Chapter 77: You Are Not Her Mother
“Everything has been done. He signs the five-year contract with Ray-Trace Media directly. If he breaches the contract, he will
need to use all his wealth to pay for the damages for breach of contract,” Magnus wanted to laugh when he spoke of this.
Freddie was indeed too naïve as he was immediately gotten tricked when Joseph pretended to aim at one target while actually
shooting at another. Indeed, Freddie was still too young and inexperienced as he did not know his boss’s temper.
“I let him breach the contract for what?” Joseph thoughtfully retorted, “Isn’t it better to keep him safe so that he can make money
for me.”
Hearing this, Magnus froze for a moment. After regaining his presence of mind, he sympathized with Freddie even more.
Boss was simply planning to infuriate others without killing him!
Try to imagine that you hated a person very much but you had to become the person’s subordinate and also had to earn money
for him. If you did not earn money for that person, you could not get a salary but if you earned it for him, most of the money
earned would be taken away by that person. How painful this kind of matter was?
...
In the villa of the Downey family.
Hayden deliberately came back at noon on Monday to get the keys.
Hayden had to go to the company to work. Although Hayden’s stepmother, Sofia, was not a kind person, she would still be polite
on the surface so she would not make things difficult for her. Hayden thought inwardly that if she immediately left after taking the
keys, everything should be fine.
“.”
When the old maid of the Downey family, Camille saw Hayden, she almost burst into tears, “Ms. Downey, why have you come
back? Where have you been all these years?”
Camille was the maid who had been following Hayden’s mother in her early years. After Hayden’s mother passed away, she had
been with Hayden to take care of her. She also followed Hayden to come to the Downey family not long after.
Hayden’s eyes also turned watery. She held Camille’s hand and said while choking up, “I’ve been back for a while. I’ve made you
worry for not coming back here.”
“It’s okay. I don’t know how much you’ve suffered outside. If your mother knows this, she will blame me for not taking good care
of you.”
“I’m fine, Camille.”
“Hayden?”
While they were talking, a woman’s voice interrupted.
Sofia stood on the stairs in a blue-grey cheongsam. Her well-kept face made her looked like a thirty-year-old person and her
charm was still intact. When she saw Hayden at this moment, her face was full of astonishment but her expression quickly
returned to normal. While going downstairs, she said friendly.
“Hayden, how come you’ve come back? Why don’t you inform me in advance, I’ll then ask the maids in the kitchen to cook your
favourite meal.”
Hayden let go of Camille’s hand, “I come back to take something only, I’ll leave after taking it, don’t need to do so much thing,
aunt.”
She had been calling Sofia as aunt for many years and she never changed the way she called Sofia.
In the past, she secretly heard Sofia complaining to Bentley with a look of feeling aggrieved, saying that she had treated Hayden
sincerely as her daughter but Hayden did not appreciate it at all as Hayden refused to even change the way of calling her.
But, Bentley replied to her with the words, ‘you are not her mother at first either, it’s already quite polite for her to call you aunt’.
In front of Bentley at that time, Sofia did not dare to say anything but after Bentley left, she smashed a lot of things. She scolded
the maids in the bedroom and said that ‘she’s not my daughter at first too, how come he never tells me that I don’t need to treat
her nicely?’
Hayden was able to see through such a two-faced woman at a very young age. She completely could not understand why her
father did not realize this despite staying with her for so many years, was he actually blind?
After exchanging pleasantries, Sofia did not stop Hayden from going upstairs.
Her room was still the same as before and nothing had been moved. She tried to recall her memories and opened the drawer on
the right side of the desk. Hayden frowned. The key was not there.
After she received this gift that year, she certainly put the keys right here. Someone had moved it.
“Have you found it?”
Seeing Hayden coming downstairs, Sofia got up from the sofa and asked gently.
“No,” Hayden asked bluntly, “Aunt, the key of my house is not in the drawer of my room. Has anyone touched my things?”
Sofia was slightly stunned, “The key of your house? What do you mean?”
“The villa that my father gave me six years ago. The one in Jinshui Villa Area.”
“I don’t know.” Sofia denied with an innocent look, “I never go into your room. Camille is normally the one who cleans your room
and your father will go in occasionally. Why don’t you ask your father?”
“Okay, I see.”
Hayden did not want to say much to her. She made a move to leave.
“Hayden, stay for lunch.”
Sofia spoke to keep her from leaving, “I’ve asked the maid to prepare some dishes like the sweet and sour fish which is your
favourite.”
Hayden did not look back and was suddenly a little annoyed.
“If I stay for dinner, I’m afraid that you won’t be able to eat.”
“Hayden, what are you talking about? How will I...”
“Why won’t you?” Hayden turned around and gazed at her, “There is no one else here and since my father is not at home, you
don’t have to be simulating. Although my father can’t see through what kind of people you and your daughter are, I’m able to see
through everything clearly.” Having finished speaking, Hayden left the Downey family without turning her head.
Sofia leaned against the sofa and her face darkened. She slowly gazed at Camille who was at the door.
“Hey, what have you told her?”
Camille’s attitude was cold and she lowered her head, “The duration that Ms. Downey comes in and out doesn’t even exceed ten
minutes, what can I say to her?”
“What I’m asking is, what did you say to her in the past?”
“In the past?”
Camille raised her head and her eyes were so sharp that Sofia was a bit shocked and had surprisingly shivered, “Mrs. Downey
still remembers the things in the past? I initially think you’ve forgotten.”
After these words were uttered, Sofia’s hand could not help quivering.
So, what she meant was that Hayden knew everything. No wonder, no wonder she did not come back for so many years! She
had already gotten Joseph’s support, what was her purpose of coming back now?
Hayden took a cab and left the villa of the Hayden family. She looked like feeling unsettled.
That year, her mother had premature delivery when giving birth to her and because of haemorrhaging, her mother died a few
days after delivery. It was until the year that Hayden was admitted to Nanking Medical University only then Camille told her the
truth.
If it was not because that Sofia deliberately came over and made provocation, how would her mother have premature delivery?
Therefore, that two-faced woman was bound to be held accountable for her mother’s death.
In her two years in university after that, she rarely went home even when she was studying in the local town.
The matter had passed for too long so it was pointless to hold someone to account. But, she felt sad for her mother and finally in
the dilemma, she simply chose not to face the group of hypocritical people in the Downey family.
After dispelling the annoying things in her mind, Hayden fished out her phone, wanting to call her father. But due to an unknown
reason, she suddenly thought of Sofia’s behaviour of being shifty-eyed just now. An idea suddenly flashed through her mind.
“Mister, I don’t want to go to Imperial Villa anymore. I want to go to Jinshui Villa Area.”
It was obviously her father’s order that her things in the study could not be moved. Two days ago, she had just talked to her
father that she was going to get the keys so he certainly would not go to her room to deliberately take it away. Therefore, if the
keys were lost, there was only one possibility.
The keys were taken by someone who was always thinking to take others’ things.
