Chapter 20
DarkBeauty357
I cried out in pain as I tried to stand up. I would be healing but the bullet didn’t go all the way through, and it was laced with wolfsbane. As if the bullet wound didn’t hurt enough, now I had to deal with the acidic feeling of pain from the wolfsbane. The truck door slammed shut. I spun around to see who it was, but I ended up falling to the ground. Alec helped me stand to my feet.
“Leah! Oh mine own god!” Insuvai yelled and panicked.
“It’s fine.” I hacked up some blood. “Someone get it out,” I said gasping, but I ended up choking on my words.
“The bullet didn’t go all the way through,” Damon told Insuvai, who was too shocked to do much.
When Insuvai finally came back to realization she said, “Guys I needeth to do a big spelleth. You seeth that tree,” She pointed to a big tree in the countryside.
“I needeth you two to gather me twenty pieces of fruit,” Insuvai said. Alec ran over to the tree like his life depended on it, and Damon got dressed first then he sprinted to the tree. Insuvai helped me move to lay down beside the truck, blocking Alec and Damon from my view.
“Why do you need fruit?” I asked.
“I don’t. I just did need those folk to leaveth. If I can get the bullets out, can you healeth yourself with your own power?” Insuvai asked. I nodded my head. Insuvai’s hand was raised above the heavily bleeding bullet wound in my chest. She moved her hand in a circular motion and I felt the bullet move inside me. The pain was excruciating, and a scream erupted from my lips.
“Almost done. I’m trying not to hit anything important.” Insuvai said. Within seconds the bullet slowly raised out of my chest. I sighed in relief because most of the pain had stopped. “Healeth yourself now,” Insuvai demanded. As Insuvai worked on getting the second bullet out of my leg, I place my hand on my bloody chest. My hand heated up and I smiled as the pain slowly went away. When I was done healing my chest and Insuvai had just got the second bullet out. I healed my leg and happily stood up as the pain vanished. Insuvai walked to the truck bed and tossed me some spare clothes. I quickly got dressed.
Just at that time Damon and Alec showed up with all the fruit. “Sorry guys, I don’t needeth the fruit anymore.” Insuvai sheepishly said.
“We got these fruit for fucking nothing.” Alec released all the fruit in his arms.
“I wouldn’t be complaining Alpha Knine. Last time I checked the hunter had the pistol pointed at your fucking head, not Leah’s. She saved your arrogant life. Be grateful.” Damon called him out. They growled at each other and I rolled my eyes.
“We have more important matters guys!” I half yelled.
“Like getting the truck running.” Insuvai chimed in.
“And all the dead bodies,” I added.
“That’s a good point.” Damon broke out of the growing match, and you could tell he had alpha blood in him. However, I doubt he would win a fight against Alec. He went to his truck bed and pulled out two shovels. He tossed the second shovel at Alec, and he easily caught the shovel due to his wolf’s eyes.
“Let us see what you can do Alpha.” Damon sneered at him. They went to the roadside and put their strength to the test.
“They are so dumb,” I said and went to the truck bed.
“What are you doing?” Insuvai asked.
“I’m looking for a shovel,” I answered.
“Pft, you are funny. You are not digging.” Insuvai stated.
“Why?” I asked.
“We have two grown men werewolves, let them do that. You needeth to rest. So get your ass back it the truck.” Insuvai commanded me. Insuvai walked back to the truck. She got in the passenger and I got in the back seat.
“Oh my god, I feel dead.” I yawned.
“You almost were.” She said.
“How are we going to get the truck running?” I asked concerned. She shrugged her shoulder.
“Why did you do that? Taketh a bullet for him.” Insuvai turned back and stared at me. I gazed out the window at Alec. “I don’t know. He’s my mate. What was I suppose to do?” I said.
“He hurts you, Leah. You could have let him died.” She told me. My eyes snapped to her. “I will not let him die!” I said sternly.
“And why not?” She shot back at me.
“Because I love him!” I said defeatedly.
She narrowed her eyes at me. “You do not loveth him,” Insuvai said.
“I do.”
“It’s not possible. You barely knoweth him!” Insuvai shouted at me.
“I know!” I shouted back. “I know. Do you think I don’t know this?” I said more calmly. “You’re naive.” Insuvai huffed loudly clearly annoyed.
“I know. But the truth is, I would lay my life down for him. I know he has caused me much pain, but I refuse to believe that is the real him. Deep down he’s hurt. I can fix that.” I said to Insuvai.
Insuvai glared and crossed her arms. She said nothing and just stared out the window. I rested my head against the door and peered out the window as well. Alec had stopped digging and he was now facing me. I quickly realized he heard our conversation and I looked away with red cheeks.
When I looked back Alec and Damon were almost done. All the had to do was cover the bodies up with dirt. When they were finished, Alec and Damon headed back to the truck.
“Okay, so I’m going to call a towing company. We might have to stay at a hotel until my truck is fixed.” Damon said and reached for his phone. Damon turned to Alec. “Alpha Knine, there is a blanket under the seat. You have the most blood on you. Humans can not see that.” Damon said.
