Chapter 18

Carrie

I half expected Colton to be in bed with us when I woke up the next morning. I vaguely remembered feeling his hands on my legs last night, and slightly aware of extra body parts. I was too far gone to think much of it though. I never would have imagined, even in my wildest dreams, that my overprotective, possessive mate would invite someone into our bed, especially without talking to me.

At least, I was assuming it was our bed since he brought me here after the incident with Victor. We were mated, basically married in human terms, it was only fitting that we lived together.

I heard Deacon grumble to the late hour, well, late for us, and hold me tighter.

“Good morning, angel.” His voice was still rough with sleep.

“Morning? More like afternoon. I don’t remember the last time I slept this much.”

“You needed it. How are you feeling?” He was more awake and alert now.

“Better. A bit sore. Not sure I’ll be able to walk right away.”

Deacon’s eyes filled with mischief and my heart spun in circles. He was excited. It made me feel giddy. I laughed and rubbed my chest.

“This is going to take some getting used to.”

“Hmm.”

I was already losing him, he was kissing and licking my neck.

Oh. Oh. That was good too. A little lower and it would be even better. There we go. I shivered and sighed contentedly when he rolled us over, at the same time, possessing me in the way only he could.

I couldn’t say in only the way he had, because I had a sneaky suspicion that Colton was down there at one point too last night.

I remembered being upset with someone leaving and then someone else taking over. Don’t ask how I knew the difference, I just did.

I had planned on insisting that from now on, we not feed during certain activities. Instead, Deacon took advantage of his position and put his wrist to my lips. I forgot my argument the moment his blood touched my tongue. Seriously, the best flavor in the world. I would never be able to get enough of it.

When his fangs broke through my skin, I soared higher and higher.

I pouted when he disengaged from my neck and removed his wrist a short time later. Watching him lick his wrist did something to my insides. I had no idea what time it was before he pulled one of his shirts over my head again, put boxers on himself, and carried me out of the room.

Colton was there, wearing about as much clothes as Deacon, cooking breakfast.

“Good morning.” He called.

Deacon and I responded. Deacon’s was cheerful, while mine was more mumbled, my face heating up.

Seeing Colton like that reminded me of the up-close view I had the night before. Colton had very strong thighs, an eight-pack chest, with just the right amount of hair. And we won’t talk about what else I got an eye full of. And, if I was remembering correctly, a mouth full of.

As though it could feel my heated stare, his boxers twitched. I closed my eyes and shook my head. They both laughed.

Deacon set me on my feet near the kitchen, holding me in front of him. I turned and faced him, hugging him back. Which was a bad idea, this man looked even better. I felt a tingling in my chest and looked up to see him staring at me hungrily, like we hadn’t just spent the last hour together in bed.

I licked my lips, my skin beginning to feel like it was burning up again. He did this on purpose, I knew he did. And I was going to kill him when this passed. Deacon slammed his lips on mine with a low growl and backed me into a hard wall.

That’s what I thought it was at least, until the wall grew a sharp stick and began poking me in the back with it.

A pair of hands sprouted from the wall and slid up the shirt I was wearing. Soon I was feeling the wall without any barriers between us, nor were they between Deacon and me.

“Can’t…” I started, trying to tell them no.

“Can.” Deacon argued as he kissed down my neck, falling to his knees in front of me. Colton held one of my legs up, one hand on my chest, the other working with Deacon down below.

My skin didn’t start cooling again until we were all on the floor, lying in different directions, panting.

“Good call.” Colton said, lifting a fist to Deacon.

“I hate you both.” I grumbled, rolling over to crawl away from them.

I squeaked when someone grabbed my hips and pulled me back over to them. My yelp quickly morphed to something much better.

I wasn’t even thinking when someone else appeared on their knees in front of me. They barely had to push my head down before I took over. I was already starting to burn up again. The next thing I knew, I was being filled with heat from the top to the bottom.

Deacon’s was still the hottest. Colton’s was close but a few degrees off. My body shook from it as parts of them both flowed through me. As a result, I was heated from the inside a second time. They had both reacted to my shaking. Oddly, their heat cooled mine down.

I fell to Colton’s leg again, not having the energy to move away from him. Deacon crawled up behind me and helped me roll into his chest. Colton formed his body around mine.

“I still hate you both.” I told them.

They laughed. Jerks.

“No. You love me. And you like him. And you like doing this. So do we. So, why can’t we enjoy it? Enjoy each other?” Deacon reasoned.

“You purposely did the blood exchange this morning, knowing what it would do to me. Then you both trapped me and made it impossible to move away. You bloodwashed me!”

Colton rubbed a hand down my arm, and the heat began again. This was going to be one very long day.

“We helped you shut your brain off. That is all. Tell me you don’t want me here, sweetheart, and I will go. Not once have you said no.”

