the kiss went on, the more I wanted to taste her…and the sweeter that strange scent in the air became.

Without even realizing it, my tongue darted out, stroking her lips. Just from that small taste I nearly panicked, worried I had just done something I shouldn’t have. I tried to pull away but Kora held onto me, pushing her tongue against my mouth. Hesitantly, I parted my lips to let her in.

Our tongues clashed and a deep purr rumbled within my chest from the feel and taste of her mouth. I melted into her as a shiver worked its way across the back of my neck. Squeezing my eyes shut, I wrapped my arms around her small frame, tugging her closer.

She moaned as I explored her mouth fervently, needing to taste all of her, to know every inch of her. All too soon she pulled away, gasping for air, and I slowly came back to reality after that ethereal experience, my mind feeling… fuzzy?

“Phuck, you’re actually a really good kisser.” She chuckled.

I couldn’t pull my gaze away from her lips as she smiled. My tongue darted out, running over my own to chase the smallest taste of her.

Against my better judgment, I leaned in to steal another kiss, and Kora leaned back, nearly falling back onto the cave floor.

“Whoa there!” She placed her palm over my face, blocking me as I nearly pushed her to the ground once again, eager to continue. “Give a girl a chance to breathe,” she said with a light laugh, and the sound nearly drove me crazy.

I took her hand in mine, and trailed my eyes over the cuts across her palms before licking the injuries as gently as possible. She nearly pulled her hand away but I kept her still and continued, dragging my tongue all the way to her fingertips.

“What are you doing?” Her voice came out a bit panicked, and I stopped.

“Cleaning your wounds.”

My answer surprised her. I searched her eyes for even the slightest sign of disapproval, or displeasure but found none. Returning my attention to her hand, I licked away at each and every cut as thoroughly and gently as possible.

Once I was done, I released her, and she inspected her hand. Her eyes returned to mine and we sat there, silently watching each other.

She turned her gaze away suddenly, and cleared her throat before speaking up. “We should, uhm, we should continue looking for a way out.”

I nodded, pushing to my feet.

Offering Kora my hand, she gladly took it. Standing back up, she inspected the cliff once more. “So how do we get up? I can’t exactly climb those jagged rocks with my hands all phuked up.”

Focusing my attention to the cliff, I thought about our options and came to a simple conclusion.

“I shall carry you.”

I tightened the strap keeping my spear secured to my back as Kora arched a brow in confusion.

“You need your hands to climb that wall. How do you expect to carry me?” I turned around and crouched down, giving her my back.

“Wrap your legs around my waist and your arms around my shoulders.”

“You gotta be kidding me.”

With a bit of hesitancy, she did as instructed, pressing her soft vulnerable front against my spine. I nearly shuddered at the feel of her small squishy frame being pressed so fully against my body as I stood up.

“Can’t believe I’m getting an alien peegy-back ride,” she mumbled.

My tail flicked around happily as I started my ascent up the stone wall. A small whimper escaped Kora as we moved higher off the ground. She held on even tighter, pressing her breasts and thighs against me as I climbed.

Taking a deep breath, I thanked the seven moons for such simple pleasures, and took my sweet time with the climb.
