Chapter 269
Chapter 269 Devouring Five Bagels
Eileen switched off the light, unsure if he had left or not.
Terrified that he might actually leave, she put on her pajamas and went to the master bedroom next door.
No sooner had she laid down than the person beside her moved closer, embracing her from behind. A relaxed, casual voice
sounded in her ear. “Where have you been?”
Eileen answered somewhat absentmindedly, “I didn’t want to wake you, so I took a shower in my room. Go back to sleep.”
“Mmm.” Jasper, soothed by her pleasant scent, quickly fell back asleep.
Eileen reached out and turned off the lamp on the bedside table. Immediately, the entire bedroom was plunged into darkness.
With her eyes closed, she forced herself not to overthink. Considering Eric’s current capabilities, he wouldn’t dare to confront the
Smith family. In the future, I will become Jasper’s wife, and there will be absolutely no further entanglement between us.
Although she truly feared Eric’s threats and tricks, she was certain that things from the past wouldn’t continue.
She couldn’t let him continue to threaten her repeatedly.
Before she knew it, sleepiness overcame her, and she quickly drifted off to sleep.
The following day at dawn, the remnants of the morning glow descended.
Eileen stretched lazily. As she peeked out from under the blanket, the first thing she saw was a man with a smile playing on his
lips.
“Good morning.”
Eileen replied, “Good morning.”
“It’s getting late. Time to get up?”
“What time is it?”
“Twelve o’clock.”
Eileen hadn’t expected to sleep in so late. “What time did you wake up? Why didn’t you wake me?”
“My future wife can afford to be lazy and sleep a little longer. I’ll get up first to squeeze out the toothpaste for you. Remember to
change your clothes.”
Eileen said, “Okay”
After Jasper changed his clothes, he squeezed out some toothpaste for her. Handing it over, he noticed the bluish hue under her
eyes reflected in the mirror. “Do you think we should consult a psychiatrist? You were talking in your sleep all night.”
Eileen paused in brushing her teeth. “What did I say?”
Jasper embraced her from behind, his arms wrapped around her waist. He lowered his head to kiss her neck, murmuring, “I
forgot. I didn’t hear clearly”

“Really? I can’t even remember what dream I had last night.” Eileen spat out the toothpaste foam, quickly finished brushing her
teeth, took the towel he handed over, and wiped her mouth. “By the way, is Natalie better? Let’s go to the hospital to see her
later.”
If it hadn’t been for Natalie pushing her away at that time, she would have been the one lying injured in the hospital.
“All right. I’ll accompany you later.”
After what happened the day before, Jasper wouldn’t dare to let her go out alone anymore.
For her, being alone was too dangerous. He wouldn’t be at ease.
That day, Jasper took a rare day off and personally drove his car.
Upon arriving at the hospital, an unnatural glint flashed in Eileen’s eyes. Why is it this hospital?
Fabian walked out of the hospital’s main entrance. “Hi, Mr. Smith. Hi, Ms. Eileen.”
Is Fabian still in the hospital? Could he have been busy all night? Eileen was confused.
Upon entering the inpatient department’s elevator, Fabian pressed the button for the floor.
Jasper asked, “How is the situation being handled?”
“It’s almost done. The vagrant from last night is indeed the murderer the police have been hunting. He’s been responsible for the
assault and murder of numerous students over the past six years. Recently, he’s been lurking around the entrances of various
universities, specifically targeting students who are alone,” Fabian said.
Eileen was bewildered when she heard that. Oh? Is that it? But why would Eric want to harm him? I don’t believe it’s to help the
police catch someone. It clearly seemed like he wanted to put someone in a deadly situation. Why would Eric have a grudge
against him, to the point of having Lionel personally apprehend him?
Eileen brought a bouquet of sunflowers purchased from the shop she frequented. By the time she got there, it was the last bunch
left.
In the ward, Natalie’s family was present, and Benjamin and Jason had not left either.
Natalie was munching on an apple and a peach simultaneously. Seeing her hearty appetite, it seemed her worries were
unnecessary. However, seeing that she was fine, Eileen also felt relieved. Towards Natalie. Eileen felt not only gratitude but also
guilt.
Upon spotting Eileen at the door, Natalie’s eyes lit up with joy. “Eileen!” she exclaimed, her happiness
evident.
Jasper didn’t like crowded places, so he and Fabian decided to wait outside.
Eileen walked into the ward, seeing a couple in front of her, one plump and the other thin. For a moment. Eileen couldn’t tell at all
who Natalie resembled.
Wade Scott, Natalie’s father, said, “You’re here to see Natalie, aren’t you?”
Eileen nodded. “Yes.”
Pauline Rich, Natalie’s mother, uttered. “You guys chat then. Her father and I are just about to go

downstairs to grab a bite. Have a good talk.”
“All right.”
Wade and Pauline stepped out of the ward, and Eileen overheard their whispered conversation.
Pauline was heard saying, “How was this child raised? How did she grow up to be so pretty? She doesn’t look like Natalie at all.
Natalie can eat five bagels in one sitting. Frankly, Natalie looks like a bagel herself!”
Wade was heard saying, “Isn’t that the truth? Thankfully, we’re not poor. The average family wouldn’t be able to afford to buy her
food.”
Natalie’s face fell instantly. “Mom, Dad, I heard everything. As soon as you speak, they all know I can eat five bagels.”
Jason stood to one side, chuckling quietly to himself.
The couple, in a puff of smoke, quickened their pace and left immediately.
Eileen sat by the hospital bed. “Well, you’re quite adorable when you’re a bit chubby.”
Jason couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Exactly! Who among ordinary people could eat five bagels in one sitting?”
Sobbing uncontrollably, Natalie turned to Eileen and said, “Eileen... They’re all laughing at me.”
Jason added, “It’s not just me who’s laughing, the person next to me is also laughing.”
Benjamin had always been serious, not one to joke or laugh easily. However, at that moment, it seemed as if something had
amused him, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Eileen set aside the flowers and reassured Natalie, “They won’t reveal your secret. You guys must be exhausted after taking care
of her all night. You should go home and rest early. I’ll stay here and keep an eye on things.”
Benjamin glanced at his phone to check the time. “Yes, that works. I have some matters to attend to at home. I’ll leave the rest to
you. Thanks.”
Jason left with Benjamin.
Eileen continued chatting with Natalie in the ward. After more than an hour, the doctor and nurse came to check Natalie’s
physical condition. Her neck was wrapped in gauze, and when it was unwrapped, the wound had already scabbed over and was
not a major concern.
The doctor reassured Natalie, “Actually, there’s nothing to worry about. You’re healthy in all other aspects. Once the fees are
settled, you can be discharged.”
Natalie replied, “Okay. Thank you, Doctor.”
The fees had already been paid by Jasper to Fabian a long time ago.
Wade was having a friendly chat with Jasper. Meanwhile, Eileen stepped forward and opened the passenger door for Natalie.
“Go home and rest well Your exams are coming up. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to call me.”
Before leaving, Natalie gave Eileen a tight hug Eileen, remember to come visit my home in the future I
34
will miss you.”
Eileen responded, “I definitely will.”
Watching them leave, Eileen was far from feeling at ease.
Jasper walked over and took her hand. “If you’re still worried, we can visit the Scott residence in a couple of days.”
“Maybe it’s best not to disturb her...”
Just as they were about to leave, Eric helped Vera out of a black car. Her arm was wrapped in a towel, and she leaned weakly
against Eric, looking frail and thin.
