Chapter 58
• While Patricia couldn't stop herself from crying, she subconsciously backed away as soon as she felt the man's finger on her face. When she did that, she accidentally sat on Adeline's face, causing the latter to scream in pain. "Ouch! Patricia, are you trying to kill me?!"
• She scolded Patricia with a high-pitched voice, not knowing where she was the moment she woke up from her sleep as she only saw Patricia moving away from her face.
• In response to her scolding, Patricia stood aside and said, "I didn't mean it." It appeared that everyone in the house had seemed to forget about Adeline's presence, including Isaac, who had just realized she was around. He then frowned and stood up for Patricia. "She didn't do that on purpose. If you're tired, you should probably go back home and sleep." The next moment, he stood up and called out to the other two ladies. "Grandma, Patricia, let's have dinner."
·
Seeing the man's reaction, Patricia was seen with confusion written on her face. Isn't he engaged with Adeline? Why is he treating her so badly? She then secretly turned her attention to Adeline and noticed her darkened look. Well, she isn't invited to join us for dinner, so is she really going to be shameless enough to join us? In the meantime, Adeline bit her lip and called out to Isaac. "Wait up, Ise. I have something to ask you."
• Isaac stopped in his tracks as Elizabeth seized Patricia's arm and walked with her to the dining area. At that moment, he was left alone with Adeline in the living room, his hands in his pocket while coldly looking at her. "Miss Aniston, you should know that we have nothing to do with each other apart from the contract that binds us. So, while you're expected to play your part well, I don't want you to interfere with my life for the rest of the time."
•
Adeline bit her lip with jealousy. "I know my place, but the outside world will know me as your fiancée, so I hope you can keep your distance from the other ladies."
• When Isaac heard that, he chuckled coldly and said, "Miss Aniston, I'll never change my mind for anybody else. Our marriage may not be genuine, but I'll not do anything about it. So, if you don't accept it, we can call off our agreement right away."
• When Adeline heard the man's words, her heart skipped a beat. It looks like he really does want to call off our engagement. No way! If that happens, I'll lose my chances of getting anywhere close to Isaac. Furthermore, everyone flatters me only because they think I'm going to be Isaac's wife. Even Grandpa isn't as cold as he used to be anymore, as he would even ask me about our engagement at times. • Knowing she mustn't call off the engagement, Adeline forced a brittle smile and said, "Ise, that's not what I meant. I'll do as you said and try not to interfere with your life as much from now on, so you can rest assured knowing that I won't be in your hair most of the time. For today, I only came here for Old Mrs. Arnold because I didn't want to reject her invitation." Adeline blamed it all on Elizabeth, grabbing her purse as she was ready to leave. "I'll make a move now. Give me a call when you need me." The lady quickly scurried out the door, worried that Isaac would call off his engagement with her if she didn' get out of his sight because she was afraid that she would end up becoming a laughingstock to the Anistons and her friends.
• Meanwhile, Isaac made his way to the dining area when he saw Adeline leaving. On the other hand, Patricia and Elizabeth were enjoying their meal in the dining area. As the old lady placed many dishes on her plate, Patricia was left surprised to see the food that was piling up on her late. Nevertheless, Isaac knew she was probably hesitating whether to finish the food because if she didn't, Elizabeth would be disappointed. Therefore, he sat beside her and took half of her food away before he began to eat them gracefully. It was then that Patricia heaved a sigh of relief while she secretly peeked at Isaac, who was eating without anything seemingly wrong. I guess it's always good to have a 'dumpster' around with me.
