Chapter 60 She's Different
Because of her hand injury, another doctor took over her position as the medical expert on set. There was no news from the hospital except calling to check on her.
Pearl tried to call Dennis to ask when she could return to work. But no one answered, then she gave up.
After three days, Pearl went to pick up the car from Ethan's friend. It was a relatively new brown classic BMW.
The car owner was a man in his thirties. His name was Spencer. He was handsome, but he looked the same as Ethan. She could tell that Spencer would be a bad influence immediately. Pearl checked the car and drove it for a test drive. She thought the car was good. After getting off the car, she asked, "The car is great. Are you sure it's a used car? It looks like a new one." "Yep, I don't drive it often. How's the car?" Spencer was smoking as he patted the roof of the car.
"It's great. By the way, how should I pay? I'll transfer the money to you now."
"Ethan paid me already, so you can just leave with it."
After saying this, without waiting for her to reply, Spencer waved to her, "Bye."
Pearl stood by the car and she was stunned for a while. Ethan paid already?
she called Ethan on her way home.
As soon as the phone was connected, before she could speak, Ethan's cheerful voice rang out. "Did you get the car? Is it good?"
"The car is nice, but why did you pay for me? How much money? I'll transfer it to you."
"Come on, it's not expensive. Moreover, Spencer's my friend, so it's for free."
"Free? It looks like a new car, and I don't think he drove it often. I checked the odometer, and it's nearly a hundred kilometers."
"A hundred kilometers?" Ethan chuckled suddenly, "That's normal. Spencer bought the car half a year ago. It was supposed to be given to his girlfriend. As a result, they broke up and he only drove it once on Valentine's day. I think this is probably the second time he drove it. You're lucky. Spencer hated the car and wanted to throw it away, so I didn't pay him."
"That's not what you told me at the beginning."
"If I told you the truth, would you be willing to get the car?"
Pearl raised her voice. "So I should thank you?"
"Yeah, of course." Ethan replied calmly.
"Urgh, you're so annoying. Come on. Don't waste my time and tell me how much it was, and I'll pay you."
"Please, stop it. Leave that for the twins' tuition fees."
Hearing this, Pearl tightened her grip on the steering wheel immediately.
Ethan continued. "Pay me after you have money. Besides, I don't need your money anyway. Just register the kids so they can go to school. If you need my help or some money, just tell me." "Are you serious? Is your allowance enough for you to meet girls? By the way, I saved up for the children's tuition fees."
"Alright, just tell me if you need anything. I'll go back next month probably."
"Okay, tell me in advance, and I'll pick you up at the airport."
"No problem."
After hanging up, Pearl took off her Bluetooth headset. She hesitated for a while before putting it on again. Then she made a phone call to Spencer.
"Hello? It's Pearl. How much money did Ethan pay you for the car?"
The sun set, and night fell.
In Maniville, the sound of water in the hotel bathroom stopped suddenly. Ethan wrapped himself in a towel and came out of the bathroom. He picked up his mobile phone, instinctively, and frowned as he saw a new message.

He dropped the towel and wanted to call Pearl. But on second thought, he dialed another number. "Spencer, you told Pearl about the car?"
"No, I said nothing." A lazy voice came from the other end.
"How did she know that was a new car? She even pay me the full amount?"
"She did call me, but I said nothing. But, I couldn't help it when she checked the records herself. She could find out the transaction date easily, so do you think you can hide it?" Ethan held against his forehead. He screwed it up.
"Ethan, why can't you just give it to her directly? You took so much effort, but you finally failed. It's a first, right? She's quite a good girl. Why? Do you finally determine to settle down?"
"Don't be bullshit. It's not like that."
"Come on, what else could it be? I'll believe you if she's your sex partner, but there's no such thing as pure friendship. Especially for people like us."
"You don't get it. She's different." Ethan kept silent for a second before replying.
Outside the French windows was the busiest street in Maniville. The skyscrapers towered beyond everything, and there was a flow of traffic.
Spencer was right. Ethan used to flirt with women, and he didn't believe in true love any more. Sometimes, he would feel a spark when he was in a relationship, but he could walk away easily. The passion never lasted, and the spark disappeared soon. He didn't even know what was going on.
He liked Pearl before. It was the same feeling he got as he dated other women. There was always a moment where he fell in love, but he knew that feeling would vanish swiftly.
It was better for them to be friends, and friendship would last forever.
Before hanging up, Ethan asked, "Can you find someone in the education sector in Kityall City? It'll be difficult for Pearl to register the kids to school, so I hope you can take care of them."
For the next several days, Pearl traveled to different private schools with the twins. The kids grew up abroad, and they were not really eager on studies. She was afraid that they would not be able to adapt. so she visited the schools with them, and she was trying to find a school that they liked.
A few days later, unsurprisingly, the school that the two children like was the one with a yearly tuition fee of four hundred thousand dollars.
After paying the tuition fees, Pearl left the school hand in hand with the twins, and her heart was dripping blood.
Raising kids in Kityall City was really too expensive.
"Mommy, I'm hungry. I want to eat ice-cream." Bonny said.
"You should eat proper food if you're hungry, instead of ice-cream." Pearl checked the time and said, "It's lunch time, let's go to eat."
She was about to get into the car when she heard the vibration of her mobile phone in pocket.
"You two, get in first." Pearl lowered the driver's seat and asked the kids climb into the back seat.
The only problem of this car was that it's inconvenient to get on and off in the back.
The mobile phone was still vibrating, and Pearl finally picked it up without checking the caller ID. "Hello?"
"It is me."
Pearl was shocked.
There was an old voice on the other end of the phone. The man sounded a little serious and not loud. However, each word echoed in her ears and even on her heart. She replied in disbelief. "Dad?"
It was Anthony."
