Chapter 62
Chapter 62
"Jaxon!" Winona was smart enough to understand the silent war between two men.
"Charge this card!" Jaxon took out a Gold Card from his wallet and handed it to the service staff
A meal costing around 180 thousand dollars wasn't expensive to him, but it didn't sit well with him because he felt like he was being taken for a ride by Carlos.
After getting in the car with Carlos, Mikayla was still th
"You seem to be quite happy, Mika, Carlos remarked.
thinking about what had happened just now
Mikayla didn't hide it. With a smile on her face, she responded, "Carlos, I'm glad I didn't choose to be enemies with you.
Seeing Mikayla's charming smile, Carlos had a strong urge to pull her into his arms. "Even if you were my enemy, I couldn't bear to hurt you." Leaning against his strong arm, Mikayla finally asked, "Did you know that the car was targeting me from the beginning!"
Josiah was holding the steering wheel and keeping his eyes on the road ahead in full concentration, but he could feel a sharp gaze piercing his back. He stiffened and mused. This has nothing to do with me!" Retracting his gaze, Carlos replied, "Yes"
"Promise me that you will let me handle my own affairs. I don't want to live like a bird in a gilded cage, Mikayla said, continuing inwardly. If the day you have to leave comes. I'm afraid I won't be able to fend for myself.
She couldn't bring herself to say the latter part out loud, but Carlos was smart enough to figure out what she meant.
"I know you want to protect me, but I think I can protect myself. I don't want to become a burden to you one day," she went on, meaning every word she said
"Okay, if you say so. But if I'm not around, Josiah must stay by your side Carlos caressed her hair, inhaling the fragrance.
"Okay" Mikayla promised.
Suddenly, Carlos raised the partition between the front and rear seats.
Confused, Mikayla looked into his eyes and saw a glint of passion in his gaze.
"Mika, I miss you! I want to kiss you. What should I do?" he said.
Makayla felt like the temperature had suddenly risen in the cramped space. Her cheeks were flushed pink all the way to her ears
Carlos observed Mikayla's bashfulness under the dim light. Her cheeks and ears were tinted red, and he could see the fuzz on her ears, which filled him with the urge to nibble on them.
Seeing the tipsy glaze in his eyes, Mikayla blocked him and said. "You're drunk?"
However, Mikayla's strength was no match for him. His lips met hers as she felt his large hand cradling her head. The mellow fragrance of red wine lingered on his moist lips. As he skillfully pressed against her tender lips, a smacking sound was made.
Mikayla lost all strength to resist and even felt a bit suffocated.
Just as things were about to spiral out of control, Mikayla reacted in time and managed to squeeze out a word while being kissed. "Carlos
The intense kiss gradually ceased, and when their lips ti
finally parted, Carlos asked in a hoarse voice, "Shall 1 walk you home?"
Mikayla, still in a daze from the kiss, took a while to recover and belatedly realized the car had stopped.
She mused. 'Damn it! I can't believe I didn't notice that! Was I so charmed by him that I lost my
"No need!" she said, opening the door, stepping out, and closing it behind her in one e swift motion, all the while mustering. "It must be the wine. It
must be it!"
She was gone in less than half a minute. Carlos, observing her adorable reaction and her reddened cheeks, couldn't help smiling.
He hadn't expected himself to lose control around her when he was usually calm and composed, thinking, I wonder how much longer I can wait until she willingly gives herself to me,

Lowering the partition between the front and back seats, he ordered in his usual cold, deep voice. "Back to the Ladwig mansion"
Rubbing his aching temples, he added, "You can stop investigating that matter now"
"Yes, sir," Josiah replied.
The next day was windless, but the cold persisted.
News of how fiercely protective Carlos was of his fiancée spread to every corner of Xos
Juliet was sitting in Brantley's office, waiting for his meeting to be over so they could have dinner together.
This was their first real date.
She had dressed up early and arrived in his office in advance, even making an early reservation at the restaurant.
Because of love, she even enjoyed waiting.
Feeling bored, she searched the shelf for a book but found only political philosophy and military literature. Those were sure to put her to sleep faster than any sleeping pill.
"Harvey, can you find me some celebrity gossip or fashion magazines?" Juliet called out to Harvey, who was delivering documents.
Tilask the female colleagues," Harvey responded with a flattering look on his face. As a man who spent most of his free time playing video games, he didn't know much about celebrity gossip or fashion.. "Never mind. Just refill my water, Juliet said, sighing
Ahhough she didn't go to work, she understood the workplace dynamics and didn't want her presence to disrupt anyone. She knew that Brantley was a workaholic.
"Right away!" Harvey replied before sprinting away like an errand boy. He was quite happy with Juliet's arrival. When he found out his boss had finally started dating Juliet, he was genuinely happy. After refilling Juliet's water, he left, closing the door behind him,
Juliet picked a random book from the shelf. After reading a few pages, she became drowsy and glanced at the time, noticing it was only three o'clock in the afternoon.
As soon as she set the book aside, she dozed off.
Just as she predicted, the book was a perfect sleeping aid.
It was nearly four o'clock when Brantley finished his meeting. When he returned to the office, he saw Juliet curled up on the sofa.
Although the heater was turned on, sleeping without a cover could still lead to a cold.
Brantley draped his jacket over Juliet and took a moment to observe her before he started packing up his things.
Grabbing his briefcase, he exited the office and gave Harvey a few instructions before leaving in a hurry.
Juliet was woken up by Harvey a while later. She looked at the time and saw that the regular working hours had long ended.
She opened her eyes drowsily. "Is your boss still in a meeting?"
"He was called away on a business trip and left around four o'clock. He told me to let you know that he'll have dinner with you when he gets back." Harvey said apologetically. Harvey, too, had been in love before, so he understood julier's feelings. She wouldn't have waited in the office for so long just for a meal.
Juliet waved off his concern. "It's fine. Don't sound like it's the end of the world!"
