Chapter 716

Skylar noticed the woman before her speaking as if she were intimately acquainted with Joe, so she clarified, “This car still belongs to him. He didn’t give it to me.”

“He didn’t give it to you?” Vera’s expression softened slightly.

Seeing Vera still standing in front of the car door, Skylar once again said, ” Could you please step aside?”

Vera’s expression darkened again. “When did you and Joe get together?”

“Do I really need to tell you?” Skylar’s tone grew cold.

“My relationship with Joe…” Vera began, her voice faltering as her already pale face grew even paler. “We were high school classmates.”

Skylar suddenly recalled Molly mentioning Joe’s past love who lived abroad.

Had Skylar not appeared, Joe might have been with her. He had kept women at arm’s length all these years, waiting for this past love.

Skylar wondered if the woman before her could be that past love.

When Skylar remained silent, Vera composed herself. She didn’t want to reveal too much emotion in front of someone she considered a mere gold–digger. It would appear as if she cared too much about Joe.

“There’s been talk about you and him in our class group chat. People say you’ve been pursuing him and that your beauty could make you a star,” Vera said. “You should consider acting. I could help you sign with a film company and get you the resources to rise quickly.” She offered a tempting proposition.

Many girls dreamed of becoming influencers, but few achieved stardom. It required more than just beauty; breaking into the industry was difficult, and signing with a company was just the beginning.

Skylar raised an eyebrow, amused by Vera’s suggestion. “Thanks, but I already have a job.

“A job?” Vera frowned, her expression cold. “Is your job spending every day with Joe? Being a man’s accessory won’t last. He’ll probably tire of you and

leave you soon. As a woman, I’m advising you. Think carefully.”

Vera noticed the bandages on Skylar’s hand and the wound on her forehead as she spoke. “Did you make Joe mad? Did he hit you?”

Vera thought perhaps Skylar’s injury was caused by her being too wild in bed. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the rising jealousy in her chest.

Vera’s assumptions amused Skylar. “He doesn’t have a violent streak.”

With that, she opened the car door.

“Wait!” Vera blocked Skylar’s path.

Skylar glanced at Vera’s outstretched hand. The former’s patience was wearing

thin.

“Don’t drive this car. It was a gift from me to him, and it doesn’t sit well with me for you to be using it. You should take a cab home. I’ll arrange for someone to send this car to Galaxy Villa.” Vera’s tone remained as haughty as ever, with no hint of the disdain in her voice hidden away.

To them, Skylar was just an ordinary girl, nothing special. In the lower tiers, it was common for beauty to be reduced to a mere commodity in a man’s eyes

They viewed someone who could be measured by money as having little worth.

Skylar chuckled. “You-”

Before she could finish, a deep male voice interrupted, “Ms. Sullivan.”

Then the voice continued, “Vera?”

Skylar looked over to see Aiken. Clearly, Aiken also knew Vera.

Vera’s frown eased upon seeing Aiken, and she resumed her haughty demeanor with a smile. “What a coincidence. It’s been years. You haven’t changed a bit.”

Aiken gave a polite smile. “Indeed, it’s been a while.”

He then addressed Skylar, “My sister is at the restaurant across the street. I’m heading there now. Would you like to join us, Ms. Sullivan?”

Aiken’s attitude was markedly different. While he had been dismissive and insincere with Vera, his manner with Skylar was genuine and considerate.