Yeah, because they wouldn’t let me. His hand was going down my outer thigh, then moved under my knee, lifting my leg. Still making it impossible for me to say it.

Deacon’s hand took over from there. “Say it, angel. Tell us you don’t want to do this anymore.” Soon he was kissing down the front, while Colton kissed down the back.

“Not. Fair.” I mumbled. My breath was coming out in pants, my skin on fire.

Colton lifted my leg all the way up and knelt behind me. Deacon continued kissing me. I gasped at the next feeling, my sore and extra sensitive body reacting beautifully to him. I tried to hold back the complaint when Colton moved away.

Judging by the laughs, they knew they had won.

I expected Colton to come back to me when Deacon took his place, instead he stood by Deacon. Who then did what I had done earlier. Colton’s hands were holding on to Deacon’s hair this time. Deacon didn’t give me much time to dwell on any of it, he made sure to pay just as much attention to me.

“Jerks.” I mumbled again.

They didn’t argue. Just sat on the floor, no one moving this time. When I could speak again, at least part way, I tried to clarify what was happening.

“You don’t share.”

“Normally, no. But he has been my best friend for hundreds of years. I trust him with you. There are still some things I won’t share. My seed is the only one that will get a chance to take root inside of you. And I am the only one who will share your blood, or their blood with you.”

“I am going to my apartment, finally, and showering. I will see you both downstairs.” Colton leaned down and kissed my head, where I laid on the floor, before leaving. “Good luck.” He told Deacon with a small chuckle, patting his back as he passed.

Once he was gone, Deacon crawled over me. “I’m sorry if you feel like we ambushed you this morning. It’s still your choice, angel.” I nodded, and one traitorous tear fell out. “I don’t understand these feelings. I am trying, angel. But I need your help, this is new to me too.”

I huffed and wiped at my eyes. “I’m not sure I understand them either. I love you. You are my mate. My soul. Why do I desire Colton as well?” There I said it. “I was raised in the human world. Where we are monogamous. Desiring someone besides your significant other is frowned upon. I don’t want to betray you.”

He balanced his weight with one arm and wiped my tears with his free hand. “Nor would I want to betray you. If it were anyone but Colton, I would have a problem with that. I was raised knowing that monogamy was only something between mates, and even then it was up to the couple. They do not sleep with others, but they have been known to invite someone to join them. Colton is the only other man, vampire, or human, that I have done this with. I’ve had no desire to do so with anyone else. I enjoy seeing his desire for you. I am proud of how perfect my mate is. I also like seeing how you react to him. Tell me part of you didn’t like watching him and I moments ago.”

I couldn’t. I wanted to, but I couldn’t. “I never have liked watching that before. Why would I like watching my mate with another man?”

I felt his leg push mine apart, then I felt something else much better.

“It’s not just anyone, it’s Colton. Normally, we will let you do that, but there are times when you might need a break from servicing two of us at once. And times where we might want to do it. You have to remember, angel. There are no Vampire Born females. The female Nightwalkers are not the same. They are as bloodthirsty and violent as the males. Yes, we use humans. No offense, but most humans are not able to handle us, let alone two of us.”

I laid my arms over his shoulders, my back arching. “I’m not exactly human though, am I?”

“No, my mate. You are not. Which gives me hope that one day, you will give me a son, and live by my side forever.”

We didn’t talk again for a while. We took things slower and reveled in the feeling of the two of us.

“I know you would probably like to shower, angel. But I love how much you smell like me right now. The hint of Colton mixed in adds a nice spice to it. The blend of the three of us is very satisfying to me. Something he and I both need after what happened yesterday.”

I nodded and walked like a newborn fawn to the bedroom. I had already started for the other apartment, but he informed me that they moved my clothes over the night before.

Deacon laughed at my imbalance and caught up to me to help. I pulled out a skirt and top from the new dresser, not paying attention to what they were.

“Aren’t you forgetting something, angel?”

I stopped and stared at the clothes I had just put on, then looked back at him. “No. I don’t think so.” Was I?

He chuckled softly and opened the top drawer, pulling out a thin strip of material. He held them up, a big grin on his face.

“Would you like me to help you put them on?”

I ripped them out of his hand and put them back in the drawer. “That would be counterproductive, dear. Besides, I didn’t forget them, I just chose not to wear them. After this morning, and last night, I’m more than a little tender. Those do not sound comfortable right now.”

Deacon growled like a hungry lion and looped a finger through the top of my skirt, pulling me closer.

“No.” I told him firmly, my finger in his face. Well, it was supposed to be firm.

Deacon knew he already had me. He pulled me to the bed and turned me to face it.

“I have been dying to do this since the first time I saw you in a skirt.” He pushed the skirt up and roughly took over my body again.

Needless to say, he had to carry me down the stairs.

