Chapter 292
The moment Naomi got out of the car, she felt her phone buzz with a message. She glanced at the screen and saw it was Charles.
After the call with Charles, she received a message from Charles telling her not to worry as Sean would take care of everything and make sure Amelia was alright.
Naomi had not told Charles about Amelia's whereabouts. For one, she did not think it was necessary for him to know where she was, and secondly, she did not want to trouble him any further, especially knowing he had some personal issues to take care of too.
Naomi was slightly surprised to see Charles texting her again, so she clicked on the message.
[Charles: Naomi, I'm on the plane right now, and we're about to take off soon. I've already tried to call Sean, but I can't get through to him. He's probably trying to settle everything on Amelia's side, so don't worry. Get some rest. Sean will take care of everything. I'll have to turn off my phone for the next hour or so, but I'll be accessible once I land. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything, or text me if you prefer that. Don't feel bad about troubling me. It's no trouble at all.]
This was one of the longest text messages Charles had ever sent her. Clearly, he was still worried about her.
Naomi's expression softened as she typed a reply.
[Naomi: I will, Charles. Try to get some rest too. Don't worry about rushing back here. I can settle Olivia's lawyers myself.]
Charles had told her that he would try to make it back the next morning so that he could go to the police station to meet Olivia's lawyer with her. However, Naomi could understand if he could not make it, now that he had something urgent to take care of.
Naomi glanced at the time. There was still an hour until her flight. By the time she arrived in San Angelino, it would be two or three in the morning. There was no telling how Amelia's condition would be by the time she arrived.
Naomi decided not to waste any more time, so she headed straight to the check-in counter and went through the security clearance. Then, she made her way to the boarding gates to await boarding. At the same time, Sean was frantically trying to get in touch with the doctor who had sent Amelia to the hospital. He did not rest until Amelia arrived at the hospital and was sent to the emergency room. He finally calmed down when something occurred to him.
He had to call Naomi to update her about Amelia's situation.
He immediately dialed Naomi's number.
At this time, Naomi was already boarding. She handed her boarding pass to the air stewardess as she picked up Sean's call. "Hi, Sean."
"Naomi, are you on the plane?"
"I'm boarding right now."
"Good. Amelia's arrived at the
hospital and the doctors have sent
her into the emergency room. The doctors think she's got food poisoning, but it's a serious case."
"Okay. Which hospital is she at? I'll head there immediately after I arrive."
"San Angelino City Hospital."
"Thanks, Sean."
Sean was about to ask Naomi if she knew Charles was headed to San Angelino as well, but he stopped himself and instead said, "I'll keep an eye on here. Don't worry. Try to get some rest on the flight. It's probably about 1 a.m. now, right? Try to get some sleep, and I'll call you again once you land."
"Don't worry, Sean. I'll call you once I land."
"Alright then. Have a safe trip and rest well."
"Thanks."
With that, Naomi made her way to her seat and sat down. She glanced at the time. It was already 1 a.m., but she did not feel even an inkling of exhaustion.
Her mind was still on Amelia. She
could not believe Amelia had
suffered such a serious case of food poisoning. It probably had
something to do with her extremely busy and inhumane schedule. She was always so busy working that she neglected her health Content
Naomi turned off her phone and buckled her seatbelt. Then, she asked for a blanket from the air stewardess and dozed off. She knew she needed to get some sleep. The plane took off at exactly 1:20 p.m.
The sound of the plane engine weaved its way into Naomi's dream. The plane soon took off and disappeared into the night.
