Chapter 58
Chapter 58 Fired
"Thank you, young man. You truly are a miracle worker," said the boy's father appreciatively and immediately.
"Oh, that is not true at all. I'm not a miracle worker. All I did was read a couple of books and learned some tricks from a guy in the military. It's just a coincidence that I am familiar with this illness," replied Christopher humbly.
Shirley and Simon turned to each other. Ah, so it's just a coincidence. That makes sense since coincidences do happen from time to time.
"You are too humble. Here is the medical fee for the treatment. Thank you so much," said the father as he fished a few hundred out of his pocket. He had gone through so much that his voice was still trembling a little.
"It's nothing. Your kid is born weak, so pay extra attention to him. Make him bask under the sun more often and avoid taking him to cold, damp places. If you're still worried about him, I suggest taking him to a hospital to get a full examination," advised Christopher while smiling.
"Okay, we will do just that. Thank you."
After thanking Christopher endlessly, the young couple took their son and left. Simon was so angry that he could feel his face burning. Despite all the evidence, he still didn't believe that Christopher was a medical expert. At best, he is an amateur. Simon then demanded, "What was that earlier? What did you do?"
Naturally, Christopher wouldn't tell the guy that it was a special technique created by the Yaeger family. He simply replied, "Just something I learned from an old guy. I've seen similar symptoms in the past, so I knew how to treat the boy. It's nothing, so you don't need to thank me or anything."
"Hah! I knew it. You simply got lucky, and now you want me to go easy on you? Not a chance. Let me tell you something. This is all just luck. I can't believe you're so proud that you think I'd actually thank you when all you know are the simple techniques you learned from a random hellhole. Do you really think you're good? My gosh. Dr. Xander, Boleite Medical Clinic can't possibly hire someone like him," sneered Simon in distaste.
Shirley understood that Christopher was the one who got them out of the disaster earlier, but she agreed with what Simon said. Christopher might have rescued the boy, but that is just pure dumb luck. Simon, on the other hand, is an actual expert from a renowned university, and my family spent a small fortune hiring him. Most doctors, especially those from a renowned university, would work at a better hospital in the city. No one would work for a clinic like ours. Christopher might be Julianna's husband, but it is my responsibility to do what's best for the clinic. Thinking about all that got Shirley troubled, then she turned her attention to Christopher.
Christopher couldn't help sneering internally. He was only there because Julianna asked him to go. If it hadn't been for her, a mere clinic like Boleite Medical Clinic would never be able to hire him. "It's fine. I will go change out of this right now. I don't want to make things difficult for anyone, anyway," replied Christopher calmly.
"Don't worry, Christopher. I will talk to Julianna about this and tell her how wonderful you are. Also, I will help you find another clinic to work at," said Shirley. She knew that Christopher was not at fault and understood that Simon was just being petty. Christopher won't be able to learn anything if he stays here anyway, so it'd be in his interest if he were to leave. "It's fine. There's no need for that."
Christopher smiled. If he actually wanted a job, he could get one anywhere. He could even start his own clinic, but he wasn't interested in doing that.
A taunting grin crept up on Simon's lips. Hah! So what if you cured the patient? All it takes are my words to kick you out of here.
Just as Christopher was going to leave, he heard a rude man shouting, "Have Boleite Medical Clinic surrounded!"
Soon, a car stopped right outside the clinic, and dozens of men hopped out of the truck. Every single one of them looked burly and fierce, and they ran into the clinic right away to have the place surrounded. Both Shirley and Simon instantly panicked.
The leader of the intruder was a muscular man, and when he got in, he shouted, "Apprehend everyone. We're taking them back!"
