Chapter 267
Chapter 0267
“Candice, did I say too much?” Sonia’s voice sounded, interrupting Candice’s thoughts.
Candice’s jawline tightened for a moment, then returned to its original calm. “You have said everything that should be said and
what should not be said. It makes no difference whether it is more or less,” she replied flatly.
A strange look flashed across Sonia’s face, and she turned to Alex.
Alex did not look at her. Instead, he picked up Peach’s medical notes from the cabinet next to the hospital bed. He flipped
through two pages and put it back.
The cold aura on his body was a bit intimidating. Peach huddled under the quilt and looked at him with widened eyes.
After a moment, he raised his gaze leisurely and looked at Candice, without much emotion. It
seemed particularly meaningful.
Candice’s heart sank, and she looked at Alex with an expressionless face. “Does Mr. Elysian also
want to teach me how to get along with my sister?” The words “Mr. Elysian” were spoken very
clearly, and Candice felt uncomfortable now.
Sonia’s voice was soft and gentle, but her words had been full of provocation. But Candice knew
she had no evidence.
Candice remained expressionless, she was full of turbulent emotions. Her green eyes looked even calmer than usual, however.
Alex’s low and emotionless voice sounded nonchalantly. “Have I not taught you enough?”
Candice frowned.
Alex sneered softly. “But then again, have you learned anything that I taught you well? I asked you to come to Noxville to deal
with the mess left by Ivor, but you ended up looking for more trouble. Alex’s black eyes reflected Candice’s face. “Do you feel
that everyone in the world owes you just because you can’t handle your own family affairs well? Candice, you sure place yourself
on a pedestal.” His voice was unhurried and condescending.
Candice felt it was difficult to breathe.
Alex was sharp. From the short conversation between Candice and Sonia, he could guess what Candice was thinking. And he
favored Sonia, while mocking Candice openly and implicitly.
The embarrassing feeling of being slapped in the face made Candice clench her fists slightly. But
she still looked at Alex. The stubbornness in her bones made her unable to lower her head. Her eyes stayed on him for a
moment, and then moved to Sonia who was beside him.
Sonia was looking at Alex. Although it was not obvious, there was a smile in her eyes. Her voice was very soft. “Lex, don’t say
that.” Sonia glanced at Candice and smiled, as if to persuade her.” Candice, don’t mind him. That’s just how Lex talks.”
Candice’s paze turned cold. Sonia’s words clearly meant that she was at fault. There were other patients in the ward, and their
voices were persistent. Candice lowered her eyes, took a small breath, and said nothing more. There was no point in arguing too
much about some things.
Without evidence, everything she said was wrong, and everything she said was an unjust accusation to frame Sonia, Candice
clenched her fist till her knuckles turned white.
The smell of disinfectant in the ward made her chest hurt every time she breathed.
Candice looked away from Alex, fearing that the uncontrollable irritation in her eyes would be too
obvious.
Alex was too smart. She could not hide anything from him.
Candice looked at Peach’s IV drip bottle, said a few words briefly, picked up her bag and was
about to leave.
Sonia looked at her. “Candice, where are you going?”
Candice did not even look back. “The hotel.” She went straight out.
Sonia slowly raised her eyebrows and looked at Peach who was still lying on the bed. She sighed helplessly and whispered to
Alex. “Lex, wait for me here. I’m going to see Candice. She must be
angry.”
Candice calmed down after leaving the ward. She knew clearly from Sonia’s provocative look that it might not be easy to find
evidence between her and Yvonne.
However, if Ivor and Yvonne had really been instigated by Sonia, then she was also the indirect
murderer of her grandpa. It was impossible for Candice to let her off easy.
With so many thoughts in her head, Candice did not notice the person following her.
it was
not until she left the hospital gate and was passing an alley that she heard the sinister
laughter behind her.
“You are Ivor’s daughter, aren’t you?”
+15 BONOS
Candice paused and turned. The gangsters she had seen outside the company branch were not
far behind her...
The vigilance in her heart suddenly rose, and Candice took two steps back calmly. “You’ve got the wrong person.”
One of them held a mobile phone In his hand and looked at Candice, then threw the mobile phone
in front of Candice and spat. “You dare to say that the person here is not you?”
There was a photo of Candice on the phone. The background was in Silverstone Hospital. It must have been taken secretly.
The man had a sinister appearance, dark skin, and a big gold chain hanging around his neck. He looked at Candice with evil
intentions. “We’re your father’s friends. He said that his daughter is successful. You should pay some money to show your
respect to your uncles. That shouldn’t be a
problem, should it?”
The thugs looked about the same age as Ivor, but they had more of a street–smart vibe. A single
glance indicated they hung around outside all year round.
When Candice heard Ivor’s name, a look of disgust appeared on her face. “I have nothing to do with him. You’ve followed the
wrong person.”
“The wrong person? I go to that damn company every day and wait. That old sleaze said that hist son–in–law is very rich and
told us to ask for money from him, but in the end we haven’t even seen a single dime. You’re his daughter anyway, so you should
be filial and respectful.”
As the man spoke, he reached out to pull Candice. Candice’s voice suddenly rose. “Do you believe
that I will call the police?”
“Okay, you can report it.” Some of the younger thugs even whistled at her.
She was blocked by them all around. There was an alley nearby, and a shop on the opposite side of the road. Candice’s mind
was running rapidly, trying to think of a way to escape. However, before she could think much, she heard an exclamation from
behind her.
Candice looked back sharply and saw Sonia standing not far from the alley with a frightened expression. There was a black cat
lying at her feet. With everyone looking at it, the cat ran away. Sonia was left standing there with a pale face, looking at Candice
in fear.
Sonia was really panicking. She had never seen such people before. She took two steps back and
ran.
Candice frowned. She opened her mouth to speak, but a young gangster beside her ran over in a few steps, grabbed Sonia’s
arm and pulled her back.
He grinned. “Just now I saw the two of them were together. How coincidental.”
Sonia was scared and panicking. She grabbed Candice’s hand and said in a trembling voice. Candice, tell them, I’m just here on
a business trip. I don’t know anything.”
