Chapter CHAPTER 24
Iris could be there, without thinking twice I lift my gown and start heading for the exit.
"CONSTANTINE!" Father yells.
"Adrianna, Adrianna."
I hear mother calling after me but I don't stop running until I get outside. I see a coach up ahead and a horse is still attached to it. "Coachman, coachman," I yell.
"Yes, Your Highness."
The coachman runs out from the other side of the coach. I quickly open the door and climb in.
"Quickly, to the old abandoned bell house now. Hurry," I order.
"Yes, Your Highness."
The coach starts moving almost immediately.
"Iris I am coming, please be safe," I say to myself.
PRINCESS IRIS'S SCENE
I wake up to Grenade's loud gallops.
"Grenade, what is going on? What are you doing?" I ask
I start coughing when I inhale the smoke in the air.
"Smoke? Where is it coming from?" I say to myself
It took me some time to realize the dark smoke in the air. I quickly jump up to the flames close to where I tied Grenade. The roof above her is on fire too. "Grenade," I scream
I rush to her and try to untie her but I couldn't, the smoke is getting heavy and the fire was so very hot that I can't see. I try to shield my eyes but I feel the smoke entering my lungs. I start coughing. Grenade is using her hoofs to heat the post but it won't budge. I rush to the end of the house where junk was kept. I shuffle through it quickly then I find a small kitchen knife. I rush to get to Grenade but I trip on a box. I turn to look at the box and I notice a label on it. It read gunpowder.
"Oh my god, this place is going to explode," I say.
I quickly jump up and run to Grenade who is hoofing to get untied. I quickly cut the belt and release her. Just then I hear a cracking sound. I look up at the roof and notice it falling. I quickly get out of the way as the ceiling falls off. I start coughing and turn to look for Grenade. I see her on the other side going around in circles. When I manage to stand up, Grenade starts neighing and hoofing.
"Go, get out of here. I will find another way out. Go now," I order.
She looks reluctant to leave but she does as I say. I look around me for a way out. The smoke is getting heavier. The exit is gone, I look around to find another exit.
"Your Highness, Your Highness," I hear Constantine calling out to me.
I turn to the wall where I can hear the voice.
"Your Highness, are you there? Can you hear me?"
I rush to the wall.
"Constantine, I am over here," I say.
"Your Highness are you alright?" Constantine asks.
"No Constantine, the exit is gone, I can't see and there is gun power over here," I say.
"Gunpower?"
"Yes," I say.
"Iris!"
"Father?
"Iris," Father calls again.
"Father!" I scream.
"Talk to me, are you alright?"
"No father," I cough, "There is fire everywhere and I found boxes of gunpowder," I cry.
"I am right here Iris and you are going to be fine. There is a doorway at the end of the house. The entrance is gone, you have to find it and come out through it," Father yells back at me.
I look behind me and the flames are everywhere.
"I can't..."
"Yes, you can Iris. Try, you will find it. I will have to go round to reach the door. I will meet you there. You have to hurry Iris before the fire reaches the gunpowder," Father says.
"Alright father," I say.
"Go, now," Father orders.
I start moving, navigating myself around the fire, and searching for the door until I find it. I try to push the door but it won't budge. I look around me and I find a shovel. I look up at the ceiling and the fire has gotten to me. I quickly use the shovel to break the door handle and push the door. It starts moving until it gets stuck and won't move again. I try fitting myself into the space but I couldn't fit.
"Help! Help! Help!! Can anyone hear me? Father! Father!!" I yell.
I continually struggle with the door until I hear horses and a coach.
"Father, Father," I yell.
"Iris, Iris."
"Ri, is that you?"
"Iris!" Ri screams.
I push my hand through the space. Ri reaches the door and grabs my hand.
"I have never been happier to see anyone," I say.
"Are you alright?" Ri asks.
"The door, it's stuck on something. It won't open any further," I cry.
Ri and I try moving the door but it won't budge.
Ri turns to the coachman.
"Coachman hand me a rope," Ri orders.
The coachman finds Ri a rope. Ri ties the rope to the door handle and the coachman ties the other end to the coach.
I look behind me and find the fire reaching me.
"Ri hurry," I say.
Ri tests the firmness of the rope on the door handle. She turns to the Coachman.
"Now," Ri shouts.
The coachman starts moving the coach with the horses. The door starts moving as I struggle to fit in the space. The door opens a little as the rope snaps. I struggle with the space created and fight to come out. Ri helps me until I come out. Ri grabs me in a hug.
"Oh my God Iris, I feared the worst for you," Ri says.
"I am glad you are here," I say.
We hear horses neighing in a near distance.
"That must be father," I say happily.
Just then an explosion is heard and the roof right above Ri and I starts falling.
"Iris watch out," Ri screams.
She pushes me out of the way and the roof falls.
I hit my head on a rock.
Just then I hear father shout "ADDRIANNNAAA" and an explosion follows.
I look behind me and watch the bell house totally collapse. I can't stay awake any longer and all that I can see is darkness.
