Chapter 16

I chased after him. His heavy strides made me have to fully run after him. I finally caught up to him in the hallway. While standing in front of him, I placed both of my hands on his muscular chest that I could feel perfectly through his shirt. “Why did you walk away?” I asked. I didn’t know if he was mad at me or what.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He looked hurt.
“I could say the same thing about you and the war, but I’m not.” I defended myself. I know I wasn’t honest with him but he wasn’t exactly honest with me either.
“Now please,” I begged. “Why did you leave. Were you angry at me? Do you not like me because I’m a witch?” I asked. Anxiety and fear bubbled inside of me. What if he didn’t want me because I wasn’t a wolf. I didn’t want to be rejected by him again, even though it wouldn’t have affected me like before.
“No. I have no problem with you being a witch. But now on top of everything I caused you to lose your wolf which ultimately made you a witch.”
“Don’t feel guilty about my choices. Do you regret having your eyesight?” I asked.
He ignored my question, “How can I not feel guilty. After all the pain I put you through- now you lose your wolf which is a part of you.”
“It is not that bad. At first, I wanted my wolf back because I missed her, but I always had witch blood, so being able to practice magic has helped me forget about the pain.” I reasoned with him.
“That’s why I can’t feel the mate bond and why my wolf can’t talk to yours.” He was piecing it all together.
I nodded my head.
“Is that why you wanted a greenhouse too? I remember you asking for one and I assume it has something to do with witches.”
“Yes.” I gave him a short answer. “So you aren’t mad right?” I asked. I just wanted to make sure.
He shook his head, “I walked away because I felt a tremendous amount of guilt and I wanted to be alone at first. After everything we talked about, I can’t be mad.” At his words, I felt my chest relax. All the pressure that was on my shoulders was lifted and it was good to not have any secrets between us. It felt refreshing.
In a swift movement, he pulls me into a quick hug, “I have an idea that can benefit both of us.” He says after letting go.
My ears practically perk up at one of his ideas. This should be interesting especially if it benefits both of us.
“I think us talking has benefited our relationship for the better. I got everything off my chest like you did as well. I finally opened up with you.” He said. A small smile came to his lips.
“Thank you for that. I know it wasn’t easy. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through. I never would have imagined it was like that.” I cringed as I recalled the gruesome things he told me.
“And I’m sorry I put you through hell and back, but I think we need a break to start fresh. You could go see your family for a couple of days if you’d like. I know you miss them because it’s been a year since you saw them.”
My eyes lit up at his words. “Oh my god!” I squealed and jumped into his arms. I hugged his neck so tightly that he ended up having to pry me off.
I blushed and suddenly wanted to bury myself at my embarrassing act. “You don’t have to ask or wait for me to allow you to go Leah. If you wanted to see them you could have just let me know and I would have made it happen. You’re my equal and I want you to be happy.” He said. It felt like his words were too good to be true.
“I can’t wait! I can see Mom and my Dad. I haven’t seen Chris, Nick and oh my- Blake would be almost seven by now. Xena! And Mark, I miss him too!” I ranted on like a crazy person but I was cut off by a light growl.
“Who’s Mark?” Alec growled out in a possessive manner.
I laughed, “He’s one of my best friends relax.”
Alec just rolled his eyes, “Tell me about your old pack.” My eyes practically bulge out of my skull.
“Really?” I asked.
“I want the rest of the night to be just us. Tomorrow morning, I will have someone drive you to your old pack so have your stuff packed and ready, but I won’t be able to go.”
“I understand but can I bring two girls with me?” I asked.
“Who?”
“Christie and Alice.” I offered.
“Anything you want.” He kissed my forehead and led me to the living room.
We sat on the couch for two hours while I talked about my old pack and relationships with my people. I even told him about my normal high school experiences which Alec was intrigued with. Since Alec was an alpha he didn’t go to regular schooling like the rest. In a way, I kind of felt bad for him because he didn’t get to have the whole high school experience, but it was necessary.
“So prove to me that you’re a witch. Do something witchy.” He practically begged me.
I couldn’t help but he slightly offended, “Alec. Please don’t say witchy ever again.” I laughed and he joined in. The harmony of our laughing was like music to my ears. “But be careful what you ask for.” A devious little plan came to my mind.
We were facing each other on the couch so I scooted closer to me. I cupped my hands and traced over Alec’s hair, making sure to get all strands while muttering, “Iḷañcivappu.” It was becoming easier to do small spells and I was excited about that.
I sat back and snickered to myself when I was done. His eyebrows scrunched in confusion. “What did you do?” By then he had a feeling I did something- which I did.
“Pink looks good on you.” I complimented while giving him a playful smirk.
Alec quickly got up and went to the mirror in the living room. He looked at his reflection in horror and complete shock.
“Change it back now.” He demanded.
I bust out laughing at his appearance. His brown hair was replaced with bright pink hair. Quite honestly, I’m not sure if I want to change it back.
“Nah, I like it that color.” I joked.
“I’ll fucking dye it. Think I’m playing with this gay shit.” He glared at himself in the mirror.
“Hair dye doesn’t work.”
“Leah, I mean it. Change it back. I look fucking ridiculous.” He truly looked terrified that I was going to leave it. I laughed.
“Pōyviṭu.”
The pink faded from his hair. “Why don’t you do that to your hair?” He asked.
“What’s wrong with my hair?” I asked.
“It looks dull.” He said.
That’s the fiftieth time someone has said that. I possibly overexaggerated but it was frustrating. I would have to talk to Insuvai about that and see if there was anything I could possibly do to fix it.
Alec and I spent the rest of the time talking about anything and everything. Truly getting to know another was a good thing. I even got to know a little about Alec’s and Alice’s childhood. Apparently, they had a perfect life. Other than Alpha training and excessive exercising they were loved and well cared for. That was until the war happened. When Alec would mention his family he had a certain gleam in his eyes. “My Aunt Jenna wants to come soon.” He ended up mentioning. I told him that it would be lovely to meet her.
When night came Alec went to bed, but first I told him to toss me down my phone. I had to make an important call.
I dialed Insuvai’s number. A couple rings later and someone finally picked up.
“Hello.”
“Well hello, granddaughter. What a pleasant surprise.” I heard Velvezhi. My blood instantly boiled at the sound of her voice.
“Where is Insuvai?”
“She is busy at the moment try again later.” Velvezhi was about to hang up.
“Wait!”
“God child. What do you want?” She snapped.
“My hair.”
“Your hair?” She repeated.
I was lost for words. I wanted to hate her but I couldn’t because she was my grandmother. Even though she killed me, she did help bring me back to life. I just wasn’t expecting her to pick the phone up so she took me by surprise.
“Oh wait, I believe I know. Did you cut it yet?” She asked in a dull tone.
“Why would I cut it?” I asked.
“You’re pretty stupid to be my descendant. Think child, you were dead for how many months?” Her icy voice was like venom. “Cut it and let your hair grow back. I think Insuvai forgot to mention that part.”
“Bye, grandmother.”
“Leah.”
“What.” I held my breath and bite my tongue.
“Be careful. Something is coming your way but I can’t quite see it yet. It’s too blurry.”
