“Hey bro, how is Mari?” I ask Logan when I see him in the training room.

“Hey, bad I never see her like that. She is just inconsolable.”

“Yeah, I guess she never excepted for him to reject her. I mean she denied him but she never has rejected him. So in a way, she was still waiting to mate with him. I still can’t believe he rejected her!” I say shaking my head.

“Don’t be so surprised. I mean what was she expecting with making out with Clint.”

I nod:” I don’t know how I would react if I was seeing my mate making out with my brother.”

“Our brother is 5 so it would be really weird if mate was making out with him.” My wolf comments.

“Elliot is 5. So if it happens that either your mate is a pervert or you have a super young mate and you’re the pervert.” Logan teases me.

“Ah, ah! You’re the only one I know who will joke in this situation.” I reply.

“ I never miss an occasion like that no matter what the context is. But I know what you mean. I think I would have killed Clint if I was in Asher shoes.”

“Yeah... Now she has to reject him too.”

He shakes his head: “she refused. She wants to find a way to fix it.”

“Is she crazy?”

“I know. My parents tried to explain to her what will happen to her, but she refused to listen. She is so stubborn!”

I nod that she is. You see there is no second chance with mates. You have only one destined to you and nothing more. You can mate with someone who is not your true mate but the bond will not be as strong. Rejected your mate doesn’t mean you cut the bond but it becomes dormant on your side. If you were rejected and don't reject your mate back. You will feel a great emptiness, so great that after a few weeks it becomes physically painful. Generally, the mate who rejected but doesn't reject it mate finishes by killing itself. He will feel the worst pain you can feel if his mate marks someone else.

Us, werewolves, can mark who we want, destined mate or chosen mate. But if you can remark your true mate, if she was marked by another werewolf, you can't overpower a true mate's mark. Except if your true mate is dead, you can't be marked by someone else. Actually, it's not totally true. I was like that until the Lycans reappear. Lycans don't have destined mate and they can choose who they will be their mate. Don't ask me why because I was not a good student in History and Mythology of Lycanthrope kind.

"She could die!" I comment.

"I know but she is certain that Asher will not let her die. I really hope she is right. My parents and I are so worried about her."

"I hope too. I cross my fingers."

"Yeah, me too. Let start training, I really need to change my mind and I know this will help."

It has been a few days since Mari's rejection and the situation is not better if not even worst. Mari is crying every day and Asher is only speaking with Lana, he's even ignoring his family. I asked my father why he didn't order him to discuss with them, he explained to me that you could feel through the pack's bond that Asher was ready to leave the pack. And if the discussion was ending bad, he was afraid that it will definitely leave.

The pack bond is the bond that united all the pack's members. Every pack member can feel it but the more you have a high position in the pack more you're connected and the more you're feeling the other pack's members. When he’s focusing on one member, the Alpha can know how deep is his/her connection with the pack. This is how my father knows for Asher.

This news saddened my wolf and me. It's crazy how things could change so fast. A few months ago we were friends and he was supposed to become my Gamma and now he's already starting to disconnect himself from the pack. And now he's ready to leave, bringing Lana with him. I really need to find a way to fix our friendship because I can't let that happen.

My wolf becomes suddenly agitated. I decide to follow our instincts who are guiding me towards the kitchen. Lana and Mari are alone and Mari is screaming and insulting Lana. I’m surprised to hear Lana replying back.

“I didn’t do anything! You’re pushing him away and humiliating him for years now. And you kissed his brother. How could you when you knew it would damage their already fragile relationship!” She says.

Mari catches her by her throw her claws out. She has a small laugh, a mocking one: “Too weak to defend yourself, weirdo! You should think before speaking then.”

I growl making my presence known: “Let her go now!”

“And why if I don’t?” She says defying me.

That makes me growl but I’m not the only one who is growling now.

“Then you will discover a side of me, you will wish you have never met!” Asher says coldly before I can reply something.

Mari gasps and lets go of Lana who falls on the floor. Asher growls again and goes helping her.

“Asher, please it’s not what you think. She started it.” Mari defenses herself.

“Don’t lie to me! I heard everything. You’re such full of shit, Mariana. For once in your life, you should take your responsibilities and face the consequences of your choices!” He replies with venom.

"But-" She starts but he cuts her.

"And don't you ever dare touch her again! Ever!"

His wolf is on the verge to take control.

"Calm down Asher!" I order him.

"Don't order me, Ezra! You're not my Alpha yet." He replies.

"I just want you to calm down before I have to do something I will not like."

"You can't do anything if I'm not part of your pack!"

"NO!!!" My wolf screams in my head.

"Ash! Don't! You're not on your right mind. Let's cool down and we can speak about it." Lana begs him. He nods and they leave the kitchen without saying another word.

Thank you, Lana! I think for myself. Pfff, we avoided the worst! I turn myself toward Mari.

"What were you thinking?! You already fucked up everything! You want me to believe you want to fix things with him when the only thing I can see is you making the situation worst!" I reprimand her.

"I'm in my rights! He is my mate!" She replies stubbornly.

"Don't play dumped with me! He might be your mate but you're not his anymore and here you are, screwing, again I should add, the tiny little chance you still might have with him! You lost him because of you and only you! It's time to wake up if you want to be able to change the situation!"

She starts to cry: "But she is-"

"She is nothing and she didn't do anything! Stop blaming her when it's all your fault. They are friends Mariana, and be nice with Lana might be the only chance you have left!"

"But I don't want to pass after her!" She complains.

"Well, it's too late for that now! What you should have done is to seduce him since the beginning and with your charms push him to spend more time with you and less with her. Now, your only option is to accept their friendship!"

"Why are you against me! You're so mean! It's her she bewitched you too."

"Don't be stupid Mari. He's right. You have only two options left now: Accepting their friendship or rejecting him." Logan says in our back. He is here with his father and dad.

"This is so unfair!" She protests.

"Don't play the spoiled brat. If you want the situation to change you have to question yourself now."

She left running out of the kitchen, still crying.

"Sorry, I was harsh with her." I apologize to Logan and his father.

"Don't be. She needed to hear that." Leo replies.

"Good job son! You manage the situation perfectly." My father tells me through the mindlink and I can feel his pride.

Without Lana, I'm not sure it would have ended so well.