I opened the car door so Alec could hop in while we waited. I handed Alec the blanket and he placed it in his lap. Damon was a couple feet away from the truck talking on the phone. Everyone was silent and I know Insuvai definitely wasn’t speaking. I stared at the window and waited for a tow truck to get here.
Soon a rusty tow truck arrived and we were all thankful. The man got out of his truck and talked to Damon. He hooked Damon’s truck up to the back of his, and we all piled in the tow truck. The ride was short because the man was nice enough to drop us off at a local motel. The man even let us gather our suitcases before we checked in to the run down motel.
We stood before the motel, and I was hesitant about this place. Something didn’t seem right. There were no cars, or people walking about. It seemed very void and tasteless. The motel sign was halfway out, and it made a loud buzzing sound. Everything was very sketchy.
“Well, this isn’t creepy at all.” Damon studied the place as I did.
“Don’t be a pussy,” Alec growled.
“Gents shut up,” Insuvai said.
“Whatever, I’m checking us in,” Damon said.
“With what money?” Alec was amused.
Damon growled at him, but nonetheless, they went together to get checked in. Insuvai and I sat on a bench until they returned. “You don’t looketh happy,” Insuvai said.
“I’m fine.”
“You sure. You didn’t even looketh happy when we first did see each other.”
“Yeah, I’m good,” I assured her.
“You knoweth that is what happens when you go through domestic abuse. Usually, the victim becomes depressed and hurt.”
“I’m not depressed,” I told Insuvai.
“You just don’t seemeth right. I don’t know. It could just be me.” Insuvai said. I didn’t continue with the conversation. I wasn’t depressed. I just didn’t wish to be alive as much if my mate couldn’t love me. When you’re a werewolf and your mate doesn’t love you, it defeats the purpose of being alive.
“We got two rooms. Damon and Insuvai, you two will be in the second room.” Alec said. Insuvai and I stood up and walked behind the boys to go to the second floor. Alec handed me the keys to the room so I could find it.
When I got to the room I neatly put away my suitcases, while Alec hopped in the shower. No later then ten minutes, a light knock was heard at the door. I opened it and saw Damon. “There’s is pizza place not even a mile away, and they deliver. Would you want to order some?” Damon asked.
“Yeah, I just need a phone,” I said and he handed me his.
“I programmed the number under Damon is hungry.” He said and went back to his room. I shut the door and waited on the motel bed until Alec came out.
“Would you like some pizza?” I asked.
“I guess.” He said.
“Okay, another thing. Do you have money?” I asked.
“Get my wallet in my suitcase.” He said.
I order four pizzas. Two for Alec and I, and two for Damon and Insuvai. It was just the two of us in this small room, and there was only one bed with a small television. I wasn’t looking forward to sharing a bed with Alec yet, but it would have to do. On the bright side, the bed was cozy. Despite the outside appearance, the motel looked very nice on the inside. The carpet was a light grey and the walls were white. The bed had blue silk sheets that felt like heaven. I spread out on the bed and sighed to myself.
“This feels amazing,” I said. By hearing me Alec touched the comfortable blankets. He laid down on the other side of the bed. “Why did you do it?” He asked.
“Do what?”
“Save me. The hunter could have easily killed me then your problems would have been gone.” He said while resting on the bed with closed eyes.
“No, your problems are my problems too. I told you that I was helping you get your eyesight back.” I said.
“What’s in it for you?” He asked.
“Your happiness. Alec, I just want you to be happy.”
“If I have my eyesight I will be.”
“I know I sound like a broken record, but are you sure that’s all you want? You don’t even want me?” I questioned.
“All I want is my eyesight. I don’t like the idea of mates.” He said.
“So when I help you get your eyesight, their won’t be an us?” I asked.
“Correct.”
That only made my decision easier. “Okay,” I said. I turned to face away from him because the feeling of rejection hurt.
“And you’re okay with that?” He said.
“Yes,” I whispered.
“Why?”
“Because I want your happiness,” I said.
There was a knock on the door and I answered it. The pizza man was outside and I gathered the two pizza boxes in my arms. I pointed to the other door that belonged to Damon and Insuvai so he could deliver them the pizzas. I brought in the pizza and handed a slice to Alec.
Alec and I ate all the pizza because we were very hungry. I threw away the two boxes and grabbed some clothes to take a shower. I wanted to be clean before I went to sleep. I came out of the bedroom and laid on the bed. Alec was already under the covers.
“Leah?” Alec called my name.
“Yes?”
“Thank you for saving me today.” He sincerely said.
“Your welcome.”
“I never had someone do that before.” He started talking.
“Well Alec, believe it or not, you are not all bad. Just bruised.”
He scoffed, “More like broken.”
“All broken things can be fixed,” I said.
“I don’t know.” He said.
“Alec?”
“What.”
“Can you hold me tonight, please? You may not want a mate but I do.” I begged him. He complied with my wishes and scooted closer to me. I didn’t flinch when he put his heavy muscular arm around me. I was confident he wouldn’t hurt me tonight.
