Chapter 11
Police and ambulances arrived swiftly, and I watched as all three were rushed into the hospital by paramedics.
The lights in the operating room remained on for a day and night.

Due to prolonged oxygen deprivation, Sylvia lapsed into a vegetative state.
Only Benjamin sustained minor injuries and
was taken to the police station after his wounds were treated.

Outside the police station, Dr. Hartwell and Sylvia’s family members protested tearfully, holding up large banners.
They demanded an explanation from the police and demanded that Benjamin must die!
After investigation and evidence collection, the police arrested Benjamin for intentional homicide.
When the handcuffs clicked onto Benjamin’s wrists, he made no futile struggle. He simply stared blankly into space, his eyes filled with utter emptiness.
He was sentenced to death!
On the day of Benjamin’s execution, Sloane brought Nora to visit me at the cemetery.

Carefully arranging the things they had brought, Nora placed a bouquet of flowers in front of my tombstone.
They recounted everything that had happened during this time, emphasizing Benjamin’s fate.
“Benjamin has gone mad. Even in prison, he kept shouting that he wanted to see Nora, to see you,” Sloane whispered softly as she wiped. my tombstone, her voice choked with tears.
“He said he regretted it, but I didn’t let him see Nora… Do you think I’m heartless?”
“I can’t help but hate this man who caused your death, and so does Nora.”
As she spoke, Sloane sobbed even louder.

“If he tries to haunt you underground, don’t let your heart soften, you hear me?”
“You’ve suffered enough in this life. Don’t let yourself be aggrieved underground… Nora, I’ll take care of her, don’t worry.”
They lit the last bits of paper money.
The firelight danced, casting a glow on their tear–streaked faces.
My eyes welled up involuntarily.
When everything had burned away, Sloane took Nora’s hand and limped toward the setting sun.
I watched their intertwined shadows quietly, smiling with a sense of peace.

Those people received their due punishment, and my heart finally found closure.
Though I won’t have the chance to witness Nora’s growth, I know, with Sloane there, Nora will surely be safe and sound!
At the moment the sun set, my soul finally found its rest.
