Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Joseph kicked him lightly. “What nonsense are you spewing? That’s Brian’s wife, Stella.”
“Sorry, Stella, I made a foolish mistake,” blurted the other guy apologetically.
Stella merely smiled. “It’s fine.”
There were about four to five men in the private room. Each of them was stunning in their own way.
Stella turned to look at Joseph and greeted politely. “It’s nice to see you again, Dr. Sanders.”
Joseph was Stella’s primary doctor for her annual checkups. So, they knew each other quite well.
“Hello, Stella. Hey, Brian. Joseph hastily chased two men away from their seats and guided Brian and
Stella there.
The men were rather chatty. So, it didn’t take long for them to close the distance between one another.
The staff served them wine. Since Stella was feeling rather parched, she decided to take one Alas, Brian took it away from her before telling the server, “One glass of orange juice, please.”
“I want something chilled.” Stella wanted to have some alcohol.
“Did you forget what happened yesterday?” He stared her down, unwavering.
Stella felt herself flush as her mind recalled what happened yesterday night.
for herself.
Joseph, who was sitting next to them, clicked his tongue. “Brian, you’ve changed. You’re actually attentive to a woman’s needs now.”
“She can’t drink alcohol.” Brian shot her a look. It wasn’t his fault she was a terrible drunk.
Stella fell silent and decided to ignore him. Instead, she munched on the snacks on the table.
Suddenly, she felt someone’s gaze on her. She instinctively turned around and saw that it was none other than Brian’s friend, Bernard.
Stella had seen Bernard a grand total of one time. It was on her wedding day two years ago. He was there as Brian’s groomsman. Ever since that day, he never had a pleasant look on his face when he saw her.
Stella couldn’t help but wonder, “Did I rob his ancestor’s grave or something? What’s with the look on his face?”
“Why did you bring her here?” Just as she expected, Brian had nothing good to say once he parted his lips to speak
Brian gave him the side eye. “What? I can’t bring my wife along?”
“Brian, that’s not what I meant.” Bernard had an awkward look on his face. He actually wanted to ask why he didn’t bring Jessica along.
Joseph could tell what he was thinking. So, he hastily mediated the situation. “Brian can bring whoever he
wants. That’s his prerogative. Come now. Cheers!”
Brian took a glance and drank it alongside everyone else.
Then, they started talking shop.
Stella felt utterly bored as she sat there. She had no intention of drinking the juice the staff had served. So, she sneakily inched toward the glass of alcohol.
She was certain Brian was busy drinking. Thus, she had no idea how he caught her red–handed. He calmly held her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers.
Stella instinctively looked at him. The gaze in his eyes was oppressive, making her feel stressed.
“Did I give you the green light to drink?”
“I don’t remember you being the boss of me.” What right did he have to boss her around? Well, it didn’t matter. She just didn’t want to drink juice right now.
“I said it earlier, didn’t I? You can’t drink.” Brian’s face was stone cold.
“And I said you have no right to do so.” Stella gave into her rebellious side and proceeded to make a grab
for a beer.
Brian’s gaze turned piercing as he dragged her into his embrace and threatened, “If you refuse to be good, I’ll be teaching you a lesson tonight.”
It was clear that the lesson he meant was anything but pure.
Stella immediately turned crimson.
Then, he brushed his lips against her ear and murmured, “You left me high and dry yesterday night. If you drink even a single drop of alcohol, you’ll be paying the price for what you did yesterday.”
Stella fell tellingly silent.
“Hey! Brian, that’s not how you should treat a woman. Let Stella go.” Joseph wrongly assumed that Brian was reprimanding Stella, especially after seeing the strange look on Stella’s face. So, he rushed to separate them.
Brian released her as he drawled languidly, “Someone has to teach a defiant woman a thing or two.
Stella bit her lips and said nothing as she felt her cheeks redden further.
Although everyone else might not understand what he was implying, she wasn’t blessedly ignorant.
The second her mind replayed the scenes of Brian fooling around, Stella felt herself deflate like a balloon. She couldn’t respond, nor could she even look at him.
In the end, she obediently sipped on her juice.
