Chapter 80: She Has Told Me Everything
Joseph did not change his expression. He took a sip of coffee and put down his cup.
“You’ve misunderstood. I’m just guessing that you probably come to the celebration personally for Hayden’s sake.”
Those words were smartly explained.
Bentley’s face eased slightly. He did not express an opinion.
No matter what the real reason was, a wealthy and noble family should always put decency at first.
Speaking of his daughter, Bentley was a little proud.
“Hayden has been doing things seriously since she was young. Her working ability certainly has no problem. It’s just that the
domestic work environment is different from foreign countries after all. Now, it seems like Mr. Beckham has helped her a lot.”
“It’s because that she’s outstanding.” Joseph could not help but remember the matter during the interview in which she said
confidently that she could reach the performance target in two months, “I don’t help her much, even if there is, it’s just the normal
care a boss should have to subordinates.”
These words sounded reasonable but they were not what Bentley wished to hear. He frowned and took a sip of tea.
As Joseph still did not hear the main topic of the conversation, he glanced at his wrist.
“Mr. Downey, I have to catch a flight later, so perhaps I can only stay with you for a while.”
Hearing this, Bentley took a deep breath and sized up him, “You should know what my purpose of finding you is.”
At that engagement banquet, Joseph publicly declared that Hayden was his fiancée. This matter had already spread in the circle.
Actually, when Joseph first met Bentley, he already knew the purpose of him finding himself to talk.
It made sense that a father was worried about his daughter and wanted to see what kind of person his seemingly future son-in-
law was.
“Hayden has told me everything.”
Bentley slowly let out a breath and looked sentimental.
“Hayden was born without a mother and she did not grow up under my care so I owed her. Before she went overseas, I’ve
already decided that no matter what kind of person she wants to marry, as long as the man treats her well, I have no other
requirements.”
Hearing these words, Joseph suddenly became curious, “What did she say to you?”
“I thought you and Hayden are in a relationship? And you two are preparing to get married.”
Joseph’s expression froze for a while. Due to an unknown reason, he surprisingly nodded.
“Yes, it’s just like what she said to you.”
Bentley heaved a sigh of relief and spoke sincerely.
“If you guys have time, come to my house together. I know young people like you all don’t care about the form but just treat it as
being sympathetic to the elderly. It will be fine even you guys are just going through the motions.”
Joseph had a complicated mood. He wanted to know the reason Hayden made up their relationship in front of her father. Was
she really having special thought towards him or she just wanted to get rid of her family’s concern?
“If you and Hayden get married, I’ll rest assured to entrust the matters of the group to you two.”
Hearing this, Joseph was secretly amazed at first. But after thinking for a while, he was able to understand why.
Downey Group had developed quite well in Nanking but a few years ago, Bentley began to devolve power to his eldest daughter
and a few nephews due to his health condition. That year, several incidents happened and this significantly affected the
reputation of the Downey Group. After that, Bentley had no choice but to go back to work again, and only then the company
situation became better.
For a family business like Downey Group, what it needed the most was a leader who had talent and could be trusted by those in
power.
But unfortunately, Bentley only had two daughters.
Even though Hayden never managed the business of a group, from her current working ability, she was indeed eligible to be in
that position. As for Chelsea, Joseph had seen her before. It seemed that other than buying branded bags and attending parties
with her besties to show off her wealth, she totally had no capability.
Regarding this matter, Joseph naturally did not agree. He tried to divert the topic of the conversation to another. After seeing that
the time was late and as he was being urged by his assistant, he got up and prepared to left.
Before leaving, Bentley suddenly called him.
“By the way, there is one more thing to trouble you. The 15th of next month is Hayden’s birthday, and also the death anniversary
of her mother. If you have time, spend more time with her.”
Joseph paused his pace. When he nodded, he showed an expression with a solemnity that he rarely showed.
When going downstairs, the celebration venue was lively. It had reached the lottery session. When the young hunks took turns to
perform on stage, the fans at the bottom screamed crazily. They absolutely made the celebration looked like a fans meeting.
When the assistant followed Joseph, he could not help but praise Hayden.
“Ms. Downey is really smart as she is able to think of a good approach. I hear that since the lottery session is announced on the
Internet, the branches of ST Hotel across the country this month are all full.”
“What kind of approach is this.” Joseph glanced at the slim figure in the distance and hid the admiration in his eyes. He
purposely pretended that he disliked that idea and said.
“The pre-investment is too high. The uncertainty and risk are high too. If it isn’t because of the celebration, how will she have the
opportunity to take advantage of this short-lived fan effect to earn money for the hotel. Not to mention, this approach is useless
for the long-term development of hotel and it may have a negative impact not long after.”
“Huh? Useless for the long-term development? Negative impact? Then why do you instruct me to call the finance department to
ask them to increase the budget?”
After these words were uttered, Joseph glared at him sharply.
Magnus shivered in fear, completely unaware of what had he said wrong again.
As the planner of the whole celebration, Hayden naturally had to entertain all the invited guests. So, she walked around with a
glass of wine and never noticed that there was a tall figure standing in a distant blind spot in the crowd. She occasionally
exchanged pleasantries with the guests she knew but she did not go too close.
“Mr. Beckham, we still don’t go over to say hello? We will have to go to the airport in a few minutes.”
Joseph shifted his gaze, “No need, let’s go.”
“Ah? The lottery session is on-going; you don’t want to see the results?”
“Not important.”
These two words were uttered coldly. Magnus only could sigh inwardly and he hurriedly followed Joseph to leave the venue. He
thought in mind that he should not talk too much as he was quite curious about the results!
“Next is our most exciting moment of the lottery.”
The host loudly announced on the stage.
“I hereby invite our five actors to come up on stage and personally draw a prize for their fans.”
In front of each five actors, there was a red raffle box with their respective names on it. Before each guest entered the venue,
they put their admission ticket into the raffle box of the actor they wished to travel with and the actors would personally draw it.
The prizes were transferable. So, although many of these guests were not fond of these young hunks, they still could take it back
to their companies as a benefit for their employees if they won it.
“Alright, all of our actors have drawn. Now, from left to right, announce the name of the guest you guys have drawn!”
Five charming and handsome men lined up on the stage with a friendly smile on their faces. They occasionally interacted with
the fans below and when this happened, there was a series of screams at the bottom.
Hayden was standing at the bottom and she could not help but cover her ears due to the screams.
People always said that a woman was equivalent to one thousand and five ducks. Perhaps all the ducks in the entire scene
could make several circles around Earth if they were connected.
