Chapter 1291
In the afternoon, the sun was shining brightly.
In the consulting room on the orthopedics floor of the private hospital, Anthea stood there in a white gown. Eric was sitting on a chair, and next to them was an orthopedic physician who treated his wound. Anthea asked, "Hannah, how is his wound?"
Hannah, the orthopedic physician smiled and said, "He's fine. Don't worry! His bone fracture is not serious, but he should continue using the splint to support the broken bone for a week. Let's see how it recovers by then!"
After changing the fresh dressing for the wound, Hannah fixed the splints with the bandages.
According to the condition of his recovery, Hannah prescribed him some anti-inflammatory drugs.
"Thank you, Doctor Wadley!" Eric said thanks and then looked at Anthea. "I can deal with it myself.
Thank you for coming to accompany me. Will I delay your work?"
Anthea smiled and shook her head. "It's okay. I'm not busy now!"
In fact, she felt sorry for him.
Although she was not the one who hit him, she felt that she had something to do with this.
Eric did not understand what she was thinking. He only thought that she was so nice to him. Deeply touched, he said, "Anthea, tonight you..."
Before he could finish, her cell phone rang.
It was a call from the hospital. After Anthea picked it up, she heard Mila say, "Hello, Director Lee, someone from the nurse station is looking for you!"
"Who?" Anthea was confused.
"Come over and you'll know!" Mila said.
Anthea was afraid that her patient was looking for her, so she did not dare to delay. "Well, I'll be right there!"
She briefly told Eric about the situation and hurried back to the department of general surgery.
Coming out of the elevator, Anthea walked straight to the nurse station and saw a tall and strong figure in a clean military uniform. The shoulder marks reflected rays of golden sunlight into her eyes. Anthea, seeing him, was speechless.
She looked around but did not see Mila.
Mila ran away long ago!
Anthea turned around and wanted to leave.
She heard the sounds of his military boots falling to the ground. Adam caught up with her, his tall shadow blocking her way. Anthea had no choice but to force a smile and asked, "So, Uncle Adam, what do you want me to do?"
Adam knew that she called him like this on purpose.
He did not argue with her, but said, "I have something for you, Anthea."
Anthea, looking at him, asked, "What is it?"
Adam said, "You'll know it when you come out with me."
"But I have some work to do!" Anthea frowned.
"It won't delay you for too long." As soon as Adam finished speaking, he grabbed her small hand with his big hand, trying to take her away.
Anthea wanted to refuse, but she was afraid that he would carry her away on his shoulders. That day, on the golf course, he threatened her like that. Though the hospital was full of people and he had to consider that he was a military officer in uniform, she was still worried.
"I'll go myself!" Anthea got rid of his big hand.
Adam did not insist on holding her hands. "Okay."
They took the elevator and walked out of the hospital building.
When Adam came out, he immediately lit a cigarette, using the lighter that she gave him.
He deliberately played with her necklace, his fingertips touching the bright love pea in the sunlight.
Anthea looked away.
They passed through the clinic building from the inpatient department and continued to move forward. It seemed that he was going to get out of the hospital.
Anthea frowned. "Where on earth is it?"
"Go ahead." Adam lifted his chin slightly.
Finally, she walked out of the hospital with him. The green military jeep stopped on the side of the road instead of the parking lot in the yard.
Anthea followed him and walked close to the jeep. The window behind it was open the whole time.
He was not afraid of losing something!
Adam walked over, opened the back door, and said to her, "Come and get it yourself."
Anthea pursed her lips, wondering what he was up to.
With vigilance, she looked at him for a while. He remained calm and composed while smiling lightly. She hesitantly stepped forward and bent down to look inside. She exclaimed in surprise,"... a puppy?!"
In the back seat, there was a small square cage, in which there was a baby dog.
Its hair was creamy-white, and the hair on its ears was darker. The puppy had a pair of watery, dark eyes, which made it look innocent and lovely.
It was looking at Anthea through the cage.
Now, she understood why Adam took her so far away.
Generally, dogs were not allowed to be taken to hospitals. They might bring some bacteria and cause bacterial infections. Thus, Adam deliberately parked his car outside the hospital.
He said, "Anthea, this is a labrador."
Anthea's heart trembled slightly.
She suddenly remembered what she once said: When I graduated, I would keep a labrador! I watched a foreign movie. The couple in it kept one. Every day when they went back home after work, the dog would put their slippers at the door! You and I can also live with a labrador in our future home!
The words lingered in her ears, but she suddenly drew her hand back from the puppy.
Anthea straightened up and said in a clean but cold
voice, "Adam, I have a boyfriend!"
"Emm," Adam said calmly.
Emm?!
Anthea pursed her lips and was surprised by his indifference.
Adam's lips curled up slightly as he said, "I can be your secret lover."
"..." His words stroke Anthea dumb.
How could a masculine man in military uniform say something like that! It hit her like a thunderbolt!
Anthea's temples were throbbing violently.
Adam stared at her and said, "Anthea, is it very difficult to be with me again?"
Anthea stood in his shadow, making efforts to restrain her surging emotions. She said calmly, "Just as I've told you several times, I have no feelings for you! Plus, I have no plans to keep a dog in the near future. I'm still very busy and have to go back to work!"
She quickly returned to the department of general surgery.
As soon as she entered the office, a text message came. "Anthea, I've put it in the entrance-guarding room."
Anthea made no reply and put her phone back in her pocket.
When she got off work in the evening, she took off her white coat, changed into casual clothes, and was leaving the hospital.
When she passed by the entrance-guarding room by the hospital gate, she saw a cage by the window out of the corner of her eye. The creamy-white labrador was squatting in it, looking at her pitifully. Anthea stopped and closed her eyes for a while.
After taking a few steps, she finally stopped again.
She walked back. When she came out of the room, there was the cage in her hand.
The intelligent labrador seemed to have known that Anthea would be its owner. Through the cage, it rubbed against her hand with his small head, putting its tiny claws on her clothes.
At this time, Eric called her. 'Anthea, do you have time tonight? Let's have dinner together!"
In the afternoon, Eric asked for leave and came over to change the fresh dressing for his wound. After that, he went back to work in a hurry.
Anthea half squatted on the ground. The puppy had licked her fingers wet.
It was such a small dog and badly needed a lot of care. At least, she had to hurry up and prepare a place to live and food for it.
So, she refused Eric. "I'm afraid I can't. Let's have dinner another time!"
Not far away, Adam, leaning against the wall, saw her get into a taxi with the puppy, smiled happily.
