Chapter 24: "Really"

I woke up early in the morning like I always do. I decided that getting some food might be better than just sitting in bed. I was my face and brush my teeth before heading downstairs to the kitchen. When I finally got down to the kitchen my father and grandparents were already up. They all hold a half empty blood bag in their hands.

“Morning Anglia.” They all said in unison.

“Morning, I guess waking up in the morning is a vampire gene?” I ask them walking to the fridge.

“Mostly, sometimes we just don’t sleep.” My dad said.

I walk over standing next to my grandmother with a bottle of water and an orange. The blood bags had magically vanished from their hands. Looking at all of them I start peeling my orange.

“If I’m three-fourth vampire then why don’t I crave blood?” I ask them.

“There’s no if about who you are Anglia.” My dad told me looking me straight in the eye.

I stare right back setting my orange peel on the counter. I heard the irritation in his voice and see it in his face. I let it drop looking over to my grandfather.

“You grew up eating human food all your life, especially when you was a baby. Only full blood vampires crave blood after becoming of age.” He told me.

I nod my head in understanding, plopping an orange in my mouth. I know I can’t be the only one out there in the whole wide world. By the sound of it, it’s must be rare for vampires and hampires to mingle. I wonder how my parents met and how it lead up to them marrying each under. I saw the love and friendship they have for each other last night. The one I always prayed for.

“Anglia, let’s take a walk in the woods. You can catch up with your grandparents later.” My dad said walking out the kitchen.

I stare at him with a confused look before looking to my grandparents. Both of them were in the middle of rolling their eyes. I got the gist that my dad is one of those people that think they own the world.

“Go sweetie and talk to your dad.” My grandmother told me with a smile.

“Fine, but he better start losing that attitude,” I told them grabbing my water bottle.

I wave bye to them before heading after my dad. I walk through the living room grabbing a random jacket on the coat rack near the front door. I walk out the house finding him waiting for me on the porch. I close the door behind me before sliding the jacket on. He turns to look at me nodding for me to follow him.

“Why can’t you give your mom a chance? Your treating me better than you do her, and we barely know each other.” My dad asks me leading me around the house.

I look over to him sliding my hands into my coat pocket. I wasn’t quick to answer this time. What he’s saying is true, I barely know him and I’m treating him better than my mom. Who raise me to be the women I’m today. Maybe I’m not looking at the big picture, but just the part I want to see.

“She could have gone at all of this a different way. She never loses you dad, but I had to.” I told him finally.

“I should have never left you or your mom in the first place. You know for six months your mom didn’t have a clue to where I went.”

“Really?” I ask him.

He nods his head reaching out to move a hanging branch aside motioning for me to continue. I walk through as recognition flow over me at the scenery. A huge waterfall stood before me, it’s mist hitting my face. I walk closer as a smile come to my face. The clear blue water flows down the rocks to the pool below. I remember always jumping off this cliff we stood on now into the pool below. We always come here the last day of the trip.

We didn’t say anything for a moment, Just taking in the scenery around us. I look over to him letting out a deep breath.

“Fine, I’ll talk to mom when we get back. Dad, abandoning people you love is not going to help them…it hurts.” I told him.

“I’ll keep that in mind.” He said with a smile.

I turn to face the waterfall breathing in the fresh air. My dad senses it before I did, pushing me behind him before throwing the vampire off the cliff into the water. I look up to find two more coming at me. I duck low from one of them as my dad tackle the other one. I quickly kick the vampire over the cliff before he regains his composure. An arm grabs me around my neck pushing me to the ground. I look up into the red eyes of a vampire. I buck him off of me rolling over to a stand. He jumps at me punching me in the face before kicking me in the stomach. I counteract his second punch twisting his arm behind his back.

“Stop!” A very familiar voice yelled out.

I turn to look into the eyes of the vampire in the parking garage. He had my dad in an arm hold. A smirk spread across his face as his arm tightens around my dad’s throat. I look into my dad’s eyes seeing exhaustion and a little fear into his eyes.

“I thought you were dead?” I said looking up into the vampires red eyes.

“Dead no. Knockout for a while yeah. I’m guessing you weren’t taught properly how to stake a vampire.” He said with a smile.

“Oh, really now,” I said under my breath.

“Now you have a choice of coming with me willingly and I won’t kill your father here.” He said pointing to my dad. “Or we kill him and the rest of your family and still take you with us.”

“How do I know you won’t hurt them if I come with you?” I ask him.

“Anglia.” My dad croak out.

“Be quite a dad. I promise that I won’t touch anyone.” He told me.

I look to my dad with an apologetic look. I can see it in his eyes that he didn’t want me to go with him, but it’s the only way to keep everyone safe. I stare into my dad’s eyes telling him that everything will be fine. I let the guy I was holding go raising my hands into the air. Hands grab mines roughly twisting them behind me. I felt cold metal clasp around my hands tightly, thinking it handcuffed.

“Let’s go.”

I pushed forward walking towards my dad and the vampire. The vampire let my dad go pushing him to the ground. Before I could say anything he knocks my dad over the head knocking him. I tried going to him as my dad felt to the ground, but whoever was holding me pulled me back.

“I thought you said you weren’t going to touch him!” I yelled.

“I can’t have him coming after us before we get a head start. Plus, we haven’t left yet so I haven’t broken my promise yet. Now we better get going.” He said motioning for me to follow him.

I look back to my dad before following after him reluctantly.
