Chapter 88 He paid 100 Times More for Her Sufferings
"BOSS, how would you like us to treat young madam?"
Elijah Parker asked as he drove the black Rolls Royce in the city.
"Go back to the hospital."
The woman sitting at the back seat was not yet awake, Euan George laid her head gently on his chest. Not wanting to disturb her sleep, he was holding her very gently the whole time. "Yes, sir."
Checking on the rear-view mirror from time to time, Elijah peeked at the two passengers sitting behind. Mr. George bravely saved the woman all by himself. He could guess the details of the incident but there was something that Elijah could not understand. Elijah simply could not keep down his curiosity any longer. He plucked up his courage and boldly asked, "Boss, why didn't you call me earlier to come to fetch you? I was waiting for your message the entire time." Was there an accident after that?
It was true, Euan could have called Elijah anytime. Not having cash was not a reason not to hail down a taxi. Everyone was aware that cash was no longer necessary to call a taxi, there would always be someone ready to foot Euan's bill at the destination. Moreover, what could be more convenient than simply making a call with a mobile phone?
Without giving it much consideration, Euan quickly lied to cover up. She did not recognize it was a lie. Was she also scared out of her wits?
"My phone has run out of battery."
Mr. George stated.
Elijah simply believed Euan and continued driving to the hospital.
Right at this moment, Mr. George's mobile phone vibrated. The dull and forceful buzzes came from his pocket.
An atmosphere of embarrassment infused the spacious vehicle. Neither of them spoke, and they kept silent simultaneously.
Elijah activated his "forgetful and deaf" mode.
Euan squinted at the phone display, which was flashing the name "Lydia Saunders".
That was exactly the phone call he least wanted to accept right at this moment.
Upon the decision to reject the call, he flipped the mobile phone to face down, ignoring the buzz.
Next, he promptly proceeded to switch off the phone completely.
Elijah was fully concentrated on his driving. It was as if nothing had happened, even if he had heard anything earlier on, it might have been his illusion.
That was the feeling he was trying to create for Mr. George.
In a moment, Mr. George suddenly spoke with a cold and uncaring voice, contrary to his usual warm and mellow tone. He sounded ruthless and stern, "Clear up Kaysorn Cornell and his band of henchmen within three days." Elijah's hand trembled, such that his grip on the steering wheel slipped, "Kaysorn? Boss, you're saying, he was the one who kidnapped young madam?"
Mr. George nodded, "That's right, he's the one. He must be the one who poisoned her too."
"Yes! But, Boss, do you mean you want to make him ...?"
"Make him in trouble! Also, if family Kang does not have a good successor, there's no point in keeping the family business. Let's turn their business into ours." "Yes!"
This task he ordered brought him a lot of satisfaction. He liked the idea.
In Central Hospital.
"Mr. George, she was ..."
Dr. William Hardesty had been attending to Dr. Riley Watson, but he could not observe any improvement in her condition. She was still unconscious. Upon the third listening, he could already memorize the rhythm in the stethoscope. "She fainted."
The reply was cold to the extreme.
He could tell that she fainted. He wanted to ask for the reason. Half side of her clothes practically changed colour, and half of her face was swollen. Not having an adequate explanation was completely unacceptable.
However, would he accept the real cause?
The man was Mr. Euan George.
Dr. Hardesty examined Riley personally. The medical examination included checking on the eye pupils, checking the heart rate...
Checking the heart rate ...
Dr. Hardesty put the stethoscope gently over Riley's upper chest, adjusting the position to detect the pulse. Although his long fingers were holding the chest-piece of the stethoscope, his fingertips occasionally touched her patient gown. Mr. George frowned, "It's alright now."
Dr. Hardesty, as the doctor, had not announced that it was alright. What gave Mr. George the right to say the examination was completed?
After he removed the stethoscope from his ears, Dr. Hardesty covered her with a thin blanket, "It isn't very serious, she's just over-exhausted and has not eaten anything since last night. On top of that, she even had a stomach lavage, that weakened her body and caused a physical collapse. I'll prescribe infusions of nutrients solution and glucose for her."
