Chapter 30. Date
“Hi Ellie. You look good today.” Jake charmed.
“What do you mean by today? Don’t I always look good?” I questioned him giving him a scowl.
“Yeah you do! Its just that, umm..“he stuttered with his words, looking embarrassed. Chloe, Cynthia and Evan laughed at him while Mason just sat there glaring at Jake. For what, I don’t know.
“I’m joking Jakie.” I laughed.
“Hey I told you not to call me that. ” he whined.
I leaned over the table and gave him a peck on the cheek. He smiled at that. I felt Mason’s eyes on me so I looked at him. He looked quite upset.
“What is it?” I questioned.
He shook his head and turned back to his fries. We were sitting in the food court at the mall killing time before we head to the cinema. We decided on watching Orphan.
“Chloe who are you staring at ?” I asked her. She’s been looking behind me at someone since we got here.
“Huh? Nobody.” She said too loudly.
I looked behind me and saw a group of guys at another table. They looked quite familiar. I guess they attend our school as well. I turned back to face Chloe who’s face became red.
“Which one?” I smiled.
“What how do you know I was even looking at a boy?” She defended.
I looked at her raising my eyeborws
“Ughh fine. Its the brunette.” She groaned, ducking her head.
I looked behind me and turned back to her.
“They’re like three brunettes sitting there.” I stated, pursing my lips.
“The guy with the leather jacket.” She whispered.
“They can’t hear you, you know. No need to whisper.” I heard Cynthia say, taking a break from sucking Evan’s face off.
“Shut up and go back to your boyfriend.” Chloe retorted.
“Gladly.” Cynthia smiled, turning back to Evan.
“I think that’s Theo. He’s in my Biology class.” Jake said, looking at the guy’s table behind me.
“Theo? That’s his name?” Chloe squealed.
“You’re such a girl.” Mason said irritated. What’s his problem today. Now he made Chloe feel offended.
“Mason.” I scolded him.
“Sorry.” He murmured, looking up at Chloe.
“Hey there’s your chance. He got up. He looks like he’s headed over to the candy machine. ” Jake announced a little too loudly.
“Oh no, I am not going over to him. I don’t know what to say.” Chloe said her eyes widening.
“I’ll come with you. I told you I was going to help you find a hunky guy and he’s quite cute I might say. ” I grinned.
I grabbed a dollar out my purse and dragged Chloe with me to the candy machine.
Chloe fluffed her hair beside me and checked her breath. I giggled inwardly at her.
We stood behind Theo and i looked at her motioning with my head to give her the signal to talk to him.
She took a deep breath and tapped his shoulder. He looked like he was Mason’s height but not that tall. He turned around with a questioning expression and looked at both of us. He had green eyes and dark brown hair.
“Um are-are you finish there?” Chloe stammered. I slapped my forehead with my palm inwardly. C’mon Chloe you can do better that that.
“Oh I think its broken.” He said before kicking it. The chocolate he bought fell and he grabbed it. “Well not anymore.” He grinned.
Chloe just stared at him in awe.
I pulled out my dollar and placed it in the machine and the snickers I clicked on moved forward but stopped immediately after.
“Well it’s broken. Again. Chloe let’s go” I announced, pulling Chloe’s arm. Let’s see if he takes the bait to help us.
“Hey let me see if I can jack it up once more.” He called to us. Awesome sauce.
He kicked the machine once and my snickers came tumbling down.
“Thanks a lot.” I grabbed my snickers and gave him a small smile. Chloe had her head down looking away shyly.
“I’m Theo by the way.” He said once more.
“I’m Elena and this is my friend Chloe.” I looked at Chloe and she peeked up at me then looked back at Theo with a shy smile.
“Hi.” She sighed.
“Hey.” Theo smirked, looking at her. “You look familiar.”
“Oh we kinda sorta go to the same school so...” She trailed.
“Oh so I guess i’ll see you again pretty soon.” He smiled, looking at her.
“Oh yeah. I guess.” She smiled back, gazing into his eyes.
I cleared my throat to grab her attention. “Bye Theo. Nice to meet you ” I told the guy, pulling Chloe’s arm.
“Yeah bye.” He replied, still looking at Chloe. Yup he likes her. Its written right over his face.
We came back at our table and Chloe squealed, grinning at me.
“I can’t believe he talked to me.” She grinned.
“Well, I don’t think he’s the rude kind.” I replied.
“So Jake, see any girl you like?” I questioned him.
He looked up at me with fries partway into his mouth. He took a bite and chewed. I waited patiently for a response.
“Oh yeah. There is this one girl....” He trailed, looking at his tray.
“Soo who is it?” I pushed.
“I don’t think you know her. I’ll tell you more about her another time.” He sighed. I shrugged my shoulders and dropped the subject.
“Oh my best friend from back home will be here after school break. I was thinking we could go bowling or something.” I inquired.
“Yeah that’ll be cool. I can’t wait to meet her.” Chloe smiled.
“Its time to go. Movie’s gonna start in the next five.” Mason stated, getting up.
We dumped our junk in the bin and walked over to where the theathre was. We gave the lady our tickets and we went inside.
Cynthia and Evan sat together, Mason sat to the left of Cynthia’s and I sat beside him. Jake came in and sat down beside me and Chloe took her seat beside him. I was in between Mason and Jake and I felt a tad uncomfy. Not because i’m sitting between two greek gods but those two Greek gods had their hand on the handle of my seat. Its like they were waiting for me to hold unto it. The lights dimmed and the movie started. I ignored both their hands and enjoyed the movie.
It last around two hours and its past ten o clock now. Evan drove Cynthia home and Jake and Cynthia drove home in their own car. Which leaves me and Mason.
“Hey i’m not quite ready to go home as yet. Do you mind staying for a while?” He asked, looking down at me.
“Uh yeaah sure. Where are we gonna go?” I inquired.
“I know the perfect place.” He smiled. He seemed to only show that smile around me. I’m clueless to why but I’m honored to be the one to see it so often.
I left my car at home since Mason volunteered to pick me up earlier. So we were now on our way to wherever in his car.
We drove up to a bridge in a park like area. It showed the view of the city quite clearly and I have never been in so much awe of something.
“Its beautiful ” I sighed.
“Yeah it sure is. Its my favorite spot in the entire city.” He replied.
I gazed up and saw the stars shining as bright as ever. I use to avoid looking at them because they reminded me so much of my mom. We use to lay in the grass at nights and gaze at the stars. We did it the night before she passed and I stopped doing it ever since.
I jumped on the hood of Mason’s car and layed there, looking up at them. I felt my eyes water but I dared them to stay away and they did. Ever since my mother died, I never shed a tear regarding her and I don’t plan on changing it. I have to be strong for her. For both my parents.
Mason layed beside me and gazed at the stars with me. It was quiet and peaceful that night.
“Mason, why did you bring me here?” I asked him, still looking up at the sky.
“Because I wanted to.” He stated.
“Why did you?” I pushed.
“Why are you asking this Xayla?” He asked, sounding annoyed.
“Fine.” I muttered.
“Because I wanted to be alone with you.” I heard him whisper.
I turned to look at him with shock and a confused expression on my face. He turned to look at me and I felt a wave of happiness coming from him. I smiled at that.
“Will you go on a date with me, Xayla?” He whispered, looking me in the eyes.
“Yes.” I replied, a grin forming on my face.
He gave me a small smile before turning his gaze back to the sky.
Well be damned. I’m going on a date with Mason O’Brien. I bit my bottom lip in anticipation.
