Joe nodded in agreement. “Maybe.”
After a while, both of them began to feel drowsy.
A sudden ping broke the quiet–a notification on Joe’s phone. He had forgotten to silence it.
Joe opened it and found a friend request on Instagram.
The request was from Vera. She had added him through their high school classmates.
Joe’s gaze lingered on the screen.
“Do you need to take care of something? I’m going to sleep now,” Skylar murmured sleepily, moving away from Joe’s embrace.
Joe set his phone aside and pulled Skylar back into his arms. “Let’s sleep together.”
The following day, during breakfast, Gloria called. She first asked about Skylar’s well–being and then shared how she was doing.
The two were more concerned about each other than themselves, so they chatted for a while.
Skylar asked Joe if he wanted to say a few words to Gloria as the conversation was wrapping up.
Joe glanced over at her and said, “Sure.”
But Gloria quickly declined. “We just saw each other yesterday. There’s nothing to talk about. I’m going to have some water now. You rest well,” she said, her usual dismissive tone unchanged.
Joe’s lips twitched in frustration as he felt dismissed entirely.
Skylar stifled a laugh. Only Gloria could leave Joe feeling so utterly helpless and exasperated.
While Joe was in the kitchen washing dishes, his phone buzzed on the table

with a new notification. Skylar glanced at it casually.
2/2
It was a friend request. Not giving it much thought, she took a sip of water and then grabbed a book, heading to the couch to read.
After Joe finished in the kitchen, he noticed the friend request on his phone. His eyes lingered on the screen for a few seconds.
Skylar turned around just in time to catch his expression. She couldn’t help but notice that his expression seemed to darken slightly, as if something had
shifted in his mood.
The sudden tension reminded her of her encounter with Vera in the parking lot the previous day. Her chest suddenly tightened, and she immediately looked
away.
After Joe left, Skylar found herself unable to focus on the book she was reading. Since she had a follow–up appointment at the hospital that day and planned to buy a new car afterward, she left Galaxy Villa half an hour later.
Skylar browsed casually at the car dealership. She had test–driven two cars at other dealerships earlier but didn’t like either of them.
People got used to luxury quickly, but it was hard to go back once they had experienced it.
The cars she had driven earlier today couldn’t compare to the ones Joe had.