Throughout the whole time, Euan showed an unhappy expression on his face.
When Dr. Hardesty was examining her, even though his actions seemed to be proper and professional, watching the examination caused Euan to feel uncomfortable.
Riley was a doctor. A doctor had both male and female patients. So, when she checked on her male patients, did she also touch them like this?
Alright, today a stethoscope was used. Did it ever happen that she had to listen with her ears, or feel with her bare hands?
Shit!
He felt vexed to the extreme.
After Riley received her infusions, Euan left the hospital to settle the business with family Cornell.
It was already night when Riley regained her consciousness.
"Oh, you're awake."
Facing her right now was William's warm and gentle expression. Due to his fatigue, his soft, mellow voice sounded as deep as the double-bass instrument. "Yes."
Feeling completely weak, she realized she could not even prop herself up in bed to sit.
William reached out to stop her, his warm laugh was like a soothing balm for her heart, which was feeling hurt and confused. "You're still very weak and need a proper rest. To prevent you from escaping again, I am staying to watch you. Also, you're my number one patient now. The patient has to obey the doctor's orders absolutely."
She laughed lightly, hiding her exhaustion. She became tame when she was sick.
"Thank you."
He knitted his eyebrows and protested, "I really don't want to hear those words again."
In YJ Villa.
By the time Lydia got home, it was already past eight o'clock. However, Euan and Riley were both not at home.
Lydia kicked off her stilettos, began to order her servants arrogantly, "Lilah, help me put up my things. Sophia, prepare a cup of low-sugared coffee."
Lilah carefully picked up the Christian Dior stilettos and put them in the second level.
Meanwhile, Sophia approached to serve Lydia the coffee. Lydia lifted the cup and took a sip.
"Pooh! What kind of coffee is this? It is not drinkable. I want low-sugared, yet you brewed it so sweet, do you want me to get sick? Brew it again!"
Sophia nodded cowardly, "Yes, Ms. Saunders."
"What did you call me?"
Lydia grabbed a bag, marched towards Sophia, and hit her hard on the head, "What did you call me?"
"I ..." Sophia pitifully hid her suffering, not daring to cry. She bit her lips and corrected herself, "Young... young madam."
Lydia sat in the middle of the sofa, spreading her arms open, sucked her red lips, "Bear in mind, that's how you call me. Riley Watson will get out of George's family sooner or later. Just watch out, otherwise, when I'm the mistress of the family, you'll suffer." Lilah and Sophia lowered their head, "Yes."
Lydia was getting impatient that Euan was not home yet. She dialled his phone number again and was appalled to see that he had completely switched off his telephone.
What happened to him? Did she have to call him on his home number before he would finally respond to her?"
At this thought, Lydia dialled Anika Gill's number...
"Have you heard it too? Last night, Dr. Watson was sent to the emergency department, and Dr. Hardesty attended to her personally. God knows what happened."
"Of course I heard it. What's more, I heard from friends at the emergency department, the vice dean himself carried her into the ICU. He only had one shoe on. I wonder whether that's true."
"Oh, come on, the vice dean was just wearing one shoe? I don't believe it. But the vice dean genuinely cares about Dr. Watson. Sigh, you don't know how many other female doctors' hearts he broke."
Dr. Jeanne Pouchain was just walking past the staff duty station, she overheard the entire conversation between the doctors and nurses. She knew that Riley took leave, but was unaware of this incident. This hospital was too large. Every single specialized ward was overwhelmed with work. Who was going to pay attention to the emergencies if everyone were to be engaged in gossips? "Don't you have anything to do?"
Dr. Pouchain's icy voice frightened the few gossiping nurses at the duty station. They quickly sprang away from the desk.
She retrieved her mobile phone from her pocket and called William.
In the ward, when William saw the flashing number, his look darkened, "Deputy Directress Pouchain."
He took the call right in the presence of Riley, not trying to hide anything.
"Vice Dean, where are you? I have an invoice here for therapy equipment, it requires your signature." Dr. Pouchain pointed and pressed her fingertip hardly on the document on the table. "I'll sign tomorrow, you get off work first."
