Chapter 290

Chapter 0290
Caspian thought Candice would at least feel a bit awkward, especially after being directly told in public that she lacked money.
However, she calmly responded. “What does my financial situation have to do with you? I don’t owe anything to the Baldwin
family, do I?”
With that, she stood up. Just as she walked past Sieg, she couldn’t help but stop and say. “Sieg. since you dislike me so much
and still make an effort to look up whenever you see me, are you a
masochist?”
Due to Sieg and Caspian’s interruption, Candice’s mood wasn’t great. She was thinking of sending a message to Yana, telling
her she would leave first when she saw Yana, accompanied by Barox.
coming over with an unpleasant expression.
Yana’s tone wasn’t good either, “Candice, let’s go. This place is really inauspicious.”
Not knowing what had happened, Candice heard Barox coldly chuckle, “He brought his fiancée to
celebrate his sister’s birthday. How can that be inauspicious?”
Yana sneered, “Is his brain pinched? Bringing an unmarried fiancée and still inviting me, isn’t he afraid I’ll make a scene?”
“It’s not like he invited you.” he casually remarked.
With his indifferent comment, Yana’s anger suddenly dissipated. She said expressionlessly.”
Yeah, he didn’t invite me at all.”
Yana didn’t say much on the way back. It wasn’t until they were near the villa that she suddenly said, “Candice, do you know why
I asked you to accompany me?”
“Why?”
“Because you won’t ask anything,” Yana sighed. “With friends I know, they all know everything about how I pursued him, got
together, and broke up with Mason.”

Candice spoke softly, “If you don’t want to tell, you don’t have to.”
“There’s actually nothing to tell. He never liked me. He likes someone like Susan.” Her voice became smaller and smaller, finally
falling silent as she stared out of the window at the streetlights in a daze.
Back at the villa, Hanley and the others were still in the living room. Yana, not in high spirits, bid Candice goodbye and went
upstairs to rest.
Nadia asked, “What happened to her?”
+15 BONOS
Candice shook her head. Instead, she looked at Hanley and said, “I ran into Caspian. He was with
Sieg.”
She didn’t know the conflicts between Hanley and the Baldwin family, but encountering Caspian
seemed like something she should inform Hanley about.
As expected, Hanley raised an eyebrow, “Stay away from him.”
“Alright.” Candice didn’t ask why. After all, her impression of Caspian wasn’t favorable.
“Ms. Renault.” Nadia waved at her, “Let me tell you some good news.”
Candice looked over. “What good news?”
“There’s a training opportunity in Solaris. The boss thinks you can give it a try.”

“What training opportunity?”
“It’s the annual summit. There are two slots each year. Since we’ve all been before, we think your should go this time. Many
industry leaders will be there, and you can learn a lot.”
After hearing this, Candice didn’t seem too happy. Instead, a hint of heaviness appeared on her
face.
After a moment of hesitation, she said, “I might not be able to go. I still have some things to deal
with in Dorrington.”
Yvonne and Ivor’s matters weren’t resolved, and the evidence against Sonia was insufficient. She
couldn’t leave right now.
Hanley looked at her, “No rush. The summit is in December. We’ll talk about it then.”
Yana stayed at the villa that night, sharing a room with Candice.
She looked at Candice with a plaintive tone. “I hate girls who play the cello, especially those with
the last name Tanner.”
Candice paused and asked, “Still can’t let go of Mason?”
“Not really. After all, it’s been several years.” Yana turned over and muttered, “I just find it a bit disgusting. Whenever I see
Mason and Susan together, I feel nauseous.”
What she didn’t tell anyone was that she was actually the one who had introduced Susan to
Mason.

No, that wasn’t right.
Susan had known Mason for a long time, being his childhood sweetheart.
Yana considered Susan a good friend, but they had treated her like a fool.
She still remembered the rainy day when she brought the carefully chosen anniversary gift to Mason, only to open the door and
see them kissing.
She had found him his long–lost crush and she was worried about their relationship being
affected because of time?
So foolish.
How could their relationship be affected?
She was the only one who had been excluded from the beginning to the end.
Yana hadn’t thought about these things for a long time, but seeing Susan today brought back that
feeling of nausea.
The disgust wasn’t just directed at Mason and Susan, but also at her past self who had pursued
Mason like a loyal simp.
Yana didn’t sleep all night.

When Candice woke up the next morning, she moved quietly, afraid of waking Yana.
Yana came downstairs in the afternoon, and Candice was about to leave. She saw Yana coming down and said, “There are
leftovers from the meal Hanley ordered for you in the kitchen. He said they were all dishes you like.”
Yana curled her lips, “Is he trying to make fun of me?”
Candice didn’t say anything, and Yana asked again, “Are you going qut?”
“Yeah. I have something to do.”
At noon, Alex sent a message saying he would meet with Shawn in the afternoon.
When Candice went out, his car was already parked there.
This time, she consciously got in the car and said, “Let’s go.”
He lightly sneered, “Am I your chauffeur?”
He finished speaking and then shifted his gaze to the bag Candice was holding. His eyes lowered,
and he said in an indifferent tone, “You’re considerate.”
She looked at the box following his gaze and said after a pause, “You’re thinking too much.”
“These are things Shawn gave me before. I sorted them out, and you can return them to him later.”
When Candice used to accompany Alex to see Shawn, he would always give her something.
At that time, he really treated her as his granddaughter–in–law.
It was also that day when Alex suddenly said that Shawn had brought her a gift that she
remembered.
She said it frankly without any concealment.
Instead, Alex’s gaze on the box became somewhat deep.

The car was originally quiet, the windows blocking out the outside noise, and Candice could hear
her own light breath.
After a moment, Alex’s cold and deep voice sounded. He didn’t speak, but he let out a light laugh
in his throat, the tone indescribable.
Candice’s fingertips placed on the box lifted slightly. She heard him say, “I’ll play the bad guy, and you play the good guy?
Candice, your plan is flawless.”
Her attitude remained the same. “There are valuable items inside. I dare not accept things from
the Elysian family.”
Alex turned his gaze to her, lips curled in a light mockery. “After receiving them for so many years, now you say you dare not
accept?”
He dropped his eyelids, his gaze profound and unpredictable. Only the words he uttered were full of coldness, “Are these few
trinkets valuable to you?”
Alex supported the steering wheel with one hand, his side profile cold and dark. “Don’t take them if you don’t want them. Just
throw them away.”
