Chapter 9 The Birth of a ‘Great Actress’
Not wanting to witness them showing off their love, she turned around and was about to go back to her room.
At that moment, Clarissa smiled and walked closer to Adelaide and held her hand intimately, "Adelaide, you haven't had your breakfast right? Shall we eat together?"
"No thanks, Damla didn't leave a lot of food behind." Adelaide retracted her hands and subconsciously took a few steps back.
"Are you implying that I've snatched away the things that should belong to you?"
Adelaide sighed and tried to get accustomed to Clarissa who was no pushover. In order not to worsen her own image in Antonio's heart as a petty woman, she could only nod and maintain the good rapport between the three of them!
At the dining table, Clarissa wanted to display the reliable side of her so she kept sending food to Adelaide's plate while scooping some porridge for Antonia. She was deliberately pretending to be humble as she continued to flatter Adelaide.
Adelaide on the other hand couldn't continue to be hypocritical, so when she saw that Antonio was not in a good mood, she decided to return to her room after just eating a few mouthfuls of the dishes. Fortunately, Antonio departed to the company to work shortly after. She leaned against the window and watched his car slowly disappear into the distance, and the loneliness in her eyes were more and more amplified.
Despite vowing not to be affected by Antonio's actions, when he really brought Clarissa home and was seen scooping up some nutritious food to her plate, she still could feel her heart ache. Adelaide caressed her belly and felt grateful and reassured as long as this little guy still existed.
She picked up the "Notre Dame de Paris" book from the night table by her bed and settled herself comfortably into her chair. Sunlight was pouring in generously through the window and illuminated parts of her room, and coincidentally she was basking in the warm glow as the light shone on where she was sitting. The warmth was really invigorating.
Adelaide didn't want her thoughts to wander to things related to Antonio and Clarissa, so she held the book eagerly as if it was a precious thing and continued where she had stopped last time. In an instant, she was immediately pulled into the story.
"This room is not bad, and it is bright enough. Damla, I'll choose this room."
Adelaide was immersed in her books without even noticing that Clarissa and Damla was already scouring in her room.
Damla nodded in approval and she immediately strode towards Adelaide and poked her with obvious reluctance while announcing coldly, "Ms. Clarissa wants this room, I think you should go stay in another room."
"No way, this room belongs to Antonio and me."
Clarissa let out a chuckle while sitting on the bed, "Antonio told me that I need to bask in sunlight from time to time and eat more nutritious food since my body is weak, unlike you who is as strong as a bull even though you are pregnant. Based on my observation, this room is exposed to the most amount of sunlight, so you shouldn't be so petty and should just empty it for me."
She kept rambling about this but Adelaide didn't care much as cast a glance in her direction. She shut her book loudly while insisting, "I have told you that I won't let you have this room!"
Seeing that she wasn't going to change her mind, Clarissa was finally enraged! She forcefully pushed back her surging anger and said in a gentle tone to Damla, "Damla, you haven't seen your grandchildren for a long time, right? There won't be anything here that needs your attention today, so I think you should pay them a visit."
As she said that, Clarissa produced a few red bank notes and her cheeks were somewhat flushed, “Damla, you can keep this. This is my way of thanking your for taking care of Antonio for such a long time, and now you also need to watch after me too. I really feel embarrassed to let you do that, so please buy some things for your grandchildren. This is the least I can do."
Damla was mildly shocked by her actions. Although Adelaide would never simply lose her temper and she was much better than other young ladies from other wealthy families, she never gave her any money, and she definitely wasn't as friendly as Clarissa. She was a little flustered at the moment, "Ms. Clarissa, the young master has been treating me very well, and it is my pleasure to take care of him. I-I-I can't take these money, no way!"
"Damla, are you feeling disdainful towards me because I'm not Antonio's real wife? Are you reluctant to take my money because of that?"
When Damla heard this, she could no longer maintain her reservation. She immediately kept the money and disappeared like the wind.
After making sure that Damla was finally gone, Clarissa let her anger boil over as she swept everything on Adelaide's desk to the floor while howling rudely, "Adelaide, who do you think you are? You will do as say!"
"Does Antonio know that you're such a hot-tempered bitch?" Adelaide glared at her coldly while thinking that those items Clarissa had toppled over were just her cosmetic products which she rarely used normally. Since she was pregnant now, it was better for her just to cut them off entirely.
"Stop bringing up Antonio's name in front of me, do you think that you're worthy to even mention his name? If Antonio really care about you, do you think that he would still allow me to move into this house? Adelaide, how can you be so naive and simple even after all those years?"
Clarissa was pointing at Adelaide while her chest heaving because of anger.
"Clarissa, you've successfully moved into the Baron family's residence, but this room still belongs to Antonio and me. I will never compromise!" Adelaide was determined in her effort and decided to defend this last standing space that contained Antonio's and her memories. She would never let Clarissa invade into this space!
"Alright, alright! Adelaide, you are really something!" Clarissa was starting to stammer as her face was now distorted because of anger.
Accompanied by a loud sound, Clarissa threw Adelaide's blanket and sheets to the floor. Her fierce look right now was a far cry from her normal image as a pregnant woman.
Adelaide wanted to stop her, but she was shocked by Clarissa's grotesque expression.
"Adelaide, you are a bitch! Why do you want to take away what belongs to me?" As Clarissa continued to curse at Adelaide, she smashed every item visible to her eyes all on the floor. Every glass container and bottle was broken into pieces and the shards were scattered on the floor.
"Clarissa, if you don't get out of here now, I will tell Antonio about your antics. If he knows that you are just a shrew, what do you think his reaction would be?" Adelaide was really afraid that Clarissa would destroy all of her books and her precious collection, so she immediately stood in her way to give her a warning.
Clarissa snorted coldly, "Do you think that Antonio would believe your words? Damla has been sent away by me, so nobody would believe your words."
Adelaide finally understood the reason Clarissa had given Damla some money. She glared at Clarissa ruthlessly as Clarissa was also glaring at her with murderous eyes.
While they were at a deadlock, Antonio's voice suddenly sounded from somewhere far away downstairs.
"Are you still not planning to leave yet? Do you really want me to tell Antonio about this?"
Adelaide frowned as she was trying to avoid any meaningless scuffle with this person. As long as Clarissa didn't go overboard with her actions, Adelaide thought that she could continue to put up with her.
At that moment, Clarissa didn't immediately leave, but instead she hastily poured some of the remnants of the cosmetic products on the floor on her shirt, and before Adelaide could react, she broke into a wail, "Adelaide, I'm in the wrong here. I admit that I have smashed everything in the room!"
"Adelaide, please hit me, but don't touch the child in my belly!"
Antonio was already outside the room at that moment, and the moment he opened the door, Clarissa immediately bumped into him. She looked up at him with teary eyes and at the sight of Antonio, she immediately began crying as if she had been wronged greatly.
Antonio stumbled upon the mess in the room, and he couldn't help but ask, "What is going on?"
"Adelaide is trying to kill my child!"☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