Just as he was about to hang up the call, she quickly stopped him, "This has to be signed tonight. Where are you, I'll come over. Once you sign it, I can get off work."
William glanced at the remaining liquid in the infusion bag, "Alright, I'll wait for you in the hall at level one."
Riley listened to the phone conversation quietly.
"I shall return shortly. Don't you dare leave there."
In contrary to the phone conversation, within a second, he completely softened his expression and tone, he became soft, gentle, and warm.
"Vice Dean, go and do your work, I'm fine."
She was still half-rejecting him. However, she could not harden her stance now.
William signed the document, "Alright, it's getting late. Deputy Directress Pouchain, you may go home now."
Holding the document close to her chest, "Why are you not going home at this time, Vice Dean?"
William kept his pen in the pocket under the collar, "I still have a patient."
"Vice Dean, may I have a conversation with you?" Jeanne walked towards him, smiling gently and modestly.
However, William stuck his hands into the pockets of his white coat. This simple gesture signalled his desire to remain distant.
"..."
She managed to say just one word as his mobile phone rang, and he had to answer the call.
"My apologies, I have an urgent matter. Let's talk another day."
He swiped the phone to take the call. As he spoke, he quickened his footsteps with urgency.
Jeanne looked up at the glittering lights hanging over the hall. The hospital reception hall was usually quiet at night, there was just a queue lined up outside the emergency department.
She slowed down her footsteps and followed in the direction that William took.
"So fast?"
She was surprised to see him return after a short while.
"It was just a small matter. Your stomach has been empty for over eight hours. Eat something light for the night. What would you like to eat?"
He treated her like a boyfriend, rather than a doctor.
"I'm not hungry, I'm full of water." She had been infused with plenty of fluids, not only was she full of water, but she was, in fact, bloated.
"Full of water is not considered full, say, what would you like? If you want to escape from me and get out of here, you should better eat something proper. Otherwise, I will still be here tomorrow. You decide." Decide. Why did everybody want her to decide? No matter how she decided, she could not escape from making a choice.
"I think ... I'll drink a little red date lotus porridge."
The best would be a gooey, glutinous, and soft porridge. She was famished.
"And what else? A porridge, good, that's a lot of fluids."
She pondered a moment, "A red bean lava bao, is that okay?"
He laughed, "Yes!"
Standing outside the door, Jeanne watched the scene through the glass pane above the door. She saw how the couple having their warm and cheerful conversation with each other. She clenched her fists tightly.
Not only did William return with her food orders, but he also specially brought back chocolates to nourish her body. And likewise, of course, he bought dinner for himself too.
She had not eaten. Neither had he.
Other than that, he bought her a bouquet.
A bouquet consisting of early summer-blooming gardenia.
At the entrance of the bouquet of gardenia, the ward was filled with the light fragrance of the blooms. Light and elegant, the fragrance was very refreshing.
The complementary combination of ivory and pale-yellow blooms exuded a certain girlishness.
"How did you know that I like gardenia?"
Putting the bouquet into a vase, William replied, "Oh, so it's true."
"Huh?"
"I was not sure initially, was only guessing from the perfume you are wearing, which is gardenia."
She was speechless.
"Please eat, they are your choices. You have to finish the food."
Again, the tone he used was as if he was coaxing a child, so warm and loving, so comfortable that she could not bear to turn him down.
She scooped a spoonful and put it to her mouth.
"Ouch..."
Her tongue burned!
Damn it, she forgot about the injury on her tongue!
"What happened? Did you burn your lips?" listening to his gentle tone, it felt like a warm wind in spring.
"No, it's the tongue..." She did not complete her sentence.
"Let me check, stick out your tongue."
A tall figure of a man leaned over the bed, examining her tongue. From one angle, half her body was blocked in view. From afar, it appeared as if he was kissing her.
Mr. George was about to open the door, as he rested his hand on the door handle. He felt thunderstruck when he saw the tall figure.
In an instant, he swung the door open forcefully and strode towards them.
""Let her go!"000☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
