REBORN UNDER THE FULL MOON

Chapter 110: Bargains & Betrayals

Kyle's POV

Occasional flashes of my growing tenderness and intense love for Lyra kept my spirit awake and afloat on my journey to Russia. I felt drawn to the country and I could only hope that natural order would pull us both back together.

Along the route to Russia, few miles before the Great sea separating the Eastern conglomerate from Russian provincial continent, my entourage was crossed by another. It could only mean two things; a fight, or an accord was to take place. I hoped for the former, as it would prepare me for my tournament, albeit at the expense of some of my men who would fall in the fight.

I came down and approached the blockade. Obsessed with fear if the unknown, I drew out my sword as I approached them.

"No need for that, Kyle, you'll lose your life faster than you think if you engage in a fight with us, " I heard a familiar voice call out in an Italian accent.

"Antonio!" I called out.

"Yes, my friend," he said as he came out, adjusting his hat to fit sideways, and rubbing his moustache.

"Can't call it a pleasure seeing you, but I must say, you never age, do you?" I remarked.

Antonio was a friend to my father, a cruel and deeply diabolic full werewolf. He never failed to claim that one day he would discover the secret of immortality. Being well versed in wizardry, he conquered all the neighbouring packs south of the Great River, where his pack is located. He prides his self as the Supreme Lord And Alpha of the South, making him the most popular figure in the entire south continent. Despite all these achievements, Antonio was not satisfied. He wanted to be immortal. He never wanted to die.

"Come stai il mio amico Zeus? how is his health?" Antonio asked in his Italian accent, letting out a well known laugh at the end, inspiring his entourage to join him in the laughter. To Antonio, asking about the health is a sign of mortality, which he hates. "Never better," I replied.

"Good, now, my friend, I need your help." Antonio said, ribbing his moustache and winking.

"What does the Great Antonio want from me? I'm a mere mortal," I replied, letting out my own laughter, but it soon died down as no one shared in it.

"We need to head to somewhere private, my friend,' he said, leading the way. I followed cautiously, signalling my men to ease up and least expect a battle.

"I'm one ritual close to immortality," Antonio said, with such boyish enthusiasm, revealing the general Italian method of revealing a top secret.

I tried my best to suppress a laugh of jovial significance. Antonio was indeed a man of imperious will.

"And how has that got to do with me?" I asked rather rudely.

"There is only one ritual to be performed by only one witch in our realm. She alone can transpose and coexist between the supernational and physical at the same time and return flesh and blood. She, my friend, was last spotted in your region. Information reaching me made it clear that she served Zeus wholeheartedly, now it her turn to serve a greater purpose," he explained, all the while demonstrating like a true Italian.

"Hmm," I sighed. Involuntarily trying to mimic his expressions, I rubbed my tiny moustache.

"I can't help you, Antonio," I said finally.

"Reasons?" Antonio asked in a hurting tone. He hardly gets a no for an answer by men.

"Well, to get to the witch, I have to go through Zeus, and......" I stretched my last sentence, rubbing my forehead with my palm.

".....we kind of have a lot of work to tidy, or we both would kill ourselves the next time we meet. I just can't see him at the moment," I concluded, looking him straight in the eyes.

"

Hmm, what shall I offer you to swallow your pride and differences? huh? gold, how much? silver? what size? the most beautiful ladies in the world? Half my empire!!!, name your price, friend?"

On a first thought, I wanted to request that he helps me to find Lyra, but I greatly surpressed the urge. Antonio, was an ally to Zeus, and I'm pretty sure that Zeus always had men act as spies around Antonio, as he suspects friends much more than foes.

"I'm sorry, Antonio. I can't help you at the moment," I said, turning to leave.

"You're making a wrong decision, my friend," he said.

"I'm sorry, Antonio, but I have a personal assignment, Zeus is the problem, and not you," I said taking steps away from him. "Kyle, my friend, this day shall be remembered for time to come, as the day you refused to help the Great Antonio," he said.

I turned back to him, he evinced his displeasure by a grim scowl.

"I wish I could have been of help, but Zeus must be out of the picture for me to succeed in this mission," I explained, facing him and taking steps backwards.

"And also, of you finally perform the ritual, do well to give me a call; I'd love to attend your 'immortalization' ceremony," I said, chuckling.

He gave a contemptuous sneer, cursing under his breath.

I went back to my men, and hurried along, towards Russia.

Lyra's POV

"Would you imagine how he stalked my throughout the day, jumping in like a hero whenever I had the slightest cough," I explained to Amira.

"Take a chill, Lyra, it's all for love, all for love," Amira replied absentmindedly. Her gaze were intense on the wall opposite us.

"Hmm, Dave at work again, I see, what did he do this time?" I asked.

"David needs our help, your help," she replied.

"Yes, sure he does," I chipped in sarcastically. She gave me a knowing look, I immediately dropped the brush in my hands and sat down with her.

"So, what's so serious?" I asked her, in harmony with the look on her face.

"Dave showed up here yesterday, genuinely repentant, and trying to start a new chapter with me. He explained the ordeal he has been going through with his heart and choices. He claims that there is a force that constantly surpresses his love for me whenever Naomi is around, but it immediately lifts up in her absence," I explained.

I gave her that knowing look, the kind suggesting that it's one of men's old tricks at work again.

"Yeah, I know what you think, I thought so too, but I believed him. I did. I don't know why, but I did. I ask for nothing much, Lyra, just an audience with him, and probably you might decipher if he's under...."

"...a spell or not," I cut her short.

"Exactly," she replied.

"I'll do that, for you, but there's a secret I want to share with you first," I said to her.
