Chapter 56
Chapter 0056
The next day, Samantha dressed professionally as usual.
She left after giving Nathan a gentle peck on the cheek.
Francis had escorted her to a location away from the company. He watched her enter the building before he drove away.
As Samantha entered the company lobby, she noticed a group of people discussing something.
At first, she paid no attention to them. It wasn’t until she heard her name mentioned that she slowly came to a halt.
The buzz died down in an instant.
She greeted a few familiar faces from the design department before entering the executive elevator.
The chatter picked up again.
Samantha knew the company was full of nosy colleagues and gossip. She didn’t pay them any mind.
When she arrived at the president’s office, Kendrick wasn’t there.
Instead, Jude placed a cup of coffee on Samantha’s desk.
“Ms. Meadows, please prepare for the meeting that will begin in an hour.” Jude’s
smile widened.
Samantha glanced at Kendrick’s empty seat and chose to ignore his absence.
After arranging some documents, she entered the conference room. Linda, who had a minor burn, was already seated while Kendrick occupied the seat next to her.
Upon Samantha’s entrance, Linda gave her a taunting smile out of Kendrick’s sight..
Unfazed, Samantha confidently walked up to the screen. She presented the details
of her proposal without sparing a glance at Kendrick.
At first, the attendees whispered amongst themselves.
Eventually, they were forced to pay attention as Samantha emphasized the
importance of the design proposal.
Under Samantha’s guidance, the straightforward meeting soon reached a com@RUE
After assigning the tasks, Samantha took her seat and quickly greeted Kendrick.
“Are you satisfied with the meeting, Mr. Ford?”
Kendrick kept his composure and gave Samantha no answer.
Linda, however, chimed in. Everyone seemed uninterested. Could you really call this a meeting?”
As Linda spoke, she inched closer to Kendrick
Kendrick skillfully avoided her. She turned to Linda. “This meeting is purely informational.”
Linda let out a dissatisfied reply but still clung to Kendrick’s sleeve. She tried to invite him to lunch.
Samantha gathered her things and left the conference room.
It was lunchtime by the time Kendrick returned to his office. As Samantha prepared to leave, she bumped into Kendrick at the office’s entrance.
“Let’s discuss some business” Kendrick quickly grabbed Samantha’s arm.
Samantha pulled away and looked at Linda. She was glaring at her near the entrance.
Samantha whispered, “Ms. Snider is here. Mr. Ford. you should talk to her. I have other matters to attend to.”
“She’s hurt.” Kendrick stepped forward, blocking Samantha s path.
Linda looked at her tiny burn and started to downplay the injury but was cut off by
Samantha.
“What time?” Samantha checked her watch.
Although she wasn’t looking forward to a one–on–one with Kendrick, the satisfaction of seeing Linda surprised was worth it.
“Now,” Kendrick said as he strolled toward the elevator.
Samantha watched as the doors closed.
Before she could turn around, Linda spoke up. “Sophia, didn’t you leave with Conrad last night? How can you still be with Mr. Ford today?”
Hearing Linda’s words, Samantha finally understood the morning’s gossip.
Rumors were circulating that she had ridden in Conrad’s car last night. Many had noticed the rivalry between Conrad and Kendrick.
“I’m Mr. Ford’s employee. It’s only natural that I work for him. My relationship with Mr. Conrad is personal.
“I don’t think there’s any conflict between the two,” Samantha said, putting on a business smile.
“What exactly are you trying to accomplish?” Linda couldn’t contain her anger.
After Samantha had been missing for four years and all news about her had gone dead silent, Sophia made her appearance.
Linda couldn’t fathom how much Samantha had revealed to Sophia back then.
“I just want to work hard and repay Mr. Duncan for his generous support.” Samantha smiled brightly.
She had no intention of revealing any more information to Linda. Samantha knew that Linda would remain confused as long as she kept things as they were.
Samantha turned and left. Out of Linda’s sight, Samantha grinned.
This was the second time that Samantha had visited Olivia.
Olivia had dyed her hair a deep blue and was wearing light makeup. She was surprised by Samantha’s visit.
“Hello, Miss Olivia. Nice to see you again,” Samantha greeted and extended a
friendly hand.
“This is surprising. I thought you were just an exception,” Olivia blurted her thoughts out loud.
She quickly realized the potential rudeness of her words and continued, “Sorry. I meant that Kendrick always has countless women around him.”
“I’m just his secretary. He doesn’t want to embarrass himself by bringing me along,” Samantha replied, sitting down on a chair,
Olivia searched her closet as usual. She quickly picked out a tight–fitting black dress. The V–n*eckline and open back made it alluring.
She tied up Samantha’s long hair and covered one of her eyes with a black veil.
