Chapter 109 Sacrifice My Body
Elsa was startled by the intensity of my gaze and took a step back, hurriedly waving her hands.
"Jane, you've misunderstood me! It's a misunderstanding!" She looked at the phone I was holding, swallowing nervously.
Even though she was wary that I might upload the video, she wouldn't do something that would backfire on herself.
"Jack, it's true I embarrassed myself at the banquet. That's why I couldn't help but cry when I got home. It really has nothing to do with Jane."
Hearing this, Jack shot me a suspicious glance.
I met his gaze nonchalantly, smiling lightly. "Yeah, if it weren't for me today, she probably would've caused even more trouble."
I turned to Elsa, ignoring the flush on her face. "You agree, right?"
Elsa froze, her face alternating between embarrassment and awkwardness. Eventually, she ground her teeth and nodded. "Yes, I should thank Jane today."
I flashed a satisfied grin, then turned to look at Jack, who now looked angry. When our eyes met, he quickly looked away.
I asked, "Aren't you going to apologize after accusing me like that?"
He sneered, his eyes full of disdain, "Apologize? Even if you didn't bully Elsa today, how many times have you done it before? Maybe you were planning to bully her today, but fate intervened and helped her escape."
I stared at Jack in disbelief before mocking him openly, "Mom and Dad would've been better off with a pet goldfish than you. At least it wouldn't be so much trouble. Honestly, with the way you think, you'd probably be better off working as a mascot at a theme park than doing anything serious."
Jack's expression darkened with my mockery. Just as he was about to retort, Dad cleared his throat, instantly shutting him down.
"Enough. Why do you two always fight when you see each other?"
He turned to Jack, looking stern. "Apologize to Jane."
"Dad!"
Jack was upset. "Hurry up!"
Under Dad's stern glare, Jack finally lowered his head and muttered, "Sorry."
I didn't care about Jack's apology. I wasn't doing this for his apology. I just wanted to take him down a notch.
I turned to Dad. "Dad, you didn't call me here just because of Elsa, right?"
Earlier, when Dad had called, it wasn't because of Elsa. She had cried and caused a scene before, and they wouldn't have called me for something so trivial. There had to be another reason.
Hearing my question, Dad didn't respond directly but exchanged a look with Mom. Mom caught on and gently pulled me to sit down.
Mom said, "I heard from Elsa that many well-known designers didn't even get an invitation to the banquet. You not only got one, but you were also wearing a dress designed by Debbie, right?"
I nodded politely, then glanced at Elsa. She didn't dare meet my eyes.
"We know you want to start your own business, but remember, don't rush things. Protect yourself first. We're getting old, and this company will be yours one day. If it really doesn't work out, you can always come home and manage the company."
Dad nodded in agreement.
Looking at their concerned expressions, Jack's disdainful look, and Elsa hiding behind Jack while too afraid to look at me, I suddenly understood.
"Dad, Mom, you don't think I've sacrificed my body just to start a business, do you?"
Before Elsa could say anything, Jack shielded her behind him. "Even if Elsa doesn't say anything, we can tell! If you're going to do something, don't be afraid of people finding out about it!"
I looked up in confusion. "What exactly have I done?"
