Project 43

Chapter 2625

It happened. I was standing in line. I had my bat at my feet laughing with Nathan and a girl with neon pink hair and a piercing as her boyfriend played with an orange kitten.

The choking noise of someone turning. Screams. Someone lunging forward, a shout- several shots went off and more screams as people began to scatter.

Blood. Screams. One- then two.

Nathan's jacket was under my hand, and he made me grab onto it I couldn't lose it. I wasn't allowed to use it. He pulled me towards the building where they were waving healthy people in.

In retrospect that's what they tell you in training not to do when there's something that could be contagious. Do not hold yourself up with possible infected materials. They had even broadcasted this on the news but refusing people sounds just as cruel, but it proved to almost be fatal.

One of them lunged at Nathan from around the corner just as we reached the doors. I let go of Nathan realizing my bat was in my hand. Putting both hands on it I took my bat and swung.

Nathan says it was shot before I swung. It had to of been. We all had been in an adrenaline rush because I swung, and my bat stuck into the building. I screamed the whole time, had closed my eyes and continued screaming when I opened them.

In my confusion I thought the thing really had run away from me.

Nathan and I are on our futon we had gotten at a good will and I got a new cover for. We're watching what he calls the best childhood movies of all time that I missed out on. I made him pause this one with two dogs to write while he makes popcorn and coco.

He said that had been his sister's favorite on a hard day. Coco and buttery popcorn.

How many people are going to suffer hardships like us? The thought is depressing, and I know Nathan is trying to distract me. It's just...

Ugh I'm just so SURE it turned away from me.
