Chapter 49
“Let’s go. I’ll take you somewhere.”
Andrew said, smiling and immediately understanding what Elizabeth Hayes was thinking.
He reached out and took her fair and delicate hand, leading her toward the back of the maple forest.
After about five minutes, Andrew brought her to the highest point in the area.
“From here, you can see where your mother has been living all these years.”
Andrew said, taking her to the edge of the top floor.
Elizabeth followed his gaze and saw the full view of the sanatorium.
However, the height was too great, and she was slightly short–sighted, so the view was a bit blurry.
“This is for you,” Andrew said.
He took a small telescope out of his suit pocket and handed it to Elizabeth.
Upon seeing this, Elizabeth’s eyes lit up. “You’re so considerate!”
Her tone was filled with gratitude. Andrew had helped her these past few days, and it was enough for her to remember it for the rest of her life!
“As long as you’re happy.”
When he saw the smile on Elizabeth’s face, Andrew’s deep gaze gradually softened.
Elizabeth took the binoculars, carefully examining the areas of the nursing home where her mother had lived for nearly a decade that were within view.
She had thought that her mood would be lighten up after watching it, but instead, it became even heavier for no reason. It was as if a huge rock was pressing down on her heart, making it difficult for her to breathe.
She put the binoculars aside with a dejected expression and sighed softly. Scenes of her time with her mother flashed through her mind from time to time.
“In my memory, my mother was a particularly intellectual and elegant woman. My maternal grandfather taught her especially well, but it was precisely because of this that when she met someone like my father, who was disloyal to his family, she started to be at a loss and her heart softened. That was why my father hurt her so deeply later.
“I remember that when I was young, she loved taking me to the study to read. She would even hug me in her arms and tell me the stories very patiently.
“Oh, she can also paint, dance, and play the piano. She taught me all these things, too. It’s a pity that I’ve only learned the basics and then lost the chance to spend time with her.
“So, I really want to get her back. At the very least, I want her to give me those things she didn’t have a chance to teach me… Is that too much to ask for?”
Perhaps it was in such a special atmosphere that Elizabeth spoke intermittently about her and her mother, telling Andrew many beautiful memories. Each one was so wonderful that their sudden separation made it even more heart–wrenching for
her.
“Yeah.”
Andrew responded calmly, becoming her most loyal listener at that moment.
“What about you, Andrew? I’ve never heard you mention your parents. How did you get along with them as a child?”
She asked Andrew, looking at him intently. She suddenly wanted to know about his past, but she was aware of his reserved personality and asked the question with the expectation that it might go unanswered.
“My parents passed away when I was six.”
He replied calmly, but his slightly trembling tone betrayed his low–pressure emotions.
Tm sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.” Elizabeth immediately apologized.
She felt a twinge of regret and bit her lip upon hearing this.
She had assumed that his parents had passed away in recent years, but he was only a few years old when they died.
He must have been so helpless and sad at that time!
“It’s fine. It’s been so long that I can’t even remember what it feels like.
“Not long after they passed away, my uncles revealed their wolfish ambitions and began to fight fiercely for the Hayes

family’s assets.
“If it weren’t for my grandfather, who protected me all along, you probably wouldn’t be seeing me now.”
As he spoke, Elizabeth sensed an element of suppression in his calm expression, and suddenly felt a sharp pain spreading from her heart to her limbs and bones.
She had thought that she was already gravely unfortunate, but never imagined that someone from such a prominent family like Andrew could have also suffered so much.
For a moment, she felt sorry for this man who had always pretended to be strong.
As she thought of this, she instinctively moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around his strong waist, trying to comfort him in some way.
Elizabeth’s gesture was like a warm sun, shining directly into Andrew’s previously gloomy heart.
Lowering his head, he planted a gentle kiss on the top of her head and then tightly embraced her.
The moment they hugged, the dormant butterflies in their stomachs began to flutter and dance. It was clearly autumn, but it felt like spring was coming.
The next day, Elizabeth took a day off and went back to the Clarke family.
Although her heart had calmed down yesterday with Andrew’s comforting words, as time passed, she became increasingly
anxious.
She desperately wanted to save her mother but couldn’t find any leads.
Meanwhile, there was still no progress on Andrew’s side. She felt she had reached a breaking point; she knew she would never be relieved if she continued to stay there doing nothing.
Kaida’s threat made her realize that they must know something about her mother. Since she couldn’t get any information from Kaida, she decided to start with her father.
“Just who do we have here? How dare you show your face here again?”
As Elizabeth arrived at the entrance of the Clarke family’s courtyard, Katherine blocked her path with her sarcastic remarks before Elizabeth could take another step inside..
This evil woman had caused her to be hospitalized for so long and almost left a scar on her head. Now that she saw her again, she really wanted to tear her apart!
“This is my home. Why can’t I come back?” she retorted.
“Your home? You’re not even a member of our family. How ridiculous!”
Katherine sneered. Her mother had previously convinced her father to kick Elizabeth out of the family before. Now that she had no affiliation with this family, if Katherine didn’t want her to come in, she could not do anything but feel frustrated.
“Go away! I’m not in the mood to argue with you now!”
Elizabeth looked at her impatiently, the anger in her eyes about to boil over.
“We’re not receiving strangers at our home right now. Kathy, close the gate!”
At this moment, Kaida’s arrogant voice came from inside.
