Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Stella felt her blood freeze in her veins.
She only had 100 thousand dollars in her account. How could she pay up?
Bernard noticed the look on her face and chuckled. “Stella, there’s no way you don’t have that much, right?
“Of course, she does,” Joseph interjected. “Brian’s right here. What’s a couple of hundred thousand? He’ll surely help Stella out.”
Stella could tell she was turning puce.
Brian had frozen all her cards. Pay up? With what money?
Just when she was about to fall into despair, Joseph called out, “Brian, Stella’s been losing
again! Aren’t you going to help her out?”
over and over
Brian was scrolling through his phone on the couch. When he heard this, he turned to look at Stella.
Stella was utterly immersed in her impending financial crisis. She sported quite an impressive frown,
Brian furrowed his brows slightly before rising to his feet and approaching her. “Scoot over.”
Stella raised her head to look at him.
Brian looked down at her from his rather impressive height. “I said scoot over.”
Stella was frustrated. Still, she instinctively obeyed his order and moved aside.
Brian sat down and parted his lips, saying, “Deal the cards.”
Stella immediately snapped out of stupor. She clutched onto the corner of his shirt and whispered urgently, “Deal the cards? I’ve already lost 340 thousand
Brian simply flicked out a card and tried to remove her hand away from his person.
“Didn’t you hear me?” She became even more furious when she noticed him ignoring her.
So, she made another grab for his shirt. Alas, Brian dodged out of the way, causing her hand to land somewhere else.
Brian inhaled sharply and shot her a sharp look. “We’re In public. You’d better be good.”
Stella’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson. She didn’t mean to put it there!
Meanwhile, everyone had decided to put in their A–game when they saw Brian joining them. They were all focused on their cards. So, none of them noticed Stella and Brian’s odd behavior.
Stella carefully let out a breath. Then, she leaned toward him and murmured, “Each round is super pricey. You’d best be careful.”
Alas, it seemed that Brian was out to make things worse for her as he casually flicked another card
forward.
“Hey!” Stella was unhappy with his attitude.
Brian chuckled at her reaction. “I’m here now. There’s no
way we’d lose
Stella was just about to call him out for being arrogant when she saw Brian using Bernard’s card, announcing, “I win.”
Joseph wasted no time looking the second Brian showed his hand. “Holy crap! That’s a Straight Flush! Looks like Stella isn’t unlucky. She’s just not that great with cards.”
Stella indeed had no idea what she was doing.
She didn’t even know how much a Straight Flush was worth. So, she turned her attention to Joseph and asked, “How much is this worth?”
Joseph replied, “All hearts. You’ve won 320 thousand, Stella.”
Stella was beyond astonished. She snuck a peek at Bemard and saw the slight scowl tinging his lips, feeling utterly vindicated.
Then, she tilted her head to look at Brian.
He looked as composed as ever. The cards had been shuffled once more, signaling the start of the second round.
“I didn’t know you could play poker, breathed Stella. This time, she sounded less forceful.
“I don’t.” Brian’s tone was bland. “I just have a fantastic memory. I’ve gotten the hang of it after playing against my mother over the New Year’s.”
Stella thought in amazement, “Is this what true genius looks like?”
Just as she expected, Stella’s nightmare of being used as Bernard’s stepping stone ended with Brian’s participation.
Now, it was turning into Bernard’s personal hell while Brian won consecutively.
Stella couldn’t tell how much he had won. Thus, she kept bothering Joseph. ‘Dr. Sanders, how much am!
at now?”
“Stella, you’ve won at least a million now.”
