Chapter 21 ✔
JAYVEE
Aiden meeting that pack went better than any of us could have guessed. They loved him and I loved being to one to surprise him with the bakery.
“Are you sure you want to change the name? Howling Sweets has been the name of the bakery for almost 80 years.” Dad said while flipping pancakes. My parents had moved out a while ago but every so often on a weekend, Dad would come over and cook us breakfast. It was nice, and it kept us from disappearing from each other.
I wasn’t worried about Aiden overhearing since he slept like a log. “Aiden has dreamt of having his own bakery since he was a kid. I just really want to surprise him with it. I mean if I rename it for him, it’ll feel more like his place, ya know?” I said doodling the new sign for the bakery.
“So, you really think he’ll like the name?” he asked placing a stack of pancakes in front of me.
“He might be a bit annoyed at first, but I know he’ll like the sentiment,” I said rubbing my hands together as I got ready to eat. Dad’s cooking is almost as good as Aiden’s baking... almost.
“Ah.” Dad said slapping my hand when the spatula, “Go get Aiden then you can eat.”
I rolled my eyes and went to get Aiden out of bed. I walked into the bedroom to see Aiden already awake, but he was curled in a ball staring at the door.
“Sugar?” I asked, he just blinked and sighed, “Baby are you okay?”
I sat on the bed next to him and put my hand on his shoulder. When I touched him, he seemed to jump out of the state he was in. “Morning,” he said but he didn’t sound tired, he sounded drained.
“Morning Sugar. Dad came and made pancakes. Let’s go eat.” I said, before he could reply I pulled the blankets off him, picked him up, and carried him to the kitchen.
“Good morning, Aiden, how did you sleep?” Dad asked as he placed a small stack of pancakes in from of him.
“Morning. I slept fine and thanks for the food.” He spoke. Aiden started eating, a couple of bites in he squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head.
He started mumbling something, but I couldn’t understand what he was saying, even with my supernatural hearing. “Sugar, you alright?” I rubbed his back soothingly.
He just nodded and continue to eat.
The same thing had been happening, Aiden would zone out for a few minutes and then get lower. Like he was a candle that flame was flickering.
It was starting to really worry me; I didn’t know what to do or how I could’ve helped him.
I was doing the dishes in the kitchen when I heard it. Aiden began talking on the phone when I thought he was taking a nap.
“Hello?” He whispered, I tried to strain my ears to hear the person on the other end of the call, but I couldn’t, there were too many walls in the way.
“It’s getting worse. Way worse. The exercises are starting to no work. I-” he was cut off.
“O-okay Ham. I promise.” then the room went silent.
There was only one question I had left. Who the fuck was Ham?
