Chapter 28
Chapter 28 Slapping Jeremiah for Eric
I stood at the entrance of the hospital, assuming Jeremiah was bluffing and wouldn't resort to violence.
Dark malice flashed in his eyes, and he suddenly shoved Eric aside. Then, he grabbed my arm and dragged me away.
There was a flight of stairs ahead. I was caught off guard by his swift action, and before I could notice them, I missed a step. My foot slipped
Jeremiah happened to loosen his grip slightly. Just as I slipped from his
grasp, I heard a startled shout. “Jane!",
I was about to hit the ground when a strong hand grabbed my arm and pulled me back in the opposite direction. I collided
with a firm, warm chest. Shaken, I instinctively wrapped my arms around the person's waist, and my heart pounded as if it were going to lea Eric was briefly stunned. After a brief pause, he gave me soft pats on the back, and his voice carried a subtle gentleness. "You're fine now. I As I recovered from my shock, I shook my head and heaved a sigh of relief. Why was it that Eric was always the one to save me whenever As soon as I steadied myself, Jeremiah stormed over like a madman and forced us apart. He glared
at Eric with bloodshot eyes. "Let go! Hugging and being all lovey-
dovey right in front of my eyes, huh? Do you take me for a dead man?”
The thought of how he had let go came to my mind and sent a surge of anger through me. I didn't hesitate to slap him across the face. The sound of the crisp clap silenced the air around us.
Jeremiah stared at me
in shock. His face was a mix of disbelief and outrage over the slap he just received. “Did you just slap me for Eric?”
I met his gaze coldly and corrected him, saying, “This has nothing to do with Eric. It's for myself. You deserve this slap for everything you ow We wouldn't have ended up in this state if Jeremiah hadn't cheated.
I wouldn't have almost slipped if he hadn't insisted on dragging me away. And what mattered
most was that he let go of my hand at the most critical moment.
His earlier shout of concern now felt more like mockery instead.
Jeremiah wanted to speak, but I had no interest in hearing whatever he had to say. I turned and left with Eric without another word.
When the car pulled by the villa, Eric turned to look at me with dark unreadable eyes. “Are you okay?"
Feeling drained, I rubbed my temples and forced a weak smile. "I'm fine. Thanks for today. I'll head back now."
Ignoring the words he seemed about to say, I opened the door and got out of the car.
After a quick shower, I dried my
hair and lay in bed. But I couldn't sleep a wink. Once I closed my eyes, I saw Jack lying lifeless in a hospital bed. It was a scene from my pa In this life, I could ensure my parents' safety if I cut all ties with Jeremiah and stop Brown Group's
