Chapter 26
Chapter 26 Overhearing Rumors
Jack glanced at me. Under the pressure from Mom and Dad, he reluctantly muttered, “Fine, I guess I did wrong you. Guess? He did wrong me. Where was the "guess" coming from? How could he be this insincere in his apology?
I was about to speak when he continued, "What about you and Eric? I saw the two of you hugging with my own eyes!"
"Seeing isn't always about believing." A cold male voice came from behind me before I could retort.
I froze and turned to look at Eric standing at the door of the ward. It was quite a surprise. “Eric, what are you doing here?"
Eric strode in and calmly answered, "I'm here to visit a relative. I didn't expect to overhear someone spreading false rumors about me."
I raised an eyebrow, doubting his words. He happened
to be here visiting a relative the same time I was here. That seemed too much of a coincidence.
Eric ignored my skepticism and nodded politely at my parents in greeting. “Mr. and Mrs. Brown, what Jack mentioned was just a misunderst
Mom and Dad nodded in understanding. “So, that's what happened. Jae told us you're just friends, and
we trust her. She's not the type to misbehave."
Mom shot Jack a disapproving glare. “Did you hear that? It's all explained, so stop talking nonsense.”
The chastised Jack let out a disgruntled snort and was at a loss for words.
Seeing Eric sent Jeremiah's temper flaring almost immediately. He hopped in and snapped, “What about before that? Jane admitted that yo Halfway through his words, Eric cut him off sharply. “You're dumb, aren't you? She said that to piss you off, and you believed it. You believe Jeremiah's face turned ugly at Eric's blunt words, but before he could retort, Eric turned to Jack. ” And you, you're quick to pin blame on oth “And if I remember correctly, you've been putting effort into a partnership with Flint Group. I don't feel comfortable proceeding with any partr Jack's expression changed dramatically, and he panicked. “This is a family matter. What does it have to do with our partnership? I-” Eric coldly interrupted, “The small things reveal a person's true character.”
Eric left both of them speechless with just a few words. Watching the scene unfold was immensely satisfying.
I couldn't help giving Eric a mental thumbs-up, but something felt off. It
did seem he was protecting his reputation and interests, but I couldn't shake the feeling that he was protecting me.
Before I could ponder on it, Dad's stern voice pulled me back to reality.
“Jeremiah, after everything you've done to hurt Jae, what right
do you have to show up in front of her? That's enough. We're here for Elsa. We don't need an outsider like you. Now, leave!"
Dad issued a dismissal and called for security to escort Jeremiah out without giving him a chance to argue
With that, the farce was finally over. Feeling drained, all I wanted was to return home and take a nap.
But Mom grabbed my hand and beamed as she looked at Eric. "Mr. Flint, Jae has a fiery temper, but it's a blessing for her
to have a friend like you. She's told us how kind you've been to her lately. We're grateful for everything you've done. Come over when you'r
