Chapter 1980
...
The staff members of Windy Cartoon went out to have a dinner to celebrate.
Though Mia was one of the first batches of authors, she contacted others online. Except for Dan, Windy Cartoon's boss, no one had seen Twilight in person.
This time, she showed up, and everyone was very excited.
Then Dan organized a gathering for staff members of Windy Cartoon.
The clock on the wall showed that it was 11 p.m. Desmond didn't want them to think he was mean to Mia, so he held back his urge to call her. Thus, when the doorbell rang, he rushed towards the entrance. He opened the door, but Dan was standing at the door.
Mia was carried behind his back, her eyes slightly closed and her cheeks a little scarelet. There was even a large man's coat on her back!
Seeing this scene, Desmond silently clenched his hand.
He knew that they considered each other as siblings, but they were not related by blood.
Desmond couldn't help feeling displeased.
He frowned as he smelled a faint smell of alcohol in the air.
He looked a little gloomy. "Did she drink wine?"
Dan tilted his head and looked at the quiet Mia. He didn't smile, but his eyes sparkled with joy. "It's just a small glass of beer. Don't worry. I know how much she can drink. She fell asleep on the road, and I just couldn't bear to wake her up."
Desmond's face darkened.
He reached out and took Mia from his back.
Mia slept very soundly. When Desmond held her in his arms, she clasped her hands around his neck and pressed her little face against his neck - she seemed to have felt the familiar scent from him. Dan's eyes narrowed slightly.
Desmond raised her in his arms and said with a delighted smile, "Thank you for sending her back."
"You're welcome." Dan smiled back.
When Desmond nodded and was about to bring her in, Dan stopped him. "Is it convenient for us to have a chat?"
The door of the villa was closed.
Under the dim light, they stood on each side of the door.
After sending Mia back to the bedroom, Desmond helped her put on her pajamas, covered her with a blanket, and walked to Dan.
He handed over Dan's coat in his hand.
Dan took it over and said with a smile, "Windy Cartoon is the first company I founded after graduation. At that time, I saw the potential of the cartoon industry. Mia showed her outstanding talent in music and art since she was little. After knowing my thoughts, she became a comics author to support me and accompanied me to make Windy Cartoon a successful company."
Desmond's expression changed slightly.
Last time he was surprised to see them in Windy Cartoon. He was especially startled when seeing Mia there.
It was not until that day that he knew Dan was the boss of Windy Cartoon.
Desmond narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp. "You like her?"
Dan did not answer directly but asked back, "What do you think?"
Desmond no longer appeared relaxed when their eyes met, and his wicked smile also faded.
Dan said slowly, "We grew up together. She was the little girl living next door and an important person in my life. I suppose Mia has the same feeling toward me. She has been accompanying me to build up Windy Cartoon, and I've accompanied her in each violin competition abroad. I even helped her to choose her major and college."
These were things that Desmond had never participated in, nor had he ever known.
Unconsciously, he clenched his hands, his hand veins bulging. Somehow, he got tensed up.
At this moment, Dan suddenly asked, "Do you want to know why she would marry you?" Desmond had asked Mia this question.
How did she answer him? Well, she said it was because he was very handsome.
Under his gaze, Desmond felt depressed, his Adam's apple moving slightly. "Why?"
Dan paused for a moment and asked, "You had a car accident, didn't you?"
Desmond looked surprised. "How did you know that?"
He had only met Dan three times, so he thought they didn't know much about each other.
Dan explained, "The car accident
happened in the countryside. A truck that had finished its farm work lost control. Just when it nearly hit a girl, you passed by and saved her. Thanks to you, she was intact, but you were seriously injured.
Desmond nodded.
Dan was right. He had indeed encountered such a car accident.
At that time, he was forced to accompany Mr. Borbon to visit his old friend in the countryside. He couldn't stay inside with elders any longer so he ran out alone. Then he happened to encounter this car
accident and saved Mia.
It could be regarded as a moment of glory in his life.
Desmond remembered this matter clearly. After all, his breastbones and leg bones were broken, and he had been lying in the hospital for half a month. Dan's voice dragged him out of his memory. "The girl you saved is Mia."
Desmond suddenly looked up.
He felt suffocated as if someone was trying to strangle him, his eyes full of churning emotions.
A faint smile appeared on Dan's lips, and he looked at him meaningfully. "Mr. Chadwick taught Mia well. She is grateful and sympathetic."
Desmond's face gradually froze.
At dusk, the city shrouded in sunset clouds was as beautiful as a painting.
Mia looked at Desmond beside her in the commercial car moving at a constant speed. He didn't look at her but looked out of the window, his eyes unfocused. She felt that Desmond had become a little silent recently.
He would become absent-minded from time to time. Even Sabine at home had asked her with concern if he had been too busy with work recently. Desmond had been busy at work these days. He seemed to work overtime every day. Most of the time, Mia had fallen asleep when he came back. Only in the dreams could she feel his hugs and kisses.
Therefore, she was elated that Desmond had come home to pick her up early today.
Mia reached out and grabbed his hand gently. "Desmond, what's up with you?"
Desmond withdrew his gaze and
Vel.net
tilted his head to look at her. The sunset glow tinted his charming facial features. He looked as attractive as those mischievous male comics leads with a slightly wicked smile on his lips.
He whispered, "Hmm?"
Mia was a little lost in his smile, her heart racing uncontrollably.
Every time he looked at her intensely like this, she could not resist his charm.
Mia blushed slightly and asked, "Where are we going?"
Desmond said with a smile, "Shelton invited a group of friends, no strangers, saying he'd like a gathering. He especially asked me to take you there!"
Hearing this, Mia nodded in embarrassment.
She had a good impression of Shelton, who was easy to get along with, so she'd like to attend.
The venue for their gathering was the entertainment club they often visited.
Just like what Desmond had said, no bar girls were there. Apart from Desmond, only two men brought their girlfriends.
Halfway through the meal, Mia said to Desmond, "I want to go to the bathroom."
Desmond put down the wine cup in his hand. "Do you need me to accompany you?"
Mia wanted to say yes. But when she looked at the others on the table, she was afraid that they would laugh at her. So, she shook her head and said, "No. I can go by myself!"
Desmond nodded, but his gaze followed behind her.
Shelton couldn't help laughing.