By the end of the day shift, I told Deacon, in no uncertain terms, was he allowed to trade blood with me again during the day. My skin burned on and off the entire day. Which always affected him, and he had an even harder time controlling it. I blamed it on centuries of self-gratification. He was spoiled, plain and simple. And I blamed part of that on Colton, seeing as he had been by Deacon’s side for most of it.

As soon as the humans were out of the building, Deacon had me bent over a table. Colton thought it was hilarious. Until Deacon told him I was going to need more. Colton gleefully came over and sat on the chair next to the table, pulling me toward him.

My skin was slightly cooler by the time we finished.

Deacon had been right about the scent. The other vamps didn’t make comments or try anything. But their eyes were on me a whole lot more. Which led to Deacon feeling more possessive, which heated me up faster.

I slapped his hands off me many times. There were still some things I was not going to accept about vampire culture.

Like voyeurism.

I ended up having to ignore the feelings I had that were coming from Deacon. Which meant trying to ignore my own as well. It was getting easier, for me at least. I didn’t see how bad the problem was becoming until one of the customers winked at me. Deacon nearly lost it.

Colton had a grip on both his arms when I returned to the bar and told me I had to get him upstairs and help him work this out. That was when I let the feelings roll through me again, consciously. I thought he had only been responding to my own side effects of the blood trade. Looked like I was wrong.

“Ok, um. Block him.” I told him as I took off down the hall and up the stairs.

I had barely made it halfway when I heard loud laughter from the customers and a growl at my back. I tried to run faster, but a Vampire Born was the fastest there was. And with him taking my blood regularly, he was even stronger and faster than his own people.

He caught me with one arm around my waist. “Hold on.” He growled in warning.

I gripped the rails hard as he was a lot rougher than normal. Something I wasn’t complaining about. As soon as he was even remotely under control. He spun me around and lifted me up. He carried me to the bed, his lips not moving from mine.

When he came back to his senses, I again insisted on no more day trading.

“No promises, angel.” He laughed when I hit him in the chest. “How about, I promise to make sure it’s on a day when I can keep you in bed all day?”

I rolled my head to look at him. “When do we ever have a day free to spend in bed?”

He chuckled and kissed my forehead. “One day, love. One day.” I rolled into his arms and started falling asleep. “After everything today, I used a lot of energy. I am going to need to feed. Do you want me to wait until morning?”

“No.” I yawned. “You can do it now.”

“Hmmm. I think I should feed you first, heal your body after what I did to you today. It will help you sleep.”

“No.” He flinched back like I offended him. I gave him a small smile and placed a hand on his cheek. “I only meant that I don’t want you to put me to sleep like that. I will sleep fine on my own.”

He nodded and bit into his wrist. There was something about the way his warm blood flowed down my throat that heated me all over again. In an effort to not give into our desires, which were still slightly heightened, Deacon bit down into his other fist. I tried to reach for him, but he grabbed my hand and wouldn’t let me go.

The logical side of my brain understood, the other side did not.

When I finally released his wrist, I attacked him. He kissed me but refused to do more. Instead, he dove into my neck. That felt good enough to keep my inner demons at bay. At least until he finished. He pulled away and rested his forehead against mine. We lasted about one minute. Maybe.

I definitely did not need his blood to knock me out after that.

One of the benefits of sleeping naturally, I knew when Colton came in.

I vaguely heard the sounds of his clothes hitting the floor before he lifted the blanket and slid in behind me. I sighed as his body molded to my own. I also heard the soft chuckles next to me.

“I guess that means I can stay.”

Deacon snorted. “I told you it would be fine. How was the rest of the night? Sorry we didn’t come back.”

Colton laughed softly. “It was fine. They all got a kick out of watching you chase her. I swear Neil winked at her on purpose. Everyone could tell you were losing it down there. He laughed the hardest. Everything alright, now?”

I felt Deacon’s hand rub up and down my arm, as though he knew I wasn’t completely asleep.

“Yes. She wanted me to promise no more trading during the day. I don’t know what happened. I thought I had gotten away without whatever was affecting her, but the first time one of the humans looked at her too closely, I about lost it. Everything just got worse from there.”

“Trading blood like that is what you do when you are mating, you were already mated. And she is your fated. Maybe it just strengthened for a while. Did you feed again? This isn’t the time to get weaker.”

“Yes. We both did. I, uh, wasn’t very gentle once I caught her. She didn’t seem to mind, but I was worried I hurt her. It was very hard not to touch her, or her me. You know the effect feeding has on us. I nearly called you up here, but I wasn’t sure if that would have helped us avoid any repercussions. I couldn’t make the promise to her, but I did promise to wait for a day we can stay in bed. It was the best kind of torture.”

I felt my mate kiss my head and I burrowed deeper into his chest. I felt Colton’s grip on my waist loosen, like he was preparing to leave. Unthinkingly, I put my hand over his and held him there. I felt his body relax behind me and his grip tighten again.

“I told you.” Deacon said smugly. I wasn’t sure who he was talking to. Me or Colton.
