Chapter 9
(Him)
We are still in dad's office with my parents, Leo and Logan. Sage left as he wanted to speak in private with Asher and go find Clint.
"You did great, son! I know it was not easy." Dad says slapping my shoulder but mom disagrees with him. I can see that in her eyes.
"Mom?"
She shakes her head: "You need to think with your heart not let your feelings have the best of you. I know you feel betrayed but you can't display your emotions like that. It was like you were more betrayed by Lana than Asher. Why?"
"Because it's all her fault!"
"Because... The fact she didn't trust us is hurting more than Asher keeping her secret!" My wolf says.
"I know! He knew and we didn't! Why she's trusting him and not us?!" I agree with him.
"It's easy to blame only one person. And you're not telling us everything either. Why did you follow them? How did they know Mariana was in trouble?" She adds.
"Mariana is Asher's mate but she denied him because of his friendship with Lana. And also because of his Gamma position, she doesn't want to pass after her Luna." Logan admits.
"What?! Since how long do you know?" Leo asked.
"A few weeks, I try to knock some sense to her but she's always saying she doesn't want to pass in second, after Lana of after our future Luna. And more she's pushing him away the more he's getting closer to Lana. She is still hoping he will give up everything for her this is why she doesn't have rejected him." Logan develops.
"Well, problem solved as he is not my future Gamma anymore." I comment.
"You know nothing is fixed. She will keep showing with other guys to drive him crazy." Logan replies.
"And she will finish mateless. You should have told us. Bea and I need to speak with her before it's too late."
"Uhm..." Mom says, walking around as she always does when she is deep in thought. "He might leave the pack if she keeps pushing away. Are you ready to lose him?"
"So be it." I shrug.
"You're still speaking under your anger. If he leaves Lana will follow him." She replies.
"No!" My wolf and I think at the same time.
"She can't! I mean she is under an investigation." I cover myself.
"Not going to happen. No way she will run away from us!" My wolf tells me.
"Okay...” She looks at me pensively before to add: “About keeping the fact she is a hybrid secret I think we should. Cleary she is scared of something or rather someone... If we reveal what she is to the pack she might run away and we will not be able to protect her."
"I agree with you love but it's up to you Ezra. It's your decision." Dad adds.
"Then we keep it secret for now. Thought I might have to order Mari to keep it secret." I reply.
"Can I be the one bringing her the bracelet? I don't agree with what she did but she saved my little sister and I want to thank her myself." Logan asks and I nod.
It has been 3 weeks since the incident with Mari and Lana and Asher are both sharing her room ever since. He had a huge fight with his parents and he refused to stay with them and move out with Lana. Which is annoying! When I discover they were roommates, I proposed another room to Asher but he refused as it was too far from Lana's room (which was the point). I order to change the queen bed by two single beds, no way they will share the same bed any longer.
Asher is really popular in the 15-17 years old girls. He and Lana are giving them dancing classes and girls are all over him which is annoying Clint. Their relation is worst than ever since Clint starts his Gamma's formation. He is spending a lot of time with his father and my mother and they both told me he is taking his new responsibility very seriously. Still, it's not the same that if it was Asher but he didn't let the choice.
I sight and look through the window. Speaking of him, he and Lana are playing in the garden with the younger pups. She is laughing and looks so carefree. I always thought she was asocial but here she is playing with kids, helping in kitchen, actually helping anyone anytime she can.
"You have a thing for her, don't you?" Mom asks just a few centimeters away from me, making me jump. I was so focused on Lana that I didn't hear her enter.
"Mom! You scared me! And no, I have nothing for her.
"Good, because Elliot is really fond of her. Yesterday night, he asked me if she could be his mate."
I can't stop myself before growling.
She chuckles: "I knew, I was right! I saw the way you’re looking at her!”
"How is it even possible? I have a mate somewhere waiting for me. I mean it's not her with this bracelet she can't change her smell anymore if she was going before, right? Still, my wolf and I are drawn by her. I don't know..."
"I wish I could give you answers. You're jealous of their relation, don't you?"
I sight still looking at them playing with the kids: " I know it's stupid but why does he have that I don't. Why she became friend with him and not with us? When she looks at me with fear in her eyes it's driving crazy and not knowing why make it even worst."
"I can't explain why you feel a connection with her but why she is friend with him I can. Unlike you, he never gave up. You were too young to remember but I do and it took more than a year for her to let him in. When her aunt died she started to close off again but he didn't let to. It's not something he has or something you don't, he was just more persistent. I don't know what happened in her young life for her to be like this but it's something terrible and she is still scared her past will come after her. She is so scared that she didn't even tell him. I was hoping she would but she didn't."
"How do you know she didn't?"
"I can feel it. If he knew, he would have told us. What's in her past is dark, he would have told us. If it could endanger the pack he would have. I think he didn't tell us she was a witch to prove her, he was trustworthy."
"Do you think she can be a danger for the pack."
"I don't know... I just know she is in danger. And as her Luna, I want to protect her. If only we knew what we will have to face."
"Yeah... This is why you don't want them to leave. Do you really think if Asher is leaving she will follow him?"
This thought is so painful. She can't leave us!
"I know she will. She is acting like someone who has no future. Look how she was the past 3 weeks. She is really social but always keeps a distance. She will leave to protect us."
"We can't let that happen." My wolf says.
"I know! And we will protect her." I reply.
"That we will!"
"Well, we will let the investigation opened as long as we can. And we get ready for the worst."
She nods.
