Chapter 330
This was her mother, after all, and no daughter would be willing to see her parents go through such pain and suffering.
Wendy would get tearful every time she came in and saw her mother lying there.
Naomi could understand how Wendy felt. Her grandfather had been admitted to the hospital a few years ago in a critical condition. Just not long ago, her own mother had developed some health problems of her own. Therefore, she could understand how worried and anxious Wendy felt.
"There are always highs and lows in life. This is an obstacle that Grandma has to pull through. She'll be fine once she pulls through. There's nowhere else to go but up," she said to Wendy.
Any ordinary person would tell her not to worry and that Grandma would be fine, but Naomi's words hit differently. Wendy could not help stiffening in shock when she heard this, but she soon snapped out of he stupor and nodded. "You're right, Naomi. This is simply a temporary obstacle for Charles' grandmother. She'll be fine once she pulls through."
Then, she turned Mrs. Charlotte and said hopefully, "Hear that, Mom? You have to get well soon. Look, this is Charles' friend who came to see you. She's a kind young lady."
Naomi gazed at the old woman on the bed. All of the hair on her head had turned white. Although she appeared frail, she had a kind face. Naomi silently prayed for Charles' grandmother to get better and regain her health soon.
Charles stood next to Naomi and stared quietly at his grandmother. Finally, he thought to himself, 'You have to get better soon, Grandma. I'll bring Naomi over to visit you next time, and hopefully the next time she comes, she'll come as my girlfriend.'
This was his greatest wish.
They were not allowed to linger in the ICU for too long, so the three of them came out after about half an hour. The moment they emerged from the room, Wendy glanced at the time and turned to Naomi. "It's already lunch, Naomi. Why don't you come to our house for some lunch and get some rest?
"Charles told me that you arrived very late last night and didn't get much sleep. I've already cleaned out the guest bedroom for you, so you can stay there for as long as you like. San Angelino is our home, and we welcome you here."
Naomi replied calmly, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Ward, but I need to go see my friend who's staying in one of the wards downstairs. I need to take care of her, so unfortunately I'll have to turn you down. Thank you for you offer, though."
Wendy froze. "Your friend..."
She then turned to Charles, waiting for an explanation. Although Charles had already told her about Amelia's hospitalization, she still desperately wanted Naomi to come over to their place so she could get to know her properly.
Charles met his mother's gaze and replied, "Mon, Amelia's downstairs, remember? Even though we have a nurse taking care of her, Naomi's still worried about her. Besides, she needs to return to Herland tomorrow and she wants to spend as much time as she can with Amelia."
He did not want to force Naomi to go against her wishes.
Wendy furrowed her brows and glanced at Naomi. "So soon, my dear? Why don't you stay a couple more days in San Angelino? You haven't had the time to explore this city." Wendy clutched Naomi's hand rather sadly.
Naomi replied, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Ward, but I've some things to attend to in Herland, so I must leave tomorrow. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll get a chance to visit San Angelino again soon."
Naomi had already made up her mind, and no one could convince her otherwise.
As upset as Wendy was, she knew she had to respect Nomi's wishes.
Charles piped up, "It's fine, Mom. I promise I'll bring Naomi over in the future again. You should go home and get some rest. Naomi and I will pop by to visit Amelia, then I'll come home."
Wendy knew that she could not
possibly force Naomi to stay, considering she was already under a lot of stress. over Amelia's situation, so she had no choice but to nod and agree. Alright then. You have to come to San Angelino again, Naomi, and perhaps pay a visit to Willowstown, too. Do you know Willowstown? My hometown is in Willowstown, and I'll gladly show
you around if you ever visit there."
Naomi froze.
